It's time to take the fight back to HBG

I mean the people involved. The 20 debenture holders, for some reason, wrestled the club back from an optimal structure, and I don't know if you've managed to contact any of them and find out what story they are telling. Do we have any insight into their psyche or rationale there, and why they still persist as we are today?

I mean, understanding their reasons is probably the best way to make change. I assume it's just ego's / power trippin, but it would be interesting if there is any nuance there. Have you ever seen them open to dialog?
Maybe we need to get @KevB involved. He thinks there is a pathway through consensus. Maybe he knows something we dont.

I'm resigned to the fact that this club will forever be a basket case while HBG own it. They have proven time over time again they are not fit to oversee the WT, running out the games best club administrator for at least two decades was either insanity, stupidity, or both.

It's not even a "Wests Magpies" thing for mine. HBG appears to be full of political manoeuvering, infighting and egotism. Probably one of the reasons why Wests Campbelltown got out years ago.

Correct

If you get rid of HBG would most likely mean you have a new owner , new owner would only happen if the nrl allowed the sale which means the new owner/ owners would be loaded and they would be all in , they would spend to get the results , they would also have watched the last 10 odd years and know it’s only up for the wests tigers we can’t go much lower
And do you think it's going to be easy to find new owners that are happy to put forward the cash every year?

I'm not saying that we keep HBG, yes, we should be rallying to have the option to move them on but in the meantime we actually have a profitable Club, let's figure out the right structure around it.

We need an independent board regardless of HBG.
There should be a certain prerequisites to being on the Board, maybe have certain KPIs for executive board members like chairmen on CEO to benefit when they reach certain KPIs.

I think a lot more needs to be done in that space.

For me, this is about the return of a major independent board and the review recommendations.
What avenues are there available to affect the change though Gary. Like i posted earlier even if they listen, whats to stop them from reneiging in 2 years time to do a hostile takeover again. They have us fans by the berries. They own the joint with total control. The petitions last time worked cause there were those in the HBG board who were sympathetic to the cause and were willing. This time after the last 2 years, whos on their board now that would be willing to listen and apply pressure from within. HBG will just ride it out and hide behind the debunture system till the heat settles. Only way i could see permanent change without a sale is if Velandys demended it on behalf of the N.R.L and dictated the board make up, but being privately owned and seeing the appetite he had for it last year doubt very much he cares. Were just in a rock and a hard place because we have no avenue to affect any permanent change without the HBG boards blessing. A board set up so no matter how poor they perform they are untouchable.

I hope this point doesn't get lost among all the other conversations.

It's a juvenile way of thinking when you make an unknown entity the villain. Everyone has a stake in this, most of the time it's financial. I don't believe this concept that all 20 of them just want Magpies back.

Regardless it's important to figure out what they want. WT doing good means they do good. That should be the structure, otherwise what incentive do they have? Those who cannot benefit off WT shouldn't be involved in any decision making process, no matter how elementary their involvement is.

What do they want out of WT and if Wt winning or losing, doing good on or off field doesn't affect them, then we need to move them on.
Thanks @tig_prmz .

I completely get why people do though. The debenture holders have shown nothing but contempt for the fans in the way they run this club and communicate. They've never felt the need to explain anything, or when they do, it's quickly retracted because of glaring gaps... or their comms are in some combative social media post.

Do they understand that it's how it's being perceived? Why don't they come out and talk? Is it that they are fearful, given they're not seasoned leaders?

I get that it's not normal for the board to be out there, but we're not a normal club. If everything were smooth, or if they showed progress, such as keeping the report structure, it would be a different story.

This vacuum of information and insights is a core issue. It's not really something Shaun can help with either.

I think if HBG put the club up for sale overnight you would have 2 to 3 buyers in Sydney plus ample consortiums from overseas. Gone are the days Rugby League teams dont make money. We are profitable now, subsidised by the N.R.L with the biggest fanbase in the game by far. A fanbase that has just been untapped. Any prospective buyer in the N.R.L would see the Wests Tigers as extremely attractive. Also everyone inside tge game knows the problems we have are from HBG not within. I think if a firm were brought in to sell us we would be sold in weeks.

You're not wrong. Especially with pathways, as you don't really see the return on that.

HBG as an ownership entity is fine. But having the WT board controlled and governed by 20 debenture holders, who are selected based on back-room relationships/nepotism, is just obviously such a bad structure.

The report needs to be reimplemented, with more careful consideration of the nuclear option for HBG. We also need to use technology to ensure they have the transparency they complained about. Even veto areas, such as the magpie on the sleeve, the NSW Cup team, etc., that they are passionate about, should be included.

By tightening up these rules and transparency, HBG would save face on a path back to reimplementing the report (if it was non-existent last time)

Not one of the debenture holders will sell mate. It's a dead end. The directors do not own the club and will not get any benefit. What incentive do they have? They won't even give up semi-control to an independent board, let alone sell the whole thing.

Call Ashfield council ask for a favor, tell them to block any future plans or developments of Wests Ashfield. Organise health and safety inspectors to visit every 5 days. Food safety inspectors to visit and shut everything down while they inspect every 3 days. Thats before id start making calls to any workers unions to plan strike action or offer bibes to whistle blowers and get the media camped on tge footpath outside the joint. Make HBGs life hell. If they can ruin my club for fun. Bugger them ruin theirs. If they can make decisions and hide. We can use corruption. Unlike what the current generation think the reality is there are no rules in war. Nothing is beneath me. If i was in council with Darcey id already be having private meetings. Its only illegal if you get caught.

100%. Only way is if N.R.L force the change or they choose to. Neither will happen. We all learnt something last time though. When the media went after Burgess for his instagram account he gave up his seat on the Wests Tigers board quick smart. He couldnt handle the hit to his image. Thats the roadmap. Pressure them personally through the media. They wont sell or give up control cause it s of no consequence to them. Though as soon as you start exposing them individually to the world, theyll cave 100%. Their image cant take the hit and their ego wont allow them to. Thats how you do it. I remember the charachter assassinations they conducted to our independant board members when they were punted with the HBG lies and Richo now hes been cleared of any wrong doing, HBG had no problem lying to paint others in a bad light to help their agenda and use members money to pay for any liability. We need to be shining a light on the board members charachter and past in the media for the whole world to see. Once they realise it ends when they let go of the Wests Tigers the club will be on the market within a day.

I learned a new word this week. I was surprised there was no picture of Darcy Byrne next the the dictionary entry.

You have to give the guy credit though, he's really playing the long PR game to try and get his profile up before having a crack at a federal house of reps seats when Albo retires:

demagogue

American
[dem-uh-gog, -gawg]/ ˈdɛm əˌgɒg, -ˌgɔg /
Or demagog

noun

  • demagogues
  1. a person, especially an orator or political leader, who gains power and popularity by arousing the emotions, passions, and prejudices of the people.
No doubt he is a muppet playing the PR game.... but still less of a Muppet than those at hbg
