Holden Debacle

Holdens fix for the timing chain issue was to raise the tolerance so the engine light wouldn't come on until the warranty was out.

Yep a couple of 100 bucks to delay the inevitable

I'm amazed with all the rev heads and bogans on the Forum nothing has been mentioned

Its sad what is happening , but Holden can only blame themselves

The only thing you would within a 1000 miles of is their utes ....Ok Ford 1st efforts weren't much better ....but as they go they improve markedly

As for Supercars it will never be the seem no matter what they come up with ...Red and Blue is dead

Thoughts

Summernats will never be the same!

Putting the Ford v Holden rivalry aside it is sad to see it come to an end. Our politicians should hang their heads in shame, they killed off manufacturing in Australia.

If you get a chance watch the Shannon's End of Era series hosted by Shane Jacobson and if that doesn't leave you pondering where it all went wrong or doesn't bring a nostalgic tear to your eye then i guess you were never a car person or didn't grow up in Australia between the 60's through to 90's.

Agenda 21.

I don’t know much about Agenda 21.

I just know that cars, like the tigers are a big part of my history and it’s a shame that in our country we don’t make cars anymore.

Ve’s had a problem with the timing chain and the fix is about 2k. But most cars have had problems. Some of the worst cars from a reliability perspective have a supercar badge on them and cost $100000.

VE had 9 recalls in 7 years
( just sayin)

Ok true the ve might not have been the crowning glory of Australian motoring history but my point is still valid.

Holden never evolved ...
The Falcon ( Aussie built) turbo 6 was a far superior product compared to the SS commodore...
Falcon wagon became the Territory
Falcon Ute became the Ranger
And the a Falcon sedan became the Mustang ..
Holden brings in a crap box Daewoo and calls it a Captiva ...
Brings in a front wheel drive Opel and says “ here ya go “ ... here’s the new commodore .
As for manufacturing in OZ it costs too much cause we all earn a motza .

Ford did evolve better and and made some great cars. The Barra motor is a cracker. But there is no falcon anymore neither. None of the fords we drive are made in Australia.

Yes it did cost a lot to make a car in Australia and I’m no economist but surely something could have been done to save manufacturing in Australia?

Yeah but Ford gave as the AU!

I'll get shouted down here for generalising but....

Wouldn't buy a Holden (had an FJ Ute in the 60's), just don't like them so not sorry they are going to disappear.

However, Holden drivers generally (in my experience) are just absolute "Ratbags," especially Commodore drivers.... drive too fast for their ability, rude, arrogant and cause accidents, but usually are not in them, unless they kill themselves.

The trouble is - without Holdens ... what will they drive now? and it will take a while to know who they are again, so I can try and avoid them.

I’m a Holden man and I agree with you some of them are just nuts.

True story, I have had two major accidents both in fords and both as a passenger once in an XF falcon and the other in a festiva,

Holden died the day they stopped production in Australia and it was only a matter of time before the brand was dropped.

XR8 wasn’t bad !

The only AU I have a scale model of. It was a stunner when they trotted out for the first time with Lowndes As the driver. The VE’s had a great race track record as well.

I’ve been Jap all the way ...Ford any day over Holden though ..

Godzilla!!!

The s15 are nice cars and they hold there value as well ...I have a R34

Sweet, Now they are a weapon the GTR V SPEC are a special vehicle, they hold there value.

Shame they never got to race over here ..?

Yeah they would have cleaned up.

Have been looking for a drift car as the xr8 is fun but a boat. S15 will be endgame but because it will most likely see some walls have been looking at a manual 350z or the manual v35 skyline which is basically a 350z with brembos and cheaper. Neither really interest me in looks but a good platform to build some skills in.

I do like a 2 tone s13 I would feel pretty bad banging it up.
