I’d be happy with this as long as the goal isn’t to smash and grab a premiership. We don’t want to end up in a situation like Newcastle.

They will win what ? They appoint a coach (who was considered not good enough 3 years ago) because they want to retain his son - now that makes sense.

I don't agree. You said they will win. I assume you mean that they will win the Cleary's signatures. If that is a victory, it is a pyrrhic victory at best. Pyrrhic because, contrary to your claim that no one will care, there are plenty of people who do care. Just read through this thread and other NRL related threads on other sites. The Panthers are under fire from all quarters (eg Griffin has come out and called Gus a liar, while Go has called their behaviour unethical). The Panthers (Gould) have moved into damage control. They may ultimately win the signatures, but their reputation has taken a big hit.

If Cleary does move to Penrith in 2019, Gould has to hope he wins them a premiership, given the damage he has done to the Penrith brand.

Reputations dont count for much in Rugby League, There is some members of the public and supporters of different clubs, who think we are being hard done by, and probably a lot more, who'se only thoughts are relief, that this time its not their club thats in the firing line .
The Dogs would have as much sympathy for us, as we did earlier in the year for them.
When Souths were at the lower end last year we gloated our little claws off,
Same with the Roosters.
The general public hardly give a toss whether Wts Coach is going or staying.
We're the only ones that really do.
I will be extremely amazed , if even one sponsor would drop a sponsorship to Penrith over this, and theres no reason that they should.
The same applies to ours.
Within 6 months its likely that theres been 3 or 4 stouches as big or bigger than this one between clubs ,
And we will be on the sidelines thinking , Great its not us!!

What’s so sensational about that? It’s not a secret Bennett is on borrowed time.
 
Cant believe everyone is carrying on like we are losing a super coach please he has a record of about 45% cant be that hard to replace.

Its just that he has us playing so much more consistently than in previous years. Thats the sign of a good coach. Fact he has a history of rebuilding clubs makes a 45% win rate seem ok.

I tend to agree. He's doing an okay job at best.
 
Why are people stressing - i think its laughable that Unca will go to Penrith - hope he does - Him and Gould together - so much fun.
 
For goodness sake ….. can everyone just calm down and stop being hysterical.
We are all being led around by the media shock jockeys and swallowing every word being reported about all this.
It’s becoming obvious that that most hints are just plain lies and half truths. And Panthers are playing hardball.
Let things just play out and then make your final judgements.
For me there are only two outcomes tyed to one’d decision by Cleary..... extend by two years and stay or not and leave.
Anything else is unworkable for both parties.
 
I don't want Ivan or his apron tugging son anywhere near this club after 2020 - but I want Ivan to honour his contract and Gus Gould to be shown what a buffoon he really is.
 
A friend who is normally pretty good with this stuff reckons-

Gould and Bennett to team up at the Dragons in 2019.

Cleary then to Penrith (no doubt a payout to us negotiated).

Tigers searching for new coach.
 
you guys realise that the Panthers probably just got out of paying us compensation?

By saying he will sign for 2021, means it puts us almost in a position we HAVE to let him go and there will be no compensation required.
