Information Session for Magpie Members

Seems like some conflicting stories about the junior rep sides.

Merging them though would be totally ludicrous at that age group.

Better for WTs in the long run imo

People will say condensing two into one will be shortchanging ourselves, I say crap, 96-98% of em wont make NRL anyways

They are trying to make the Wests Magpies extinct at all levels. They don't care about the fans.

So the NSWRL has decided to remove the Wests Magpies junior rep sides ? Have they re-arranged the junior boundaries?

The only way Wests Magpies will become extinct is if Ashfield stop funding them.

Take a deep breath people…

I think the fear factor is this.

Wests Magpies will have SG Ball & Harold Mathews, but the rumour is the Wests Tigers want to enter a SG Ball and Harold Mathews sides also.

Might be better financially but I don't agree that you can fully decide if a kid will make it at the 15-18 age level. Some kids develop differently both physically and mentally. Some might be gun players at junior level and then go astray as they get older… And some might not start showing promise until they have developed more...

Bug,
So from 1 team to now 3 teams… More conflicting stories.

When did the Wests Tigers become a member of the NSWRL ? When did Wests and Balmain hand over there junior rep sides/boundaries to them ?

No I am talking about WT. They want to take over all grades.

Yes Wests Tigers want to take over all grades, but in no way will this be a re-branding, or merging structure. The Balmain and Wests boards will simply not let it happen.

There will be a Wests Magpies Harold Matthews and SG Ball, as there will be a Balmain Tigers Harold Matthews and SG Ball team. Both will be run under the WT football department, but will stand alone as teams. The idea is that the CUBS system acts as the joining of the two squads to move towards the NYC, and therefore a single State Cup team is the next logical step.

Yes, the idea is that WT will be running all grades (call it a takeover if you like), but it will not see the end of the Wests Magpies in the junior representative competitions.

Matty ….. this would be the best outcome for all concerned. hopefully they will merge the state cup teams and the league will improve the state cup competition.

The logistics will make it too hard imo.
Wests have plenty to choose from in the junior ranks ,Balmain on the other hand would struggle.

So I started reading all the ridiculous rants here and got a bit over it - is their a link to what they have actually announced or is this just all outrageous innuendo and a few old Wests Magpies fans going nuts over a rumour or comment or even a sensible plan

I think its Alien who cant get over the fact Balmain saved us from a certain death way back in 1999.No wonder the big guy always makes reference the the Magpies .He holds up his go Wests banner, always wears his Magpie gear.Wests had a great win against the Cronulla Storm.I was impressed with Davis when he cam back on after a head cut .

Western Suburbs only formed a joint-venture with Balmain because of the stupid criteria list that the NRL had. I'm not exactly sure why Balmain was higher on that list than Wests when the Campbelltown Wests area seemed to have a stronger future, and I'm not trying to offend Balmain by saying that. The NRL was a bit short-sighted. The NRL also got rid of Perth, Adelaide, Gold Coast and South QLD which they shouldn't have done. We now have a Gold Coast team again, and hopefully another South QLD/second Brisbane team soon, so we are slowly getting back to what we already had over 10 years ago. Who knows how long it will be until we get a Perth team and an Adelaide team back. This was all happening whilst the AFL were spreading it's wings.
