Gould/penrith would be loving seeing tigers fans turn on our own coach. Thats probably half the strategy…say bits and pieces to the media in a certain way, leak half truths and make a few things up, let the media run with it and watch tigers fans turn on Ivan and push him out the door.

My take is that Ivan has been told that the head coach position at Penrith is available to him if he wants it for x dollars/years etc. Ivan has informed Pascoe of this off the back of the Griffin sacking yesterday (knowing the media would link him to his son). Pascoe has made comment about the two of them having a frank discussion around the situation - eg Pascoe letting Ivan know theres no way hes leaving here under contract. Also from Pascoes comments it's pretty clear that Ivan has not asked for a release. I actually think there is nothing to worry about at all and the comments from Go and Pascoe are completely reactionary to the intense media speculation and uproar from tigers fans that happened today rather than any concern internally. Pascoes video on our website I saw as a get stuffed to gould/penrith more than anything else.

Cant knock Ivan for receiving another job offer, have faith in Ivan that he will have come to the right decision. Everything the media is saying completely contradicts the character of the man we've gotten to know over the last 2 years. Just old mate Gould back at it again - causing a stir

Thanks Marzie. I was thinking I'd be on my own in this regard. Innocent until proven guilty? Not on this forum, the assumptions are sharpening the pitchforks for the masses.
It appears that many here have made the assumption that Pascoes talk about the legal side of things was in response to a request to leave from Cleary. I don't read it that way. Pascoe has said that Cleary has not asked for a release from either himself or Marina Go. I think the legal stuff was either to shut the Panthers offer down completely, or to set up proceedings following an attempt to coerce Ivan out of his contract, or both.

You are right NT, and often are.
However I felt great after a big rant and will be happy to be wrong as I usually am according to my wife, daughter and son (who is due in a week.)

If Ivan wishes to longer remain at the club however we force him to honour his contract, I cant see him encouraging his son to join us for the sake of one year. How do we recruit and resign players now? All players want to know who they are going to be playing under. We continually get shafted and the Nrl does nothing

I don’t know Ivan but I’d agree with SG that he seems a man of integrity.
This is the hope I’m clinging to in this situation.
I’m hoping the club has countered the Panthers and offered a 2 year extention to Ivan and continued discussions about Nathan.

Pascoe hasn’t sat on his hands today. He cancelled meetings to focus on this and nip it in the bud. From all I’ve gathered I’d say it’s a bit more than a coin flip that he stays. But if he goes it will be for a Kings ransom. And not just financial compensation. Will be players involved

After just hearing on 360 what transpired in the meeting with Penrith, Cleary needs to leave now.

What’s been said?

Kent spoke of a “meeting” that was held 2 weeks ago in which to discuss Nathan’s development. Supposedly, Panthers offered Ivan a contract for 2021/2022 yet Ivan suggested next year. Genuine or not there’s a ring of truth to it all.

Josh Reynold’s reaction to it was surprising. He spoke more out of concern for his teammates during Kent and Ikin’s questions. But Luke Lewis said it best by stating something like “Why would you want to go back to the same club that sacked you for not being good enough and didn’t believe in you instead of staying with a club that believes in what your building”.

So speculation or not the cat is out of the bag and either way (what happens with Ivan) it’s damaging for us.

I actually agree.

Playing the compensation card allows us to pick up some quality players.

Go all out for Adam O'Brien to coach, assistant at the Storm still unsigned for 2019.

People are missing the point - its more than just losing your coach - the whole Tigers brand would be laughable if they don't take a stand. Its about showing stakeholders and members and other clubs that the years of being a patsy are over. Pascoe has gone out of his way to state this. All that remains is that they stick to their guns. I personally believe Cleary will break his contract and walk with Gould up to his neck in that decision. If this happens the WT have to go hard - sue Cleary, sue Penrith and especially sue Gould. Stuff compensation. This could very well be a defining point in this clubs history.

The fact that Pascoe mentioned in the presser, that he too was sacked by the same CEO during his time @ the Panthers wasn't lost on me either. They've gone & made this personal. I salute Justin for coming out on the front foot & giving the fans what they needed.

You notice the PR machine kick into drive today too? A couple of manacured 1 sentence comments by both CEO & Chairman, and then a really well timed response 1 v 1 with Justin @ the end of the business day/news cycle.

This morning Brent Read questioned Ivan's integrity if he left the club, and now there's the article about how we can feasiby set up the chess board if we take it all the way to litigation. I'm actually proud of the club tonight. As I mentioned earlier, this is gotten personal now. Careers are on the line. We've got leverage 4 once now too. We gotta go all in boys & stop being emotional.

Just remember that for once tigers have ALL the leverage. Only incompetence from Pascoe and go could see tigers lose out here. So relax. Anyone who is offered a job would look at it. Doesn’t mean they take it. Ivan is a good man who is highly respected. And he likes that people think that of him.

Gould on the news was quick to state it wasn't him that had the discussion with Ivan Cleary. Perhaps Go and Pascoe have got their message across.

I have also heard this was driven by the chairman of Penrith David ONeill who is Clearys mate. Gus may very well be the messenger.

You can't be serious - so this was done without any consultation with Gould. That fat slime bag is up to his eyeballs in this.

Something tells me this time this may not have been his doing eventhough he will have buckleys convincing otherwise.
He has very little to do with Cleary due to their history however the chairman and Ivan are mates. Just sayin what is being reported.

Ivan must stay as coach…whether he wants to or not.

This club doesn't have the resources or ability to recover from losing him. We've signed players he wants to major contracts that will burden our salary cap for years (Packer, Matulino, Reynolds, Mbye). Some of these signings are dubious, but Cleary has the side playing with spirit and commitment. This is his team, his vision. He leaves and we're left with a washed up team who feel dudded and stuck, but who won't get better contracts elsewhere so we can't get rid of them. He'd also pick the heart out of our team and coaching staff.

I don't know how he faces the team or our fans again, but we have no choice but to keep him. He was entrusted with the rebuild, he came to the club at an opportune time when we were finally unshackled by salary constraints and he was told to make his team. Our club can't be expected to be saddled with his team, stuck in purgatory, while he's off somewhere else.

We can move on with good results next year, this is like an affair in a relationship. I sort of laugh at how cheated I feel about his secret meeting with the Panthers two weeks ago, but we honestly will not compete for another two years if he leaves. if he stays, I think we're every chance of making the 8 next year and building to success the year after. This will be a painful few months but we have no choice but to fight and Penrith have no grounds on which to demand we release him.

We have nothing to lose. We should not relent.
