What point are you making?

Was merely pointing out that benjirifics post suggests allAshfield has to do is turn the lights on cause they have a ''gambling demographic'' where rozelle doesnt because of its proximity to the casino.
Ashfield's four and a half kliks further way, ie: makes little difference

If you think Ashfield and Rozelle are the same Demographics then you clearly haven't been to either suburb.

You live in Sydney, how can you not understand what a huge difference 4km can make?

Castle hill to parramatta?…... Bondi to redfern?...... Rozelle to Ashfield?

There are parts of Sydney you can walk two streets away and feel like you're on a different planet.

What are the answers?
- Wests fork in the $1mil and gain an extra board member, doesn't look like that's going to be accepted
- Balmain find the necessary funds, doesn't look like that's going to happen
- Stalemate, the NRL will have to step in, looks like the way it will end up let's hope not too much damage is done before we get there. At the end of the day the focus wouldn't be on this if the footy team was going well.

We are getting away from the topic, but anyway…...

I grew up in ashfield

The point someone else made was balmain Leagues failed due to its closeness to the casino...i pointed out ashfields 4 k further away.

To me thats BS...

You explain why it isnt thank you

That 4 km difference means about a 300% difference in real estate prices, and a black and white (pardon the pun) difference between the respective nationalities (and spending habits) who live in those areas.

That 4 km means a hell of a lot in this instance!

Good luck to Wests Ashfield, but the profits their club makes does not automatically equate to an equally successful ability to run a football club. I would at least like to hear their vision for the future, and what they propose to do differently, before I want to see them effectively take over my football team.

I think that's fair.

EXCLUSIVE: THE fragile Wests Tigers joint venture has sunk to a new low after a Balmain legend stormed out of a Western Suburbs function claiming to be "insulted".

Former forward Neil Pringle, who played 140 games for Balmain, claimed Wests Ashfield director Rick Wayde was an "idiot" during a Wests reunion last Friday afternoon.

Pringle claimed Wayde was "divisive" and had constantly attempted to "drive a wedge" between the joint venture partners.

A former City representative, Pringle flew to Sydney from Queensland at the invitation of Wests believing his attendance could help heal wounds between the merged yet troubled clubs.

The drama started when Wayde was on stage interviewing several former Magpies players, including Tommy Raudonikis, Noel Kelly and Arthur Summons.

Wayde then asked ex-Magpies coach Roy Masters how he handled walking the Kokoda Trail last year.

"Roy was talking about his Kokoda Trail walk and how tough it was it," Pringle said.

"He said they struggled through the mud and how the Western Suburbs spirit kept them going and how they would sing the Wests theme song.

"Then this divisive Wayde says: ‘Sounds tough — like going into partnership with the Balmain Tigers’."

An irate Pringle added: "I walked out in protest at 3pm. I walked over to the head table and told them I had had enough. And I hadn’t had a drink either.

"On the way out I gave Wayde a gobful at the door.

"Wayde has been divisive since the joint venture started, continually trying to drive wedges into the place. He got my hackles up. I was insulted, not so much personally but for my proud Balmain Tigers.

"I was hurt. He is trying to tear apart 200 years of our two club’s history. I want to see the club flourish.

"Pretty soon they will be writing obituaries for the Wests Tigers. I want there to be a future.

"I have a lot of Wests mates. Wayde certainly isn’t one of them. He is a reason why the club is so divided."

Wayde though fired back on Tuesday night.

He told The Daily Telegraph his comment was "innocuous and tongue-in-cheek".

"I don’t know why he got so upset. Maybe Neil has other problems," Wayde said.

"I am happy to have a beer with him."

Told of accusations he was divisive, Wayde said: "Absolutely unfair.

"I don’t regret my comment but I am upset Neil is upset because he was a player I respected.

"There was no malice or harm in the comment. It was just a joke.

“A few people on the day asked ‘what was that all about’?"

Pringle was still angry on Tuesday, five days after the function.

"I didn’t appreciate his comment," Pringle said.

