He's not really had the cap capacity to do much. Until he offloaded Reynolds and a few others he couldn't target anyone decent.

He had the money to go hard for Latrell Mitchell on more than $1m a season. That would have bought 2 pretty good wingers.

Yep he always was the best and still would be now, as you say. I know he wanted to move on for personal reasons, but we really should’ve tried much harder to keep him for another year or two at least because we clearly had no decent wingers in mind to replace him.

To be fair, no coach in the last decade has really had this team firing, or even showing a consistent, acceptable level of defence for any decent length of time.

Admittedly Cleary probably got the best out of the team he was working with, but he also made some terrible signings which are still crippling us a little. And he still didn’t get us to a finals series.. So a combination of the playing group and recruitment seem to have the evidence stacked against them over the long term. I’d lean towards those two factors before blaming the current coach again. It’s a long process, but we come unstuck again for 5 or so years if we punt Maguire. Unless we’re replacing him with Bellamy, which we’re not.

Sorry, but you are guessing, you have no way of knowing that.
From memory:
LM at the time he knocked us back, said he didn’t want the pressure of being the person the club relied on to get them moving up the ladder, also I think his family are staunch Rabbitoh fans.
My understanding JAC went for the money (nothing wrong with that) I think we offered a convoluted contract that gave him KPI’s to get the big bucks, The dogs just said sign here for more money up front?
