Home Game Allocation

No, not 100% certain….It was the case when we first started using big stadiums, I'd hope it is still the case - the **club being paid to play there,** and the stadium selecting the games in return.
If not then why are we doing it? All bar the saints game last year couldve been played at LO or CS with the crowds they got

I think WT get paid around $70k to play home games at SFS. Pretty sure WT decide on the matches and thats why they are often top 8 clashes like dragons, broncos and manly. Out of city teams like warriors and cowboys play at leichhardt or ctown as they the smaller venues will fill. I dont think sfs/scg decide on who plays at wt games. Unless things change, we will unlikely see regular top 8 clashes at ctown or leichhardt. Remember in 2002 all home games were split 6/6 before we played at anz/sfs. The IC should be able to ease the heavy hand that tv networks have keeping in mind they virtually fund the game.

Since this post I have drop 20 rep … Guess all the Balmain biased people were showing their true colours.

End of the day, Wests side of the draw gets screwed.

You have only recieved 1 negative rep… Maybe it was from a Wests Tigers biased person moving forward with the future?!

Can't really complain about the games allocated to CSS for 2012

Raiders: as I said in another post, they are an obvious choice for CSS. A nice drive up the freeway on a Sunday afternoon, unfortunately the idiots put it on a Monday night so no fans will come up from Canberra. With Campese back and fully fit Dugan, should be a good game.

Panthers : another obvious choice as far as location goes, should pack the stadium out if both teams are firing.

Parramatta : Should be a good game. With all Parras new buys you would have to expect them to be a vastly improved side.

Cowboys : Well they made the top eight, so no complaints there.

Really can't see what all the fuss is about.
Just get out to all the games and support the boys !

I'd hardly call the person who neg-repped you "Balmain biased". I didn't neg rep you but as I suggested back on page 1 of this thread, the suggestion that the game selection is unfair and the Magpies are getting screwed is a bit of stretch.

Maybe seeing the Raiders play here is an 'obvious choice' BUT it seems they play there every season. I became a member to watch my Tigers play, but I would also like to see some other opposition live at the ground. If i lived closer to Sydney I would go to all the home matches ….

As for my neg rep, how do i got from +3 to -17 in 1 downvote ?

So your complaint is the quality of the games or the variety of opponent?

In answer to your other question, the person who neg repped you has a 20 point rep point power (i.e. his number of posts etc means his rep point votes are worth 20 points be it positive or negative)

My points on this topic are not based on a balmain v magpies debate. Its based on WT (yes WT) embracing south west sydney with its large football following population and strong junior base. Perhaps something better then 4 games a year which are often not top tier clashes nor great timeslots

As its pointed out, the timeslots are out of the hands of the WT.
Quality? There's 2 big derby games scheduled. Parramatta is always a big game.
Quantity? Different argument than this thread.

Clashes vary each year but a list games wont happen when we play at sfs. TV does have a influence but not every game. Quantity doesnt mean nrl games it could mean fan days, training days rather then everything in concord. Trial against eels is a positive example.

You're certainly correct on fan days and training etc. As for game times, as I understand it, the club can make its feelings known but the timing of games is almost entirely a result of the decisions made by Foxtel and Nine. If Nine wants us on Friday night, that's what will happen

It was rumoured 6 -7 years ago we were getting 100k to play at Telstra…..now stadiums dont pay that kinda dosh without having some sort of say in thing, pretty sure they get to choose the opponents which are always those teams that pull the crowds.
It would be goos to know exactly what the go is in this regard but the club has never publicly announced the deals iirc.

TV does have a influence but not every game.

Every game is determined by the broadcasters.

Wrong again mate….on both counts

I don't care who we play at CSS. I'm just grateful to get footy so close to home. I'd like more games there obviously but know that the economic realities probably prevent that from happening. Hopefully one day we can get to a 6-6 split with CSS and LO.

Independant commision may change tv games. WT have the option of swapping leichhardt/sfs/ctown games pending certain notice to stakeholders.

If you are paying a billion dollars for the TV rights ,you will be the one determiing who plays who where and when.

Yeah , Monday night footy is part of the reason I didn't bother with a membership before. It is a real struggle doing Monday night footy live, driving home and getting up for work on the Tuesday morning. Plus I take my son and it's a school night !
