Ivan Cleary - THREAD..

Pascoe has made it clear that Ivan is not going anywhere.

Subtext: if he does, it's in breach of contract and will dogg him for years to come, possibly ending with half his new contract coming to Wests Tigers.

(I think he stays)

Everyone needs to Chill, all of these journo's are the same, if you dont get the facts, make some shit up. lets let the Tigers / Ivan make a statement, and then we can react to that. So far every coach, every assistant coach, and my mother in law have been linked to the Panthers job

Surely we have offered to match the contract that Penriff are offering to Ivan?? Then offer Nathan a contract … then we can go to Penriff say ... take that you bludgers. If we lose Ivan, wow it will create the biggest and ugliest rivalry between two clubs in the competition .. !!

Josh Reynolds revealed tonight on NRL360 that the players had the day off today.
Now, if Ivan waited for the joint to be empty before disclosing to Pasco the meeting with the Panthers weeks ago and subsequent offer from the panthers since then he is as gutless as it gets.

We would have sacked Ivan sooner or later anyhow. We've sacked plenty so can't whinge if one wants to quit.

I think this situation is fairly unique coaching wise to be fair. Coaches have been getting sacked everywhere since day dot.

Anyway we should show some strength.

If Ivan wants to go then we need to demand players from Penrith.

And Ivan can take some plodders with him to Penrith.

Not holding my breath though.

Reading between the lines on Pascoe's comments Ivan asked for a release yesterday. Great that we are saying No, but how are players going to show commitment to a coach that wanted to walk out on them.

I'm a West Tiger and Rugby League Fan just?
But this crap which Gould has designed is ishhh
I may need to follow a new code
Are the WEST TIGER DAYS OVER????????

Strong words need to be supported by strong actions. He needs to be smart and realise if he stands his ground, the reward will be to make a big play for Nathan. If Ivan and Nathan have it set in stone they are playing together, we can make it happen a year earlier than Penrith can. Giving up Ivan also means giving up the chance to lure Nathan. I would hope Pascoe realises that.

That’s just a cop out

Why's that? Clubs punt players and coaches that have contracts all the time. Why are the clubs the only ones that can act this way?

Loved that recorded message from Pascoe. What a champion. I would be more worried if he left than Ivan.

Good on you Pascoe.

On record, clear, no soft words “we will not release Ivan”

Strong words from Pascoe. All but confirming Ivan wants out but the club just cant let him walk.

Update from Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe.

Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe has provided the following update for Members and fans.

Q. Justin, it has been a big 24 hours in NRL coaching circles. Can you give us an update where things are at with Westts Tigers and Ivan Cleary?

A. Sure. So Ivan Cleary came to me late yesterday [Monday] afternoon and informed me in a discussion that he had been approached by Penrith — that they were keen to get him to go out there and coach. We had a really open and frank discussion around that. Since then, we met with Ivan this morning and we were very adamant in that meeting that there is really no option other than to continue on as Head Coach of the Wests Tigers. Certainly, we engaged in a contract nearly 18 months ago now under good faith and we expect that contract uploads and continues on.

\
\
Q. So if Ivan does ask for a release, will the club grant that release?

A. No. As we expressed to Ivan this morning, the position of the club — and it's a really strong position — is that the club is going to fight for this. Under no circumstances will we be granting Ivan Cleary a release. He has got a contract with this club until 2020, we're building something special here and we want that to continue.
\
\
\
Q. Why wouldn't the club grant him a release?

A. Because we're not going to be pushed aside or bullied or railroaded by anyone. This club, and myself, have to make decisions that are in the best interests of the Wests Tigers and, first and foremost, our fans, our Members and our stakeholders. Giving our Head Coach to a rival club is not a decision that is in the best interest of the fans or stakeholders.
\
\
\
Q. It's been an uncertain day for Wests Tigers Members and fans. Do you have a message for them?

A. I'm really disappointed that they've had to go through all the speculation. I'm bitterly disappointed that a rival club has decided that it's appropriate practice to try and poach a coach with two-and-a-half years left on his contract. My message is very simple: Ivan has been a terrific coach, he has shown great character in what we're trying to build here and we are going to fight tooth and nail. This is a really strong, proud club with a lot of rich history and it's a very different club than what it was previously. We're not going to let anyone come in and just poach our Coach without a fight and we're going to fight tooth and nail to keep Ivan. We're not going to release him. The club is a really proud club, as I said, and we're in a strong position to fight this all the way.

After listening to Pascoe multiple times, im am feeling that IC asked for a release and was denied. Pascoe continues to impress me.

Wow…..we are buggered.

First of all, well done Justin Pascoe, stick to your guns.

Ivan is gone.

Im sure Pascoe is telling the truth saying that Ivan has not asked (formally) for a release but the mere fact that he said that the two of the had an "open and frank" conversation and that Pascoe on behalf of the board had to come back the next day to tell him he would not be granted a release, and that we will "fight tooth and nail all the way" clearly means Cleary told him he wants to go.

How the hell can Cleary front Matulino, Mbye, Thompson, Kev (told to leave), Packer, Reynolds in the face at training?

Tough times ahead.
