Ivan Cleary - THREAD..

There is no way the club should extend Cleary. I’ve been a fan but was willing to give him leeway in his first year. We most likely don’t play finals this year. What if we don’t make finals next year and we now have him for 4 years. He has shown himself to have little integrity and if the club wasn’t playing hardball he would have walked out on us on Monday. So do we really want someone like that coaching our team? I know I don’t. Only here because his lawyer told him he has to be. Get as much compensation out of the panthers and move on. Ivan is now on his own bus heading up the m4 and good riddance.

He has shown himself to have little integrity …... Really? no clear evidence on that ....Jury still out.

There is no way the club should extend Cleary. ..... Maybe yes and maybe no. Depends how the final story pans out.

I’ve been a fan but was willing to give him leeway in his first year. ..... you haven’t given him much leeway that I can see.

We most likely don’t play finals this year. ...... first thing you said that you may be right on.

What if we don’t make finals next year and we now have him for 4 years. ........What is that all about? We probably will not with any other coach.

If the club wasn’t playing hardball he would have walked out on us on Monday. ..... Really? Source?

So do we really want someone like that coaching our team? ......... Yes because he is one of the best NRL coaches around.

I don’t. ...... OK but many others would.

Only here because his lawyer told him he has to be. ......... Really? source?

Get as much compensation out of the panthers and move on....... unlikely to happen. Panthers are a smart bunch who rely on lots of fake news which some people are all to eager to swallow.

Ivan is now on his own bus heading up the m4 and good riddance........ Really? I just today saw the bus parked at Concord. Getting ready for the journey to Canberra.

You don't extend his contract because of this. That's just stupid, reactionary thinking. You extend someone based on performance or results.

This is a very special situation. LOYALTY and COMMITMENT Litmus Test for our Ivan.
You are not going to tell me he can’t coach?

Seriously what is the reaction going to be if we get pumped on Sunday and we have not heard didly poo out of Ivan.

It will be pretty vitriolic and with some justification (at this point) .

We may well come out and have a great win.

However he is putting plenty of pressure on himself here.

There is now plenty riding on this game with Brisbane losing.

Giving him 2 more years won't prove his loyalty. We extended Sheens contact because Penrith showed since interest aswell.
It's nonsense.

But It's all BS it hasn't come from Ivan's mouth lol

It may all prove to be factual and we are all then entitled to nail Mr Cleary to the cross.
But to hang my hat on what Daily Telegraph's Dean Ritchie’s of this world tell me …... please!

<big>**Cleary reunion can only happen at Concord, says Tigers chair**</big>

https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/cleary-reunion-can-only-happen-at-concord-says-tigers-chair-20180809-p4zwkf.html

**W**ests Tigers chair Marina Go is adamant that her club is the only place a Cleary family reunion can take place within the next two years, putting the onus back on the Panthers to honour their promise to release their gun halfback if he wants to be coached by his father.

The declaration came as Ivan Cleary’s former teammate and brother-in-law Josh Stuart predicted the coach wouldn’t return to Penrith while Phil Gould remained in charge of the club.

The Panthers have attempted to prise Cleary snr from the Tigers despite the fact he has two years remaining on his contract. He has made no secret of his desire to coach his son, Nathan, who has a year to run on his Panthers contract.

Gould has publicly stated he has no intention of standing in the way of the pair fulfilling their ambition of working together, leading many to believe the Clearys could reunite at the Tigers. However, the sacking of Panthers coach Anthony Griffin - and the pursuit of Ivan Cleary as his replacement - has the potential to make that happen at the foot of the mountains.

The Tigers have reiterated their position that Ivan Cleary is going nowhere before his contract expires, with Go stating the joint-venture outfit is the only place they can work together during that period.

“If [the Panthers] are keen to reunite the coach and son, the only place that could happen over the next two years is at our club,” Go told Fairfax Media.

“If they want that to happen in the next two years, it won’t happen at their club.”

In an interview on NRL360, Griffin painted a picture of Gould as a domineering figure who undermined his attempts to coach the team. While Go wouldn’t comment on another club’s affairs, she said the Tigers provided Cleary with full autonomy when it came to coaching philosophy and recruitment - including if he wanted to sign his son.

“We have a culture where our coach is empowered to build the list he believes will get us to the grand final,” Go said.

“We acknowledge that at times we do it a little bit differently at our club. We’ve been building something very strong and that’s because we’ve basically said ‘here is the salary cap, you need to be compliant, but otherwise it’s up to you’.

“A lot of coaches in the past have said they didn’t have the players they wanted as an excuse for not winning.

