Ivan Cleary - THREAD..

So what would we all say if iC and JP have a conference today to say they’ve extended his contract another 2 years?
Would we all say that he’s still shifty and not trust what he’s doing?
There’s allegedly a good chance he was blindsided by this offer from Penrith, and like any person core values or not he would naturally think them over, it would only be human not to.
Hopefully today this is all put to bed one way or the other and we can all move forward….
1 Cleary stays and everything keeps on moving, albeit with NC coming soon
2 Cleary goes, someone like a Maguire comes in and galvanizes everything and we become stronger....

Until Brisbane or Melbourne decides they want Madge as coach and he bolts and we're back to square one. Until he stand up to the bullies history will keep repeating.

Spot on Yoss…
At some stage some time, a rightful stand has to be made. The thought of doing the right thing is something foreign to the NRL and the "bigger" clubs but enough is enough

What does Ivan say to his player's at training?
Can he actually look them all in the eye and say his still driving the Bus or continues acting like nothing has occurred.

His a piece of ….....

While theres nothing funny in this situation for Fans, or anyone for that matter
I am amazed at the indignation of the club about anyone breaking a contract, its a bit of Pot calling the Kettle.

YES ! There was a settlement in these cases, and if all this is true, there will be in this as well
But Wts cant get on their high horse , and berate anyone else who'se ethics are no different to theirs.

After this settles a bit, a settlement will be reached and life will go on.
Football clubs have the ethics of an alley cat, and we are nieve if we think otherwise,
if it was them who decided to cut Ivan, for any reason, he'd be gone ,

If it wasnt for the fact that it is us involved, a lot here here, would be crowing loudly, much as we were when it was The Dogs
that were imploding earlier this year,
the club will talk tough for a while and a settlement will be reached
just another episode of the Drama that happens all the often in Rugby League

Ive said a few times that this deal if it happens sucks for everyone except Penrith. I think ultimately it will be bad for Ivan Cleary. Ok of course in the short term (next two years) he will have the chance to coach a top level roster, on double the money and coach his son. But he strikes me as someone who considers themselves a career coach. If things dont end up in premiership glory at Penrith, his career will always have this situation as a bold asterisk next to his name and surely it would impact his appeal at a club other than Penrith.

Its high risk for Ivan when as a long term view he could have been in the same place in two years with his reputation intact.

Forget player swaps .. money only thank you enough to sign a top notch coach for minimum 3 yrs with his staff. Player swaps are for pussys.

Agree, money only. I think there might be a possibility we were getting a player or two from Penrith anyway, as after upgrades, they have to stay under the cap. Is it just me or is Gould trying to emulate Nick Politis?

this is how i think it went down, read stated Nathan was coming to the tigers to play with his dad, so Gould puts on his thinking cap and comes up with the idea lets sack are coach and offer ivan the job thus we keep nathan. gould figures we can out pay the tigers are roster is better ivan will ask for a release the tigers have no balls they will roll over lifes all good at the foot of the mountains.so the tigers need to be very tough with penrith either u give us 3-4 players of are choice and u fund 1/2 of there salary or u go ****** .AND IVAN STAYS.

The scarecrow had more balls than Ivan !

Pay out Ivan’s contract - plus an additional 500k each year

And we take Fisher-Harris and Waqa Blake

And then I’ll be happy with it - thanks Penrith

I heard someone say RCG and 420k but that's probably a joke.

To echo what others have said, this ends one of two ways

1\. He gets released with massive compensation given to us

2\. He extends his contract for 2 more years, equalling the length offered by Penrith. Though, probably equal monetarily.

I can live with either.

Any chance Ivan backs down and simply goes about fulfilling his current contract?

The only way he will redeem himself is if he extends another 2 years on top of his current deal with us , cause even if the Club play's hardball and make him see out his current deal well his going in 2 year's anyway and then what happens with our recruitment the next 2 year's?

There are a million ways this could have gone down but my suggestion is that it possibly could have gone like this.

Ivan Cleary as stated goes to a meeting with Penrith about his son Nathan. During that meeting and with coaching uncertainty, Cleary asks who will be the coach? Penrith response at this time is 'we don't know but would you be interested in returning'? Cleary says I'm contracted with WT, but I'll never say never. Penrith says let's go to Gus Gould and see what he thinks. At this point in time there is no offer made, the meeting is iver and so there is nothing to tell the West Tigers. I wouldn't tell my employer either. Nothing has happened!

When the actual sacking of Griffin occurs Nathan Cleary then goes straight to Pascoe and says mate just letting you know that I speak to Penrith last week and the coaching came up in the conversation. Pascoe asks how far did discussions go? Cleary correctly replies that it was raised, but there was no offer.

Pascoe goes straight to the board and says there is potential for a coaching offer for Cleary, what would happen if he wanted to go? at which time it was decided vehemently that there would be no release.

The media then chase up on the potential for Cleary and even as early as the next morning, no offer had been made to Cleary. But in fact one was made later in the day.

Clearly is considering the offer, as we all would and should. None of us know what is in the offer and it might be absolutely too good to refuse.

Pascoe confirms with the media that a release will not be granted and at the same time Cleary is considering the offer and his options.

I personally don't have a problem with the above if it happened that way. I also don't have a problem if Cleary comes out today or tomorrow and says he considered an offer to return to Penrith and coach his son but he decided he would like to finish his work at the Tigers.

There is so much going around in the media they can't be trusted. 3 weeks ago Cleary and his son were at the Roosters next year. 2 weeks ago Cleary and his son were at the Brisbane Broncos next year. Last week Cleary and his son were at West Tigers next year. The media are changing their stories every week and I wouldn't believe too much of what any of them say.

And as for being sick of hearing about his son, Cleary has never raised that in the media. There is a fascination and the questions come to him from the media constantly. What is he supposed to say? He gives an honest answer and people crucify him. I think it's actually refreshing.

Always the possibility he's stringing Penrith along, but to what end? To get an extension here? Seems unlikely.

The question remains, as to whether , Ivan knows what talent is likely to be lured to us next season , and it may not look pretty,
Money is only usefull if someone wants to come here, look what we have got for our money this season, hardly top shelf (except Farah), we'd be better off getting a couple of Penriths up and coming young guys,
Moneys not going to help if players still dont want to come here
