Improving our TPA situation

I'd be interested to hear people's ideas on the opportunities the new board presents to improve the TPAs we can offer class players.
Hopefully the corporate expertise amongst the board members means they will excel in this regard.
But can we improve in the near future?
Or has the club hit rock bottom, and it's going to be a long turn around?

We need to win more games.Successful businesses want to be associated with successful clubs. All of the negativity which used to be leaked about the board wouldn't of helped either.

That's exactly right. Winning is the answer. If only we had a Packer or a Crowe amongst our midst, that would help our TPA situation….. Nice dream !

It's a classical Catch 22 situation . We need more money from TPA's to buy the players we need to win more games but at present we do not have those TPA's. However a well run professional club which does not attract degrading media attention from issues such as nasty disputes between the Club Captain and Head Coach would have a great advantage in attracting the TPA's the club so desperately needs.

We have started preparing for 2015 in a very positive way but nonsense disputes such as we had throughout the 2014 season will very quickly send the club down the gurgler. Players, coaching staff management and supporters all need to work together in a very positive way if the club is to go forward. I don't believe that such a situation is so difficult to achieve.

Newtown, valid points,I also think that marketing our club and searching for other sponsors other than the ones that are loyal is one of the bigger issues.I understand that a stable winning club attracts that sponsorship, and at the moment we are a work in progress in all areas.
The new board with their professionalism and business acumen will see a much improved club all around,it won't all happen at once but I can see a much better future with some hard work and the team performing more consistently on and off the field.
If we can battle through the tougher times and win games with what we have got, then I think the better times will come.
Many people are interested in the Wests Tigers, just not in the dramas associated with us at the moment.I believe we can and will fight our way back to the great club we can be and are….. :sign:

That is the reason we have had to concentrate on the juniors coming through, we are so lucky we have Keebra park School.
We are going to really have to have a good year in 2015, after this year's dramas we are behind the 8 ball already.
With sucess and more wins it should attract some TPA's and Business people might see us as more attractive proposition. I'm hoping this will be the case.

We have St Greg's and Holy Cross in our catchment areas yet everyone bleats about Keebra Park. The success rate out of these schools over the past few years is significantly higher. I hope we look after them first and foremost

Alf,totally agree, however Keebra Park gives us another avenue of talent and we should appreciate the young talent that comes from that particular school..

The more troops the better…. :sign:

Yeah exactly True Tiger, Alf I'm well aware of the Juniors of St Greg's and Holy Cross, I was meaning Keebra Park as an added bonus in relation with our struggle for TPA's.
We should be thankful we have Keebra as part of our nursery.

I said on here the other week that I was talking to a friend of Luke Lewis and he told me that Luke has a contract with Cronulla for three years after he stops playing for $250K a year as a trainer and I asked the question could the tigers do that as well but my post was taking down

The more schools the better but yes Holy Cross has had its best batch of kids in 30 years over the past few years. The barrel was pretty dry for a long time though.

Keebra has consistently given us players for the club across all grades.

I don't know if St Gregs give us anything though. We don't really have an arrangement with them as such. Other clubs have regularly got their best players ahead of us over the past decade.

We'll always struggle to get TPA's at the moment. TPA's are basically a rich boys club where mates help out mates. We don't have any rich boys associated with the club, however we now at least have some business professionals who should at least have some sort of network of contacts.

Cronulla have been in heaps of serious trouble with the NRL this year and if the reported situation with Luke Lewis is true and is investigated then Cronulla will be in even more trouble. Just because a team is playing shonkies doesn't mean that Wests Tigers have to follow suit. It is my opinion that quite a number of teams are playing tricks with the Cap but if the NRL does the job it has been intrusted with these clubs will eventually be caught out. It may unfortunately take time. Bulldogs and Melbourne for example were caught out years after they had carried out their major misdemeanours involving salary cap rorts.

Improving the TPA'S is all success based win games and be professional off the paddock the TPA'S will come and come with a rush.

Teams only get caught because someone with enough info talks. Case in point - the recent Bronco saga. Everyone knows that there were shenanigans going on, even the NRL knew but couldn't prove it because no-one talked.

Andrew Gee resigned and refused to talk?
The money was repaid by an unknown benefactor?
Really???

What a bleeding joke.

Gold Coast self report and get a slap over the wrist. They didn't self report before the new CEO took over and the NRL did not know about it.

The salary cap is for good guys. And we know where good guys finish!

And yet, Cronulla can run stone motherless last most seasons, have heaps of off-field dramas and still have enough cash to lure big name players, proving that it's not only about winning and appearing successful - there are other issues involved, as well.

Flip.maybe players see Cronulla as easy pickings to fill the bank account, not caring where they run in the comp as long as they get the big dollars…
To me it's not about esteem so much as it is about the almighty dollar...

Some players or should I say most professional athletes take pride in what they do and achieve, others are happy to go along for the ride... 😱pen_mouth: :sign:

It all sounds good
A another element to this I think is attitude. Look at the mighty Wests tigers 2005.eg: Back slapping 'hi fives . They play for each other 'for the coach and the fans.
2014 South Sydney Great attitude. Played for each other the coach and the fans.
Attitude starts from the top and siphons all the way down.
Hopefully 2015 we have the right attitude.
Attitude is infectious.

Harry could have customers and partners pay invoices by sponsoring players instead.. Similar to how Souths have TPA and/or sponsorships with movie houses etc

Here's a potential example at Souths - Russell's next movie he is meant to be paid $10M. Instead he pockets $9M and has another feature film arrange a TPA with a player. Obviously this isn't disclosed to the NRL

The downside to all this is it is breaking the salary cap…

Tiges05,if we were to do what other clubs get away with,we would be caught straight up..
Don't know why but we the WTs are always bagged by the media and always watched in what we do.
If JT farts in the sheds,it would be in the media before the smell clears… 😱pen_mouth: 😱pen_mouth: :sign:
