I am very similar to this, just never really got into it even though friends of mine did. The closest I ever got was Run DMC and the Beastie Boys.
The soundtrack to the under rated cult classic Judgement Night back in the early 90s was an interesting sound track with rap/hard rock artists collaborating.

Yeah I actually like the rap/ rock cross overs, I'm a huge Rage Against the Machine fan so it fits in my wheelhouse quite nicely!
