I think the issue is Sheens

It all comes back to the quality of the squad. Our problem is dud players can make a career out of footy at this club. The ones that want more than that move on to play in squads where the standards on the field are higher. They either improve/lift on the back of that or they get dropped.
Good luck to the coach who can buck the trend and lift the standards on the field, because the players have been fed at this club for years that they are not the problem.
IE Luke Brooks

Following the Titans/Storm game, the ABC grandstand crew was discussing our disastrous start to this season. I didn't catch all of it but my take aways were; They are as confused as we are about why we are playing so badly, The Sheens/Marshall coaching arrangement is a mistake. They were not positive about the rest of this season.
Sorry I can't give you more but I was busy and only half listening. If anyone has a recording, it's worth listening to. I agreed with much of what they said.
Let em cook

Sheens is in it for the long haul ,the team has basically been playing under its own instruction , the toolbox will be brought out soon and tinkering will start, to fix it

I think that pretty much lines up with what most of us are thinking.

It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than it is for a negative person to be happy.

Don't rely on others such as commentators and "experts" to form your opinion for you or you are destined to a life of mediocrity. All successful people practice independent thought.

That is all.

I disagree and agree Merlot. It appears to me the main influence on the team has been Benji under Sheens‘ instructions. The players appear to be trying to follow but look confused imo.
The final domino has been watching this unfold. A player of his style who likes to run the ball from the edge and cut back to the middle, would be looking for opportunities. I imagine his eyes will be firmly fixed on Brooks. If he is that injury free, fully acclimatised domino, we could see others follow his lead?

So 2 weeks is too short, but you can judge his performance in 6 weeks?

This has to be the dumbest comment on the dumbest thread on the internet today.
I pray that supporters of other clubs don't stumble on it.
The supporters of this club have proven this week that they're far weaker than any team that's ever run out.
Yes we damn well can. To copy Earl's post:
"Let's be really clear about the changes we've made:-

1. Sacked the coach and replaced him with what appears to be a pretty good team.
2. Got rid of Hastings who was viewed as not being a guy to lead us forward.
3. Signed Api who is a gun hooker who wins a lot.
4. Signed IP who has been one of if not the best second rower in the comp for the past 2 years.
5. Signed Bateman who is an International.
6. Signed Klemmer who has consistently been one of the top props in the game.
7. We have new state of the art facilities.
8. The club is trying to get Moses here even though I can't see him coming and despite that performance I don't want here."

If Sheens cannot deliver with a team like this, then why keep him?
Not saying we have to fire him. But if I was the Board and I see us at 0/6, with our team looking at another wooden piece of Cutlery, I would be reaching out to Des Haslier or Shane Flanagan.

Is wanting success after we made "the best signings of any NRL team" wrong? The Dolphins clearly have a winning squad with players who haven't played together. We need to set the bar, Sheens has an awesome squad compared to Madge and he needs to prove that result on the field.

Interesting to see our squad vs the dogs:

It's clear that we have the better Forward pack while the dogs have the better halves and likely backline. I see the dogs winning, because they still have a decent forward pack

The good part is I see Sheens making changes that make sense. We lost a lot at Fullback, send Laurie back to reserve grade for a bit. Putting Wakeham as a 3rd man put's Brooks/AD on notice.

Changes like this I did not see under Madge. We do want people to get used to positions and who they are playing with. We should have won vs Newcastle though.

I just posted in another thread about our attack and it's all on the coaches. They are not playing to Brooks and Doueihi's strengths at all.

The way I see it, we have Api controlling the middle on his own. No ball playing lock helping, and no halfback on the ball helping. We are playing Brooks wide expecting his pace will cause trouble on the edge. Problem is, the hooker isn't enough to condense the middle to give Luke space. We need to shift our thinking. Brooks' speed will be more beneficial through the middle. He needs to play close to the ruck unless we somehow unearth a smart lock. This will open up the edge for Doueihi and the fullback.

The idea behind the structure makes no sense. Long ball to the halves with just the hooker controlling the middle = shocking coaching.
Cronk said something similar the other night and there was only one instance v the Knights where we played it tight around the Ruck and turned it back inside and we split them.... Cronk noted the coaches should've been aware and sent message adjusting our direction
.. They didn't.
It didn't happen again all game

The Benji coaching scenario is not working. He needs to do his time and make his bones in lower grades. Going straight into first grade coaching with zero coaching experience is a recipe for disaster. Sheens as much as I love what he did for our club bringing a maiden premiership all those years ago if safe to say he's a has-been now.

My gut feeling is you are right. I really hope I've missed something and the dynamic duo will be a revelation, but not confident at all.

This is where we are at RD 3...

"When it was pointed out Ciraldo could have blocked his own return to head coaching, Sheens said: “Sometimes I wished he did.”

They didn’t have the toughest preseason ever?
Would Sheens have chosen the same team which went to NZ for the trial if it was played locally?
I thought at the time it was a great opportunity to get the players gelling, as it eventuated we had a slow start to the season.
Something is going terribly wrong and the club needs to explain?

Watch the ask the boss episodes. They will tell you everything that isnt going wrong at the club and refuse to admit the other stuff. Just some rubbish about it being unacceptable.
I don’t understand the logic, when people say everything will be fine and dandy when we start winning? Don’t they mean when everything is fine and dandy we’ll start winning?
When I was a kid watching the milko pass by the house, the horse was always in front of the cart.

I just hope it’s not one coach saying one thing to the players and another saying the opposite…
