Hunt done for Cocaine dealing...Titans Charged

Is it just me , or does anyone else think it is very strange that the AFL has gone strangely quiet about all of this?
After all, as far as I can see , a lot of the alleged activity is around the time that Hunt was an AFL player , and one of their highest paid players.
This concerns the recent face of Aussie Rules in SEQld. And yet the Aerial Ping Pong Chappies have all taken invisible pills .
I've never seen them so quiet.. I wonder why??
Maybe one of those " three strikes" of theirs may have been made by a familiar face???

I read the 4yr ban is an ASADA ban and is worlwide. Theyre facing some real consequenses even if its just possesion.

But the ASADA ban would only include finding it in your system wouldn't it ??

No, ASADA apparently can suspend you for trafficking/possesion.

As Sandor Earl would confirm.

They have a lot of court cases pending with the Esendon ASADA dramas , they wouldn't dare open their mouths at this stage

Doesn't it seem somewhat likley that players will get off with a very lenient suspension if found guilty?

The Sharks players got 4 game bans for taking PERFORMANCE ENHANCING drugs. Players taking or supplying rec drugs is less severe than that so why would they get a much tougher sentence from ASADA?

In my mind the only thing which separates the two is intent. The players intentionally took/dealt coke. The Sharks players were following team instructions rather than individual impulses, but were still guilty nonetheless.

The Suns. It is slowly dawning: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/cocaine-abuse-at-gold-coast-suns-afl-club-identified-in-intelligence-reports/story-fni0fiyv-1227239138779

I think they must have some pretty conclusive evidence if the reactions of the Reds and the Titans is anything to go by

Just my opinion though

The sharks penalty is the darkest moment in Australian sport…..

The penalties were beyond ridiculous.

Can you imagine if the Chinese swim team had the same evidence, same argument and got the same penalty. We'd be up in arms.

Shane Flannagan should have got life. He was in charge, he risked young mans careers and lives (this may be hyperbolic but Isaac Gordon health adds weight to the argument). His penalty is woefully inadequate.

These guys will probably be up for 2 years, as they should IMO.

The question is , should the accused Titans players be allowed to play after their first court appearance ? Before they've had a chance to defend themselves ?

More than a touch of irony that the NRL are using Robbie Williams' song 'Let me entertain you' as their theme song for the 2015 season….the bloke was a notorious cokehead. Crap song by the way too, they never learn.

Cocaine use by players at the Gold Coast Suns was reportedly identified by police two years ago. While the Suns have attempted to distance themselves from the controversy surrounding former player Karmichael Hunt and neighbouring NRL club the Gold Coast Titans, a fresh report suggests the AFL club came to the attention of the Australian Crime Commission in 2012\. The Courier Mail says specific players were not named in the 2013 report but it stated that some footballers were using cocaine at their homes as long ago as 2012.

The suspected drug use is said to have occurred outside of the AFL competition season, the report states, but club officials were not informed. A source close to the investigation told the newspaper that the suspected drug use was not followed up at the time because the Suns players were only "bit players" in a larger drug syndicate with key members in Sydney. The allegations initially surfaced in February 2013 following an extensive Australian Crime Commission investigation Project Aperio into use of drugs and doping in sport.
The release of the report was announced as the "blackest day in Australian sport" by the former head of the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority. The comment was derided as "hysterical" at the time.

The report stated: "Information obtained by the ACC suggests that illicit drug use by professional athletes remains an ongoing issue, with official statistics for illicit drug use within professional sports likely to significantly understate the extent of actual use." But the ACC would not elaborate on specific individuals, stating: "The ACC has never publicly commented on the teams or individuals involved in Project Aperio."

The revelation that a number of Suns players allegedly used cocaine comes as their former teammate Karmichael Hunt readies to front court on four charges of supplying cocaine between June and December last year. Hunt is among eight others identified by a Crime and Corruption Commission investigation into cocaine supply in southeast Queensland. A number of those arrested and charged are elite sports players.

The CCC says more athletes could be charged within coming weeks.

I think the major difference is that this is a police investigation and not an ASADA investigation. If found gullty of supply, ASADA's only involvement will be handing hand down the penalty, 4 years.
There will be no botched investigation by them this time.

These are the same players that go to our schools, to talk to our kids about the importance of keeping our bodies and minds active, fit and healty. Eg. Good nutrition, no drugs etc. the hypocrisy of it all. That's the sad thing. The pretence of it all.

While I agree with the sentiment TM …I don't think you can paint all the players with the same brush.....Our Boys have been out an about in recent weeks and have been well received in all Schools yet it hardly rates a mention...the 98% forgotten the 2% makes the headlines....

I was refering to the players that have been charged. The few bad apples. They get a lot more attention. All the ( negative) headlines. The majority of players do the right thing and live by what they preach, but like you said it hardly rates a mention. Sad isn't it?

This has been a notorious weekend for all clubs , us included , for players getting out of control

Wonder how many cases of players behaving badly we will have by the end of the weekend ??

Parker has come out and publicly denied any Bronco involvement…It's not their go...
