Ivan Cleary - THREAD..

Talk on NRL360 that Ivan was called into Panthers for Nathan last fortnight. Meeting was called re: how to accomodate Nathan’s development. Panthers offered deal from 2021 onwards yet Ivan said sooner rather than later - so suggested next year.
Justin Pascoe speaking now.

If true he is the biggest scum bag of all time. Hope he goes back to Penrith and gets fired again.

Pascoe just said Ivan Cleary has not asked for a release but is aware he has had talks with Penrith. Pascoe said if he does it will be denied and they will fight to keep him and isn't a fan of Gould.

Pasco is in damage control.

Im resigned to the fact Ivan Cleary has made up his mind and will join Penrith.

My reasoning is that he met up with them 2 weeks ago and was presented with an offer. He reported this to the Wests Tigers. Yesterday Phil Gould sacks Griffin and is on record as saying they decided yesterday that Griffin would not be the coach going forward.

Have a good think about that.

They cant have decided yesterday that Griffin wasnt going to be the coach going forward. Thats a lie. They would not have offered Cleary his deal if they hadnt already made up their mind about Griffin!

Gould has been caught in a lie here.

IMO yesterday wasnt the day that they decided to move on Griffin, yesterday was the day Ivan Cleary gave them their answer.

Maybe Monday he gave them his answer, because thats when he informed the board of his meeting

Gus?
Lies?
NO?!?!?!? LOL

Is that true?

Did Ivan only inform the Wests Board this monday?

Yes, Mon 5th…approx two weeks after his meeting with Penrith officials

Like i said im resigned to the fact he is gone. This is just another confirmation.

What are the terms of his contract, does he have a get out clause. I would be telling him he is staying and then appoint an assistant to basically run the show and work with the recruitment area.

We need $$$ and the centre of excellence, we are currently the bottom rung of NRL clubs

If tigers let ivan go that easily before his current contract is up then my 45 years of supporting this club will come to an end
It's a big call but that's how I feel
The entire board needs to be sacked if he leaves early
Or I am sure many of us would just walk after this farcical
I dont understand why Ivan is in hiding today
It was the Tigers that opened the door and welcomed ivan back in to coaching in the NRL
It was Gus that sacked him

SHOW SOME RESPECT TO YOUR SUPPORTERS AT THIS CLUB AND END THE SPECULATION NOW

I was glad to see Pascoes comments. Pretty strong.

However lets see if they back it up.

I think Ivan wants to go. So the less said about him the better.

We either keep Cleary.

Or if Cleary goes we get good players from Penrith and money compensation.

If we roll over ill give it away.

Cue Matty Johns ripping into gus Gould. If he hasn’t already done so on his morning show (I am overseas) I think Matty is the only person who wouldn’t back down from Gus.

This is embarrassing from Cleary Snr im ashamed to have my username as his name have to change that I guess

Maybe the silence from Ivan and West’s are because the finer points of his exit are being negotiated, cant be any other reason that us long suffering fans are still in the dark.

Yep - the silence is deafening.

I reckon if he asked for a release he would get one, the same way teams release players that don't want to be here. They can become destabilising, Go and Pascoe's statements can be looked at one of two ways. They can be doing it simply to say to the fans we did what we could but didn't want drama to infiltrate the playing group, or it could be a non story and they are saying it like it is.
I would like to think Ivan is a man of his words and principal but I have a funny feeling Gould will get his way, and we'll be left with the house half built.

Disagree. It sends a message that we can be leaned on and we will crack. Proper clubs when asked to release people important to their success say no and expect the people to act professionally and get on with the job they were hired to do. Our reaction to things like the Kahu and Taupau situations are why someone like Gus thinks we're here for his shopping needs.

So we save face externally, but are stuck with a coach whos heart isnt in it.
Then what?

You expect him to get over it and do his job. Players get turned down for releases regularly and only your Mitchell Moses types don't react professionally. I just think if we roll here we just forget about keeping anyone half decent. First sign of pressure from a big club we will release them. It's about the image we project. I doubt other clubs bother to ask Melbourne or Brisbane to release first graders.

What are you hearing fellow coastie, have you heard a release has been requested ?

Message willow or Geo and they should be able to change it for you, if that's what you want.

They need to back it up - its not just about keeping him - its about stopping irreparable damage to the Tiger brand. What sponsor would want to be associated with WT after this fiasco? How many of the 20k members will sign up next year knowing that they support a club with no guts that rolls over when the bigger clubs say so. They have to take a stand. And if Ivan walks and breaks his contract they have to have to go hard and all involved - no settlements or compensation - full on legal action.

The same Ivan Cleary who left the Warriors mid contract. Stop romancing what a wonderful person he is. He'll what's best for his family, not us.

I don't really think behaving in a grossly dishonourable fashion would be good for his family.

That’s a matter of opinion,

If the club decided an any time in the length of Cleary,s contract , that they didn’t want him any more, they’d have no hesitation in cutting him immediately .
And what did we do to Potter, Farah, and the Anti Coach, when they decided that they
didn’t want them?.?

Broken contracts everwhere.
Even the great honourable Bennett reneged on his word about going to East

It’s happening all the time especially involving players.
Why kick up so much noise about Ivan doing the same thing ( allegedly)
Some could look at it as just Karma

Purely because it’s us. Other wise it wouldn’t get more than a couple of pages here.

Well that's really just you trying to justify dishonourable conduct on the basis that other people have acted dishonourably. It doesn't change the fact that he would have to make the personal decision to act dishonourably. We all face those choices and some of choose to do the right thing rather look for justifications to do the wrong thing.

No !!!.
Its me being realistic, not trying to justify anything.
Just[pointing out facts.
Some of which are uncomfortable to you, as you would prefer to keep the fairytale that we'd never act in a similar way.
These are football clubs we are talking about, not Sunday Schools.

They , and those who run them,(including ours) would sell their grandmothers down the river, if they could get an advantage from it,
just because its our club on the end this time, some think its terrible, but if it was any other club in the line of fire we'd be celebrating their misfortune.

“Ivan wants to go back to Penrith next year,” Kent said.

Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe responded by denying Cleary was seeking a release to move back to Penrith.

“Our position is very clear that Ivan Cleary is contracted with us for another two years and we expect him to be with us,” Pascoe told NRL 360.

“Ivan Cleary or his management have not asked for a release and if they do we will not be granting a release.”
