I don't get the Folkes hype

Folkes is a preofessionally qualified and experienced as a Strength and Conditioning coach in the NRL and for the West Indies cricket team. Two sports that see players get a two vastly different types of injuries.

That alone shows that insofar as Strength and Conditioning, and branching from that, rehabilitation, he is very highly skilled.

And that is one area where we are abysmal. He knows what facilities, protocols, practices, staff etc we require in this area.

He is also a very good defensive coach, and his one strength as a head coach was providing strong yet simple and effective structures in attack and defence. We saw glimpses of his input in our teams defences in 2009.

I would give him 2-3 years and tell him he is to set up the club in every aspect the way it needs to be. When that contract ends, make him the coaching director and bring in any old coach you want.

By then, our kids have finished growing and are still 3 years shy of their peak (which is arguably around 24-25 years old)

I really like the sound of that.
Have you put in your résumé for the GM position madunit?

Its just like the austin hype and the farah and Mayer hatred.. flavour of the month based on no fact.

I doubt that this goes down well but its 100% accurate apart from Austin. I think Austin goes pretty good.

Well I think Folkes would do ok. He has been in and around the NRL since his own stint at the bulldogs.

He was S&C with us but also had a hand in our defensive structures. Much the same at St Grorge I believe. He would have had his ear to the ground with both head coaches.

It's not as if he has been living in a cave all this time. But I have previously stated I will support anyone but Parish. I won't give it up if Parish gets the job but I would be surprised if we did any better with him.

Steve Folkes would be good for us as a head coach
When he was with us as a SC coach i was a bit disappointed as his real flair is in coaching a footy team .
I'd personally give him the nodd over Griffin but then again who cares about my opinion…

I do.
Mainly because you put forward an honest opinion without belittling people.

Like many others I think Folkes has been out of the game for too long.

Would be happy for him to return in an S&C role though.

Just wondering who you think should be coach Hybrid ??

But there is no reason why Folkes couldn't be head coach and still be defensive coach

Bellamy did that for many years

Worked OK for him

Iam with Eddie,we do not need a coach from past, we need a coach who up to date with what is happening now

So that would be:- wrestling, grapple tackle, chicken wing, crusher, five tackles- kick etc etc???

What do you mean by too long ?

He was an NRL assistant until the ned of 2013 - thats less then a year

He has spent 2014 as a Video Referee and coaching the Australian women's team this year

I would but Mayer doesn't seem to like me and my opinions

And he will like me even less if he appoints Payten or Parish

Expecting the restraining order in the mail

@Happy,who cares about the restraining orders, keep telling it like it is,the truth will finally come out if we continue to hound the great CEO and as for his crap that dribbles out of his mouth, well that's what it is…..I would support him more if he proved to be a strong CEO but he really hasn't impressed me much at the moment maybe things will change in the not so distant future,as
Long as he doesn't put Parish in the head coaching position, then I may have more confidence in the man.........

WTF..The same people critisising our physical performance, facilities and injury stats on this forum now want Folkes as our S&C coach?

Unless Folkes has spent the last 5 years coaching elite athletes, attending seminars and being accredited here & overseas in the very latest and greatest techniques, he offers no improvement.

We need cutting edge (as much as we can afford), not the bloke who had the best "bent over row" results at Belmore in 1982!

Are you kidding?

He was strength and conditioning coach at the West Indies and the Dragons all within the last 6 years.

Our Strength & Conditioning, training and medical facilities have all been widely criticised by people in the know, including Mayer.

Folkes would be a massive upgrade to what we have.

Gee I kind of like the idea of Steve folkies .it's exactly the type of coach we need .a coach who has been there and done it .do people really think the game has advanced so much that a real rugby league coach isn't up to date with today's games.today's game is boring IMO .our team needs an experienced no nonsense man at the helm ,not unproven rookies , or your Nathan browns who have underachieved in the Nrl .yeah why not sign folkes

Exactly I don't want a soft cock coach , when we get flogged by 30 , says their , their … It's ok boys , go have a shower and put ya PJ's on and keep warm ...
I want a hard bastard as a coach who'll tear em a new one when they lose and that they all know their place in the pecking order !!
FOLKES is the man for the job !!!
