Hit on Groat

Deserved a penalty and on report, but Groat contributed with his Martin Lang style run.

Never worth a send off or sinbin.

The worst thing about this hit was that only Farah tried to get Te'o back.

Why didn't anyone else try and hit him??

Prob coz if we got revenge the Ref would find the balls to Bin or send 1 of us off and we would be in a worse state.

So when has running it hard been a reason for an illegal hit?

Nice way to turn it around, kudos.

But teo went for a shoulder charge, it wasn't a wild swing trying to take his head off. The way Groat ran meant a normal shoulder charge copped him flush on the jaw.

Its called "mitigating circumstances".

I thought it was a good tackle…..am I the only one? As someone mentioned, shoulder charges have yet to be outlawed. Also, have we forgotten Simon Dwyers great hit on Waerea-Hargreaves?

Maybe, maybe not. I am still saying we should have been allowed to put another player on the bench. No matter what he was trying to do, he hit a guy in the head.

The AFL (trust me I really hate that sport) have an emergency interchange player to cover for injuries and the player he replaces can not go back onto the field. For mine such a system would make sense for rugby league.

Personally I think Teo will be charged and will do some time.

lol, Thanks

that's where Teo should make a tackle and not Shoulder charge. This is where the rule should say " shoulder charge to the head is auto 10 minutes and if the player is KO'd then sent off".

Great point.

We can't all cheer Dwyers hit and then cry when we are on the receiving end.

I can't stand Teo and that was a dog hit. He also put an elbow into Robbie's face and got off scot free.

I expect he'll get some time on the sideline for that.

Only thing is the rules were changed after Dwyers hit. It was a Legal shot in 2010\. Still, if it was done now we would have no arguments to it being a bad hit.

I'm with you 18th Man. Not worth anything but applause. As the above posts mention, if the NRL are serious then the shoulder charge needs to be outlawed.

Interesting. I don't remember a rule change, any links to it?

Yeh, at the game me too think the same.
But having a looksee on IQed replay he does get him high.
Frank Pritchard case has set a precedent, little blokes shouldnt run at big blokes unless you have some decent footwork….I love the big hits, but some like tonites imo sail close to the wind, you take a chance and i think Teo will be charged.

I though the penalty was sufficient , Teo s shoulder bounced off the ball and hit him in the chin , the intent was to make a legal tackle .

I may be going over the top be I think a shoulder charge gone wrong like tonight, should see the offending player marched for the game with a predetermined period on the sidelines (say 2 - 3 weeks).

That way it's either coached out of the players, or taught with a safe technique… Not a player using their body as a missile at the opposing player.

Why do u think rugby union banned shoulder charges - most of yhem go wrong - they should be banned in league as well.

Did a google search and can't find anything. I do remember a change and only a couple of weeks ago Phil Gould said in a call of a game that Pritchards hit was legal 2 years ago. Unfortunately I can't back the rule change with evidence.

Don't see how it was Groat's fault. He ran about 2 metres before Teo launched himself. Intent isn't the issue (you'd hope) but the bottom line is Teo made direct contact with Groat's head with his shoulder. He wasn't wrong-footed, it didn't slip up, he hit him flush on the jaw. Personally it was a send off for mine. If that was his wrist it would have been a send off, why should the shoulder be different?

Reality is it was put on report, we lost a player due to concussion and there was no real consequence for the Broncos (I do not think a free interchange is a fair swap). I am not going to argue the legality of the particular tackle tonight, but if a ref considers it illegal then the team that suffers as a result should not be the concussed player's team
