Information Session for Magpie Members

I hope someone else can fill you in more as I'm in a hurry to get to a birthday party.
>
So in point form.
>
- Wests Ashfield haven't as yet promised funding for 2012
- Wests Tigers want 1 NSW Cup side next year called the Wests Tigers
- Wests Tigers also want to replace the Magpies Harrold Matts and SG Ball in Campbelltown. We are going to seek a copy of the constitution, a legal challenge may result. The club figures this is unconstitutional because there was no unanimous Wests Tigers board decision. We only ever agreed to have combined NRL squad in 1999 and to change that their must be a unanimous vote of the Wests Tigers board.
- Wests Leagues club at Campbelltown continues to vote with Balmain on all decisions basically handing them a majority on all issues.
- There have been negotiations with St George Illawarra about fielding their overage players at the Magpies next year. No official decision has been made yet.
- We will be moving our office out to Mount Annan and having stronger relations with Group 6
- The members at the room gave the concensus they want the Magpies club to go down fighting and want to field own teams again next year.
- A steering committee was setup to prepare the defence of the club. start a PR campaign, better communication to members, kick heads if needed etc
>
The fight begins today boys! Here we go again

if u dont want to read about it then dont enter a thread called "Information Session for Magpie Members" :crazy

The first point is the most important. Without this the rest of the points are invalid.

Looks like the internal issues of the so called Wests group have caught up with them. Personal opinions and agendas have got in the way of the ultimate goal.

Tigers wont lose their identity and brand.. Magpies will if this keeps up. Not fair in my opinion. The fracture with wests campbelltown is the biggest downfall in keeping the wests brand strong.

this is a joke. we never agreed to this in 1999\. now they want to take over our sg ball and harold matthews side too

Interesting that Wests Ashfield don;t seem to want to put any money into the 'Wests' only teams and Wests Campbelltown is voting with the 'Balmain' bloc…bviously something smells in the state of denmark.

Bring on a Wests Tigers only club in all grades!

Things are diff in hindsight! Balmain and wests merged because there was never going to be more than 14 teams in nrl. There is a bit of chatter about thr magpies returning to the nrl as western australia magpies in 2013\. 9 games in perth and 3 in campbelltown. Nsw cup side to feed NRL side.

Balmain and Western Suburbs merged because Balmain seen WS as a better option than a takeover by Parramatta. For that im am fully greatful to Balmain for having the hindsight of joining two great traditional clubs.Otherwise we WS were dead in the water. NO DOUBTS ABOUT IT .

1\. Realise that the balmain district is practically "inner-city" and will no longer be a source of players to come.

Inner west is growing at a faster rate than the macarthur region
Junior RL playing numbers are just as strong in the Inner west as out west.
**This argument is invalid**

2\. Realise that there are too many clubs, like balmain, near Sydney.

Yes, there are too many clubs.

3\. Realise that there is a production line of players coming up from the Liverpool- Mcarthur district.

No one doubts that, but there is also a production line of players coming from the inner west too. Holy Cross, for example, keeps pumping out player after player. **This argument is invalid**

4\. Realise this talent needs to be funnelled into a club who is represented in the top grade every second weekend in the district whom kids can aspire to playing for..

Fair enough

5\. Realise the threat from aussie rules in the greater west.

not sure about the seriousness of this thread, but ok

6\. Realise that Wests Tigers merger will never be based in the growing south-west of Sydney.

how? why? as per the terms of the JV, there is a 50:50 ratio. In fact there have been MORE games played at Campbelltown than Leichhardt. That's not including the countless trial games! **This argument is a fallacy**

6\. Realise that if a team needs to be relocated, it should be balmain and they can become the Perth or W.A. Tigers as it will be no great loss to the Sydney pool of junior players and indeed, supporters to come in future years.

hahaha yep. PS. 7 comes after 6

7\. Realise that the Liverpool-Campbelltown area needs it own team, i.e. Western Suburbs Magpies

It had one and it failed. It was called the Wests Magpies

8\. Realise that it'd sort a lot of things out, a) creating a W.A. team (under a tigers banner), for expansion, and b) Having the Wests Magpies representing the South-West of Sydney in an area craving for Rugby League.

\
\
so what about

9\. Leichhardt keeps getting huge crowds, bigger than Campbelltown. Clearly there is greater demand for league is in the inner-west.

10\. The tigers brand is strong. As per previous threads, the number of young people wearing Balmain jerseys demonstrates just how much more demand there is for the Tigers. Meanwhile demand for Wests is limited to a small group of hard-core followers.
Point number 1 is absurd. The Macarthur region has it all over the inner west.

Both clubs are greatful for having the chance to stay alive in some capacity within the NRL. But not with the eventual extinguishing of the wests brand. If we wanted the wests brand killed off, the magpies should have just hooked up with the bulldogs.

I will be filthy if a group in the minority ruin it for all the old magpie supporters who have moved on and follow wests tigers. legal challenges will only split the jv and it's a no brainer as to whom the NRL will side with. I agree all efforts should be made to retain wests in the name and the magpie on the sleeve but I think it is the next logical step for wests tigers to take over the juniors who will play out of campbelltown. It's where the jv will playing in years to come without doubt.

Ed resches - i agree with u but all sides of the WT jv must make sure there is a fairer representation of thr wests brand within WT and not just be seen as an 'extention of balmain' as steve humprhies has acknowledged.

Wests Magpies do get fair representation. The issues you are highlighting are the responsibility of marketing.

I also agree with Ed. If the Magpies stuff up this merger, I will not be happy. Everything that has happened, including the 2005 premiership, will be worth nothing in my eyes if Wests Tigers breaks up.

Wake up Wests - embrace the Wests Tigers brand.

The fact that funding is drying up from their major source should be a major sign that backwards is not the way to go forwards.

I think if anything it has shown what styles work and what don't.

Digging their heels in about even the most insignificant issue has seen the Magpies administration become an utter joke who has the appearance of only wanting to live in the past with no eye towards finding a middle ground on any issue.

Whilst ever the Wests Tigers club wa sbeholdent to their grant money for financial viability these actions were tolerated. However as the clubs independant revenue sources have grown this tolerance level has dropped and all bar a few running WSDJRL have been able to see that working together was the way forward.

I sincerely hope that the boat has not sailed on this and that finding a common ground is s till an option because I would hate to see this great club dragged through the rubbish yet again.

we should have fought the nrl in the courts like souths did

:roll the NRL Partnership wouldve just folded, and News Ltd would be running thier own competition.

Funnily enough, Souths, Norths, Wests & Balmain would probably still be playing in the NSWRL and become feeder teams to a News Ltd run National Comp!!!
:deadhorse:

Resilliance is futile. It's unfortunate that the Wests Group cannot Agree amongst themselves… How can they expect anyone else to agree with them?
ps: PLEASE.... No more clueless statements that the Wests group supply 3/4 of the funding to Wests Tigers... It is becoming obviously evident that the Wests Tigers are becoming less reliant on the Clubs for funding!!
I think for the first time this year... I'd actually heard of our sponsors before they were on the Jersey.

Alien I can't agree with you there mate . Where do you think Wests would be now if they had done so
Probably looking at relocation or financial ruin .And thats the last thing any of us die hard Wests fans want . This is the best option Alien
