Folkes is a preofessionally qualified and experienced as a Strength and Conditioning coach in the NRL and for the West Indies cricket team. Two sports that see players get a two vastly different types of injuries.
That alone shows that insofar as Strength and Conditioning, and branching from that, rehabilitation, he is very highly skilled.
And that is one area where we are abysmal. He knows what facilities, protocols, practices, staff etc we require in this area.
He is also a very good defensive coach, and his one strength as a head coach was providing strong yet simple and effective structures in attack and defence. We saw glimpses of his input in our teams defences in 2009.
I would give him 2-3 years and tell him he is to set up the club in every aspect the way it needs to be. When that contract ends, make him the coaching director and bring in any old coach you want.
By then, our kids have finished growing and are still 3 years shy of their peak (which is arguably around 24-25 years old)
