ISP Team Announcement: Round 23
Author Dan Talintyre Timestamp Tue 14 Aug 2018, 03:57 PM

Western Suburbs Magpies Intrust Super Premiership Coach Brett Hodgson has named his squad to take on the Wyong Roos for their Round 23 clash this Saturday.

Kickoff for the match is at 3:00pm AEST from Morry Breen Oval, Wyong.

After a thrilling last-start victory over Mounties on the weekend, Hodgson has named a strong squad for this week's game with Tuimoala Lolohea to feature in the halves alongside Tyson Gamble.

Dylan Smith retains his spot at fullback after scoring two tries in the win over Mounties, while impressive young prop Thomas Mikaele is promoted to the run-on side after scoring a try and setting up another.

Chris McQueen and Robbie Rochow start in an experienced back row combination, with Bayley Sironen, Alex Seyfarth, Ben Seufale and Connelly Lemuelu rounding out a young bench for the Magpies.

Western Suburbs can officially clinch a finals berth with victory on Saturday, while a win over the eighth-placed Roos could see the team finish the penultimate round of the regular season as high as second.

I’d rather see Connelly Lemulu In the centres with Sam Mclntyre on the bench

Yep, McIntyre has been rather underwhelming so far this year. Not sure if he's made a single line break and looks more like a prop /back row.

With Lemuelu off contract let's see what he can do

Gamble field goal snatches last-minute win for Wests

For the second straight week, a field goal to Tyson Gamble has sealed a stunning last-minute win for Western Suburbs in the Intrust Super Premiership competition.

Leading 12-6 midway through the first half, Brett Hodgson's side conceded three tries in the space of eight minutes to find themselves trailing by eight points at the break with their top four hopes fading fast.

However, a late comeback from the side and field goal from Gamble with two minutes to play — just as he did last week against Mounties — sealed the 25-24 victory over the Wyong Roos at Morry Breen Oval.

The result sees Western Suburbs move inside the top four with one game remaining of the regular season where they will face the Newtown Jets at Henson Park. Hodgson's side have officially qualified for the finals series, and could finish as high as third depending on the result of next week's game.

Full Match Report to come.

Western Suburbs 25 (Watene-Zelezniak 3, Godinet, Robson tries; Lolohea 2/5 goals; Gamble field goal) def. Wyong 24 (Tupouniua, Gray, Sharpe, Momirovski, Lam tries; Cornish 1/2, Momirovski 1/3 goals)

Least we have someone to cheer in the finals.

Hold off all contract and upgrade talk until we see how they handle the pressure if finals. Enough already of guys who turn it up and choke on the big occasion.

Maybe now WT are out of the semi finals race maybe Luke Garner can return to ISP to captain the side to hopefully a Grand Final win.
