Home Ground situation needs to change

@GNR4LIFE Because in reality it comes down to a choice between Bankwest and ANZ, ANZ is far too big for our purposes. We shouldn't be playing in a stadium that at some games will be around 1/8th full, that is rubbish and the atmosphere will be terrible. Might as well sit at home and watch it by yourself because that will be basically what you are doing at the ground. The upper tiers are not moving in the refurb so its still going to be cavernous and will not hold any sound.

If they were rebuilding properly I would be all for using ANZ, but they are not doing that. It will still have massive issues!

If this is really about longevity/success or both instead of personal preference -which all our arguements are influenced by to some extent- two successful strong Sydney clubs with possibly the two biggest club memberships have managed to share ANZ with all its limitations, as a neutral ground, with neither represented there more than the other, and continue to do so successfully, while also playing a couple of games each year at other grounds suburban and or regional.
Dont know of any evidence where a
club has attempted, been successful and or survived by moving into Cumberland/ Parramatta Stadium/ Bankwest Staduim and has competed against Parramatta to share it on equal terms.

Really it was a mistake for us to not push for WSS to be built in Liverpool or Blacktown, but we missed that opportunity so we now have to make compromises. That has been the problem with our club for a long time, not planning for the future and making decisions to benefit the club 10 years down the road. I will accept either ANZ or Bankwest but strongly believe that Bankwest is more in line with our purposes.

So, long-term, I think a purpose-built WT stadium and Centre of Excellence should be built at Liverpool. There is a massive area available now with Hillier Oval and the Whitlam Centre precinct and, by 2025, greater-Liverpool will be the home of Badgerys Creek Airport and extensive transport links.
Like the entire south-west corridor, Liverpool is expanding fast and is becoming a genuine third city of Sydney. It’s the hub (moreso than Campbelltown) of the boom area of Sydney. Someone will catch onto it sooner or later but with GWS Giants seemingly based further west and the A-League team centred at Campbelltown, the time is right for the NRL and WT to commit to Liverpool as the long-term home of Wests Tigers.

The problem is there is 0% chance of that happening, so we need to actually look at realistic options. Liverpool would have been a great option but we didn't fight or it when the money was available.

So we are now left with 3 less than ideal options.

1. Bankwest that many people believe is owned by Parramatta.

2. ANZ which many people believe does not suit the purposes of club Rugby League

3. LO/CSS split when both grounds are substandard.

Again we are left hamstrung by the lack of forward thinking by our clubs administration!

@mike with the bottom tier moved in and the top tier staying where it is, that is less likely. I can tell you that with 10000 people if sound like you are in a cave.

No it won’t and doesn’t

@mike When I am sitting in a row with me being the only person in the row in our members section it definitely sounds quiet!

Then make some noise, or go sit with others.

@Tiger-Tragic sorry TT but the best ground is at Wollongong. The grass is outstanding and the views equally so to the east over south brach and back west to the escarpment. Besides, everyone is aware the Illawarra produces the best footballers.

@mike Or play at a stadium that is an appropriate size?

Stadium Australia is the appropriate size for the Wests Tigers. If you go for a small stadium then that’s the maximum you’ll ever have. I believe we need the largest stadium possible. We need to grow the crowds.

Maybe we can make that argument when we average more than 20% of what the ground holds!

How many people care about the game day experience, facilities etc.

I only go to watch the game don't care about facilities.

As long as we win I'm happy.

G'day @helmesy : An absolutely brilliant, thinking man's post. You have put forward some positive suggestions re Our Wests Tigers moving forward and securing Our future. Well bloody done Mate, from an ancient 'dinosaur' ex-pupil of Ashfield Boys High when it was commonly called Ashie Tech to a much younger ex-pupil of the said school. I'm so old I was at the school at the same time as Bruce Beer and John Armstrong. Cheers Mate 😛oint_up: :relaxed:

I can see where your coming from kafta,I go to Campbo when I can because I live in the Southern Highlands, its about 50 min drive to CSS ...I like that the facilities to get food and beers is great and the Wests Leagues next door is a bonus for dinner later...Its always a good day out...

G'day @cochise : re your "a bit of animosity between teams and fans is a good thing" C'mon mate, no it's not. A bit of friendly banter between fans IS a good thing. With animosity:white_frowning_face: , you end up like the idiot fans:skull_and_crossbones: in English Soccer. Aint there enough animosity in the world already :relaxed:

I am not talking about violence mate! but fans wanting to see certain teams do poorly and having a good natured dislike for the opposition is what this game was built on. Long may it continue!

@cochise We keep losing the players who attract crowds due to their excitement factor. JAC, Koro, Papenhuyzen all gone and the media suggesting Parker. Is our new recruitment team visiting retirement developments and over 55 villas to unearth two speedy wing demons to sit outside Parker and Masters.

Many do and they are voting with their feet. Agree though that the winning feeling covers up a multitude of faults.
