Independant directors would mean no financial support from wests or balmain. Afterall why would you be putting in money if you had no say in the running.

So the NRL will make up the shortfall and chuck in a heap of cash until we are profitable. This could be indefinate seeing as only one NRL club makes a profit. Outside of them relocating us to Brisbane I can see no reason why the NRL would give us financial assistance.

Wests controling the board is the only option to go.

The Wests Magpies board was in charge when the football club couldn't survive in 1999\. Same story in 1983,84 and 85 when the Wests Magpies went broke. If the Wests Magpies board couldn't save their own back then, what makes you so sure they can save a merged team now ?

Wests Magpies have no ownership of the WT anymore, they have sold their share to Ashfield… Wests Ashfield is a different entity... Not that it matters, its a bit rich of anyone to look a gift horse in the mouth... especially if you were in Balmains obviously flush financial position.

I think that was always the case B&W ….. Even though the football club appeared to have power, they didn't in reality. All the power was where the money is .... And that's with Ashfield.
They seemed prepared to sacrifice the Magpies in the 80's and late 90's (albeit with a healthy leagues club) so I feel a bit nervous with them back in control of a bigger entity. They might know how to run a gaming club but I don't think they understand how to run an organisation like the Wests Tigers.

The current board are doing a piss poor job ,could they be any worse ??

Just a friendly reminder for people to cut out the disguised swearing. There has been an increase of late, and I've been deleting more posts than I'd like to. Please folks, it's not hard to structure a sentence and raise a point without having to resort to swearing.

Clarification regarding Wests Group 50%

- 40% Wests Ashfield
- 10% Magpies FC

The Magpies FC is a separate entity (400+ members) to Ashfield Leagues Club (and Campbelltown Leagues Club) but the Magpies FC are virtually controlled by Ashfield. The Magpies FC have a small influence on WT.

Magpies FC role is to run the Ron Massey Cup team with Ashfield funding - thats it.

Ashfield is the main financial backer in WT and Magpies FC.. Both parties cant really exist (at the moment) without Ashfield.

Ashfield is part owners of WT due to their constitutional link to Western Suburbs Football club (Magpies). Thats why they were involved in 1999\. There has been years of infighting within Wests but this has settled in recent years.

Campbelltown Leagues was once owned by Ashfield and are now separate and have nothing to do with WT or Magpies FC. There only involvement is sponsorship of Wests JL. Wests JL is a separate body to Magpies FC.

Mike Bailey is the chairman of the Wests Group at WT board (for 2013) he is also chairman of Ashfield Leagues.

He is a original Magpie but supports the WT model.

Too much media hype about divided boards and infighting.. Ashfield support is essential to the short to medium term future of WT.

wtfl… that model is old.... Ashfield recently acquired Magpies stake.

One in the same. Magpies FC board is half made up of Ashfield Board men. It makes little difference. The Wests 'Group' is Magpies FC + Ashfield Leagues. But is Ashfield that has all re say and power.

I am a voting member for both. I know how it works. The point of my post is to quash the paranoia of a Magpies takeover of WT.