The Wests Tigers on Tuesday night descended into a state of civil war with the Balmain side of the joint venture accusing the Magpies of "betrayal of trust and an indication of disrespect".

Balmain chairman Leslie Glen issued a blistering response to revelations in Fairfax Media that powerful stakeholder Wests Ashfield wants control of the Wests Tigers board in exchange for saving the club from insolvency.

As reported, the joint venture requires an urgent cash injection of $1 million to save it from financial collapse – a fact the NRL mysteriously wanted to ignore.

Balmain directors met on Tuesday night to discuss how to respond to Wests' proposal, under which the Magpies would gain an additional director on the board and the chairmanship for three years. But the appearance of the story in Fairfax Media – as well as comments from Wests chairman Mike Bailey – has outraged Balmain, and the joint venture's future is shrouded in uncertainty.

"Wests made an offer to Balmain Tigers recently, as outlined in the Herald article, which was confidential and which was to be considered by the Balmain Tigers board this evening [Tuesday]," Glen said. "The leaking of that offer and the comments by Mike Bailey is seen by me, at least, as a betrayal of trust and an indication of disrespect from our partners at Wests Ashfield.

"Balmain Tigers has a history of loyalty and honour in its dealings with all those with whom it has ties. We supported the formation of the ARL Commission and respect its authority and its charter to develop rugby league and foster the links between sport and the community. We recognise that corporate governance is a fact of life in our present-day economy."

While Wests wants control of the Tigers, Balmain wants to see more independent directors installed – something outlined in a report commissioned by the NRL earlier this year. It is understood the ARL Commission would only consider handing over additional funding to save the Tigers if they agreed to change their structure to a more independent model to stop the incessant infighting.

"We are pleased to co-operate with [NRL chief executive] Dave Smith, who has provided financial assistance to the NRL clubs that have made the game so popular," Glen said. "We need further financial support in order to continue this work now, it is true, but we believe we must strive to become independent as quickly as possible in order to become resilient and worthy of our heritage. Staying moribund, as Wests appear to desire, is not part of our ambition. Independent members of our Wests Tigers board who can offer us innovation and ideas are welcomed, not shunned. Balmain doesn't want to keep the same old people to continue warming seats on the Wests Tigers' Board (including myself). The Balmain Tigers' board welcomes change which will lead to a stronger Wests Tigers in the future."

Smith refused to elaborate on whether the NRL would financially assist the Tigers.

"I've met with the Wests Tigers board . . . but I am not going to go into the details of those discussions," he said. "We are working with all our clubs to make sure they are meeting those aims and that there is a five-year planning horizon. The financial accountability that is being built across the game will play an important role in that going forward."

The Wests Tigers board is due to meet on Thursday week, when the coaching structure for next season will be determined.

What a surprise that Rick Wayde is the cause of this. Grub of the highest that has been leeching off a proud club for 30 years.

He isn't well respected but he doesn't have to impress the Ashfield folk to keep his board slot.

He certainly isn't on his own in relation to being a worthless piece of crap on the WT board though.

That category straddles both sides of the aisle

Rick Wayde was a great "war time" leader and singlehandedly defeated the NSWRL for Wests readmission into the 1984 and 1985 premierships after being kicked out by Arthurson, Quayle and co. If it wasnt for him, Wests would have suffered the same fate as Newtown …..... the Leagues Club at Ashfield wasnt much help back then. Rick to me was great in battle but not so good in peace time. I knew it could be trouble if he finds his way back on the board as tact and diplomacy are not Ricks strong points. I would say Neil Pringle had an issue with Rick Wayde prior to this outburst and this has just added fuel to the fire.

Colours, LO is our spiritual home, who cares about size of the magpie on the sleeve and people like blocker and co being Tigers legends. So many times I said this is dividing the club, this was damaging, yet all i heard was to get over it. We're are these same clowns now. Yeah Rick Wayde means nothing to you, likewise Pringle for old Magpies like myself. FFS get over it.
