Can’t get this picture out of my head:

Phil Gould on a bar stool in the corner of a seedy bar with 16 CEO’s swarming.

Gould is available at any price!! Grub

Really - my picture is different - Jabba The Hutt sidling up to Gandalf The Grey

That’s a better picture!

I edited to add the Mother of Dragons

A friend who is normally pretty good with this stuff reckons-

Gould and Bennett to team up at the Dragons in 2019.

Cleary then to Penrith (no doubt a payout to us negotiated).

Tigers searching for new coach.

Sounds way off…..
Why would Gould leave Penrith?

He got as much money as he can outa the Panthers so why not go to another club to get more money?

You can have $10 too if this happens.

#Unlikely

Then hand me the money now and i can become $10 richer.

Cant believe everyone is carrying on like we are losing a super coach please he has a record of about 45% cant be that hard to replace.

Which makes me wonder why Penrith would be targeting him as the man to take them to a Premiership, aside from wanting to retain Nathan of course. Penrith have about a 2 or 3 year window for a Premiership with the team they have now. Gould came out and said he wanted a coach that could take them there during that period. If that's the case, then Bennett is the man, not Cleary. We may have this all wrong.

Next winter is coming - the funny thing is i think this episode is going to turn a lot of people off league - not the hardened long term supporters but those who enjoy watching a game without really following anyone. The fact that this just started out with Gould and his ego then embroiled us and now the media are saying Brisbane and Saints can be included. And where is the NRL's response to all this. They are Mordor - destroying all in their sight.

If you eliminate, just for a moment, the extraneous noise involving Nathan, Gould etc there are three possibilities for Ivan's future.
A. He seeks a release for 2019 and it is granted after WT put Penrith through the wringer
B. WT offer an extended contract to Ivan which he accepts
C. He sees out his contract and goes to Penrith in 2021.

The question is which of the three are the best option for WT. Option B is my preference despite some misgivings about Ivan's complicity in this whole sorry saga. To me option C is the worst because it puts our club in limbo for two years before getting a new coach who can move us forward. Option A is the next best after B because we at least get some compensation from Penrith and we secure the best coach available to us and continue the rebuild Ivan has started. My fear, if Ivan stays for two years knowing he's off to Penrith, is that we stagnate and fail to attract the quality players we so desperately need.

Yep agree. Extended contract would keep me very happy.
And not fizzed if Nathan signed by Panthers.

No extension - he sees out his contract - we don't go near his whiny son with a 10ft pole. In 2021 Penrith can have the rednecks while duelling banjos play in the background and pigs are squealing.

A for me.

Come on everyone, there is a possibility the club is working on a deal to keep and extend Ivan. Remember this has taken all in the club by surprise and all actions to date have been reactive. Putting a deal together takes time. Let's wait and see before condemning the man.

That's cute

I don’t see how offering an extension when he’s only a tick over 12 months into his current deal and over 2 years left will solve any issues. A pay rise maybe, as tigers for him at a decent rate. But an extension when he has 2.5 years left makes little sense at this point

Gould is full of it
Just seen him talk on TV

Said Ivan was going to talk to tigers about his long term future at the tigers after Ivan had a meeting at Penrith
That is why he had no option but to inform Griffin that he was not required at the club next year
Why would he have told Griffin that if Cleary intended to see out his contract here with us

Now if Cleary has two years to run and Griffin has two years to run why sack him
Gould expects Cleary next year

Gould told about 10 lies in 2 minutes then.

If the Lie detector device was on him it would have blown up.

Bloke has had a hard week.

It’s pretty clear to me Cleary wants to coach his son and he wants to stay at the Panthers.
It will happen in 2 years.

We should Grimm Hodgo or another young coach to take over. Cleary is still the best man to build this squad and keep the team together.

How could that work?

Difficult to recruit players

Every time we lost a match it would be toxic with supporters.

Ivan has downed tools etc etc

I think the only outcome here is he extends with us or he will be at Penrith next year and we hopefully get something out of it.

I know it’s old fashioned but I can understand the mentality Manly and Canterbury like to adopt - the coach comes from one of their own.

If it's true, you've got to wonder about a team that is prepared to tread water for 2+ years with a caretaker coach while they wait for a bloke whose main appeal seems to be he's related to their halfback. If we were advocating this we'd be despairing about how dumb our board is.

Anyway if this is how it plays out I'd say keep IC and get a football manager to handle recruitment.
