I don't get the comments towards IP on this thread. He stuffed up. It wasn't an effort play it was dumb. He also needs to do more on the field. His attack isn't there at this point.

He needs to lift his game.

Of course it was an effort play. Fogarty's kicking game is what kept them in the game he was set up to pot it and Papalii did his best to put him off. You got seconds to react in a game - tge easy option is always to stand back and do nothing

It's a penalty every day of the week. That isn't effort. It's dumb. It lost us the game in the last minute or so.

He was attempting a charge down of course it was effort play with minutes to go and the best kicker on the park about to equalize.

Are you saying that IP didn't know that rule ? You can charge down but you cannot touch the kicker. He had to have known that right ?

If you do a head high tackle is that an effort play ?

We'll have to agree to disagree with the comment that he was penalized for that play and we lost the game off that kick in the last minute.

The momentum of the dive caused him to make contact with kicker. Plenty of effort plays go wrong it's a contract sport it's got nothing to do with knowing the rules. He tried to put off the kicker the easy option for any thing is to do nothing.

He's an NRL player, he should be able to make intelligent decisions.
Diving at a kicker's legs can only end one way.
He could've made the same effort play keeping his feet with his arms up.
There's no excuse for dumb.

No he couldn’t, watch it back.

He wouldn’t have gotten anywhere near the ball if he didn’t dive like that.

It’s just unfortunate, it’s a game of inches.

Definitely a penalty.

I think it's called physics.
Just momentum following his attempt to block the kick.
Dead set unlucky, on every count.

We were in front, the worst result was that they tie the score and we're still in it, so the priority should've been no penalties.
I'm still pissed. Now I have to punt angry all day.

Gotta give yourself the best chance of not drawing a penalty.

At worst he kicks the field goal and we go into extra time. I felt like we were on top in that period and probably go on to win..at best he misses the field goal and we win in normal time

diving in that situation is only ever going to end badly, but I guess hindsight is a wonderful thing lol

Because he does a lot of the ugly stuff. Takes tough carries, kick pressure, a lot of it goes unnoticed. Dangerous player close to the line too

He’s not far off his parra form but in a lesser team imo

He was supposed to put pressure on the kicker without making contact. That is the rules. You can't make a poor play into a good one by stating the effort was good.

That said, Ice has been ramping up these last few weeks. His play is very good.
