Ivan Cleary - THREAD..

The fact he met with Penrith and now there’s a four year deal on the table doesn’t look good for us.
If he goes we’re back to square one, a rabble.

Our club is already a rabble 6 home grounds , an average roster at best ,basically nil recruitment for next season , bad facilities the list goes on ..yes a basket case and an organisation crying out for a real leader to plot a real course for success not dwell in the past with spineless decisions scared of upsetting some . Cleary has stated that the club needs one home ground and better facilities maybe he has been told that it is not happening , so he sees no future and he would not be alone with that one.

What I find weird about all this is that the narrative for the last 8 months has been about how the Clearys are still upset about the way Ivan was cut by Penrith, and that's as much why Nathan was a good chance of playing with his Dad at Tigers.

Gould says he's cool with Nathan wanting to play for his Dad, and according to the papers it reaches tipping point that the coach (Hook) goes as last play to keep the players happy.

Bearing in mind dropping the coach for player power is a big reason for the "basket-case" drama Tigers have had for the last 6 years.

But that narrative about the Clearys being upset at Penrith - suddenly the papers wipe that under the table because some Penrith dude who isn't Phil Gould has reportedly approached Cleary.

And as I understand, coaches are not subject to anti-tampering, so you can offer any coach a deal at any time - no biggie there.

But what argument is there towards why Ivan would be considering this? Not getting into his head or trying to figure out "what kind of man he is", but what could possibly make a person return to their old employer who unceremoniously fired them a couple of years ago. Remember that because of the Penrith move, Ivan was without a regular gig for a few seasons and before Tigers may not necessarily have returned to the coaching fold at all.

Also as I understand Tigers don't have to release Cleary, but then it begs the question do you really want to keep a coach who wants out? That cannot be a good situation.

Certainly keeping people on their toes. Ivan would be Wests Tigers public enemy #1 if he left… it would certainly push Slimy Fart to #2 for a while.

And then Wayne Bennett being on the outer at Brisbane and Seibold possibly making a move... interesting times. A club is going to miss out somewhere.

Big presser today for Cleary, he will have to have something substantial to say.

I would not be surprised at all if we see Ivan Cleary emerge from all this with a contract extension from the Tigers.

I'm going to be an optimist.

The meeting he had was informal and out of respect to a former colleague who was driving a move at Penrith to get Ivan back. Ivan not interested.
It comes out that Gus has sacked Hook, and to be open and honest, Ivan pays the WT board the courtesy of letting them know he did meet with said former colleague and declined their offer - rather than the media breaking the news.
Board once again tells Ivan they want him at the club, are happy to talk about extension if that's an issue.

Now we just need Ivan to come out and say he's staying…

I like that scenario, i'm sticking with it until proven otherwise.

We were in contention for the 8 and he's running around having meetings with Penrith board members.

It's disgusting. No wonder the players turned it up against the Dogs.

I reckon Gould might try and get him to come back.

He wants to coach his son. Gus gets to keep his Origin halfback.

I wouldn't bet against it.

Not saying he would but can a coach simply walk out if he gets a better offer?

No, they can't just walk out…I also can't see a proud man going back to work for a bloke that sacked him. I'd give it zero chance of happening.

REMEMBER = Phil Gould Booted Ivan from Penrith

If Ivan doesn't want to be here then let him go as soon as possible and get a actual coach who wants to be with the team in the long term.

Gould has publicly come out today and said he may have made a mistake in sacking Cleary….

Personally I don't think that he will leave. However, I will enjoy watching the head explosions over the next couple of weeks.

:righton:

Boom,Boom,Boom. I love it.

:roll

Col are you answering yourself mate ? And yes we can all have head explosions that is what makes life interesting reading and watching people’s reactions no matter how odd.

Guys.

Calm the heck down.

Gus is after Barrett, not Cleary.

Sees him as a old head on young shoulders who will work within what Gus is trying to put together.

The media are beating this up. Brent Read is desperately trying to stay relevant and get his head back on TV.

Gus is too proud to have Cleary back in the fold, and Cleary is old school enough to stick to his deal with the Tigers.

Spoke to a mate who is at the Roosters.

The talk over there is that Gus is pretty confident Ivan will be at the Panthers next year. However it isn't a done deal but expect an announcement tomorrow.

Talk is the trigger was pulled on Hook earlier then it was meant to. Was going to see out this season and get the boot in the off season.

Apparently a few senior players not happy with Hook and with contracts on the line Gus and the board went earlier then expected on sacking him.

He was saying Gus is a smart operator and wouldn't have sacked Griffin if he didn't have something lined up.

Not looking good for us.

Money Talks

Money, resources, happy family and opportunity for his son to forge a long successful career - if Ivan turns that down then that would be the most shocking outcome.
Ruthless act by Gus in more ways than one.
New board new coach please.

Only thing I'm taking out of this is that Nathan will be a Tiger

Let's be real there's next to zero chance Ivan goes back to the club who sacked him for basically lacking the mindset and it's clear Ivan wasn't too happy about Gould going public with it ….. we gave him a lifeline and he knows that we also gave him full control something he knows he won't get at Penrith (Gould will always run it) - it isn't his character for him to opt out of a contract - let alone go to Penrith

What it does speak volume for that they're in panic mode... if they were comfortable that Nathan was committed to Penrith they wouldn't be looking at his dad they'd go out and try get an off-contract Seiboud or maybe Bennet but they have to swallow there pride and offer a coach a deal they sacked not long ago cause they know that's there only chance of keeping Nathan

My prediction - Ivan comes out and declares he has no interest in leaving in a presser today!

Nathan arrives in 2019 or 2020

Penrith get Barret
