Ikin: Harry Grant "not developed"

NRL360 is a terrible show. Dunno how many times we have to go over this. I'm surprised people are still watching it after the way the club was trashed during the year Aaron Woods was their weekly guest.

Ray Hadley has stints now.

They were raving about Harry Grant...and then mentioned he has not played 80 all year, but still slayed them last year etc etc...

And Ikin chimes in with "off the back of a season he was not developed. Wests Tigers" and looked at Kent waiting for a nod.

Why mention it here? Well, if that is the perception...no wonder we have problems recruiting.

**Grant was very well developed at the club last year IMO. His game went from QLD Cup to Origin.**

Side note: I am old enough to 'remember' Ikin's career. Basically he was a state cup player who got a break when the NRL SL war erupted and had about 2 good games. Failed, crumbled, every single time in finals and quickly disappeared. Not really sure how he has been allowed to become a FOX 'expert'.

150 NRL games and 17 SOO

I would killed and maimed for that career

and a premiership in 2000

Disgraceful and totally inaccurate comment from Ikin, who showed his true colors
If I was Madge,I wld decline to appear on this show ever again without a public apology. Not the greatest coach going around, but deserves respect and merit where its due
As someone else mentioned,Harry went from a solid state cup player to an Origin star in one season..all due to just good luck huh?
No wonder he didnt get the CEO gig at Broncos...

I’ve given up on the show all they do is look for drama and try and stir people up
If they actually looked at games and broke down game plans it would be so much more interesting

Agree - it has become really boring

Nah...Kent is interesting and always ready to front up,as he did with DCE tonite.Good to watch him squirm and backtrack...mite becone the new member for Warringah.
Token Tara Pitt adds absolutely nothing except the sound of her own voice echoing unsubstantiated opinions, whereas Hooper sits on the fence.
So theres a good 15 mins in there somewhere..gotta search for it

It would make a great headstone.

I was just watching the episode on replay and was taken aback by the snide comment. It was such a quick jab that I wondered whether anyone in the forum would have noticed. Jumped on and sure enough there’s a whole thread dedicated to the comment. There’s no benefit of the doubt for Ikin on this one. It was clearly a snide remark about the Tigers whom he does not rate. He’s been quite smug about the Tigers after he was the only one on the panel to write them off earlier this year.

To add some context, James Hooper was talking about how dominant Harry Grant was coming off the interchange bench in the Origin decider last year. Ikin interrupted Hooper and the exact quote was “off the back of a season he had at a club where he wasn’t developed. The Wests Tigers.” And then proceeded to laugh and look towards Kent.

I think it was uncalled for.

Sounds like he was just wrapping Grant. That he could have a great year followed by a great origin, all in his rookie year. And at a club that he new to.

Some thin skins around...who cares... I don’t reckon Madge cares.

I reckon Madge would put one in his face if Ikin had the guts to say that in person. Which he wouldn't.

I think the club will care he said it though.

Harry grant been with Melbourne for ages and 1 season with us neither team can keep him injury free he plays the game in unsustainable way for his body to cope. Just like papz

I agree, but Harry engages in more collisions than Paps.

The concern I had for Harry back end of last year is, despite how tenacious and on-the-ball he is, competing at that level constantly is difficult for most players and he doesn't seem to be as resistant to wear-tear injury as someone like Brandon Smith is.

Made sense to me when he came on during Origin III and murdered it with a 15-minute spell of high tempo play, but I told my Sharks-supporting friend at the time: that's all well and good, but can he pace that output for 60-80 mins for each of 24 rounds?

My mate sneered but I made the point that despite how good a footballer he is, I think Harry's game did drop a bit in the last rounds of 2020, and we were aware he carried a decent hand injury for much of the year, even though he played most matches. He was probably lucky it was only a 20-round season in 2020.

Harry is basically the polar opposite of Cameron Smith, who intentionally did not continuously engage in high-impact, high-tempo match events, but instead held a very steady pace and picked his moments. Barely ever got injured, was still around the ball all the time, but didn't throw his body into the contest as much.

Kent is becoming Gus Jr, getting on his high horse all the time. Hooper likes the sound of his own voicey, last few times he's talked over Lara Pitt, even tonight just so he could repeat what she said. In fact I found her comments tonight carried the most weight. I used to like the show, buts nowadays its just looking for drama each night.

Did the club knock him back on a position here? He seems to have it in for us?

We have a lot of members. It stirs for a reaction.

That being said, did we develop or just play Harry Grant? Honestly?

We keep Blore on the bench and limited to 15minute sprints. Harry seemed to be playing 80 early and most games. We thrashed him.

Now Harry developed here. We Definately trained him and yes i think he reached a nedt level here. If thats Iken's point its wrong, Grant would probably have been Melbourne reserves last year. Grant learned and grew under us, even if we still have a development problem! (And we do)

But we thrashed Grant. He rose to the occasion but we thrashed him.

Did Kent give him the nod ?

He should have given him the bird!

Thats Gold !

Ikin is an idiot. It’s crazy to suggest that a club who signs a player on a one year contract would be focusing on developing him.

It’s like saying you should service your rental car. No you drive it like it’s hot.

The development plan was Melbourne’s, he plays first grade and returns to them having experienced the grind of weekly first grade football.

I hope I’m wrong but I fear injuries are going to be a constant headline in Grants career.