“Good cultures remove the excuses and we certainly have.”

The Panthers feel they are close to securing the services of Nathan Cleary on an extended deal, a move that would thwart the Tigers’ hopes of having the star duo on their books. Whether Cleary snr would ask for a release to join him remains to be seen but Stuart, his brother-in-law, believes that won’t happen while Gould - who sacked Cleary three years ago - runs the Panthers.

“I couldn’t see Ivan going back there while Gus is there,” Stuart said.

“That’s just an opinion. Ivan was gutted [over his sacking]. The way Gus handles things - I don’t want to be seen putting shit on anyone - but he was saying Ivan looked tired and needed a year off. That was the way he tried to sack him. What’s coming out now with Anthony Griffin … he’s a control freak.

“I honestly don’t think Ivan will break a contract. He’s that tight with [Tigers chief executive] Justin Pascoe, I’ve seen it first-hand when I’ve travelled to games.

“They are friends as well as having a business relationship.”

Ivan Cleary is yet to speak publicly about Penrith’s approach, telling the players on Wednesday he had yet to make a call on his future.

“I’m really proud of the way the club has responded to this particular issue,” Go said.

“Our fans and member have appreciated the way it’s been handled, so I don’t think it’s hurt the club.

“It doesn’t appear to have hurt the relationship with coach and players either.

“There’s a strong bond there and the players know he cares about them, he wants the best for them.

“He hasn’t asked for a release. As far as we’re concerned, it’s business as usual and we’re going to move on. That’s it.

“It’s in times of difficulty that the real strength of the club shines through. I’m really proud of the way the club has stood up this week.”

Thats a very positive article given the recent events.

Gives me a little hope.

Adrian is their man to create a mood article, might suggest that something has happened to make them a little optimistic.

So there you have it. Our position has remained rock solid all week. Penrith meanwhile seem to have a new idea every day.

Gould will say after they sign Bennett that Wayne was always their number one target. He will then publicly congratulate himself on doing a good job.

We can only hope! Surely we all deserve just a small piece of that positive Karma!

By the way ….... Karma, put simply, means “what goes around comes around.” If you give out good energy, it will come back full circle, and the same goes for negative energy. Many people live life on autopilot, not aware that their thoughts influence their realities.
They say that Much of the unrest we see in the world today is a direct result of people’s thoughts.

I appreciate our Club being Professional in how they have dealt with this thus far but when they finally realise that Ivan has acted dishonourably in line with his Contract commitments with the Tigers then they need to piss him off ASAP, i was Originally the thought of keeping him forcefully here but the reality is we are the ones putting ourselves 2 years behind and will hurt us more than it will hurt Penrith.
Try and get compensated as much as we can and move on at Seasons end , i don't blame the Club as they have done everything to support Ivan in giving him full control of the Club's affair .

Ivan has abused the trust that was given and has disrespected the Club , players , Sponsors , Members , fans.

Your a disgrace Ivan the sooner you go the better i will feel , the trust is broken there is no turning back from that…..you can remain silent all you like but there's enough there to suggest that you've made dealings with a rival Club while under Contract to us.

The water is getting muddy by the Day , go with your love child cause at the end of the Day you ain't no Bellamy and there's a reason why Gus sacked you in the 1st place cause you can't Coach team to Premierships , how romantic you and Gus deserve each other again .

Good riddance Ivan your done with me anyway .

One of the reporters on TV tonight said Penrith have thrown 1.6mpa+ at Ivan which is double what he is on with us.

I still think Ivan will stay but if he does I would rather he is extended if Nathan signs long term with Penrith so it forces Panthers to look elsewhere for a long term coach.

Regardless Ivan has had correspondence with Panthers and nutting out a deal with them .
Ivan is not talking to the Tigers about extending his future with us as he would of said so from the get go and shot down any possibility of him going to the Panthers straight away when Griffin got sacked and the media started with this all.
The truth will eventually come out .

Well Yoss and jirskyr it is possible to build a smokeless fire if you use very dry kindling and very dry hard wood. If you build your fire carefully and don't add too much fuel too quickly it can be done.
It is also possible to have a lot of smoke but no fire. In an enclosed space, with very little ingress of fresh air, a fire can be extinguished by a lack of oxygen leaving just the smoke behind.
Just for future information.

I said on another thread - also sometimes it's not smoke, it's fog, or mist, or dust, or dry ice.

"It is what it is" and "where there's smoke" are two of the dumbest cliches rolled out by players and fans alike when talking about rugby league.

You can have smoke without smoking. The only time I have smoked marijuana is when I refused a smoke by a beautiful girl 40 years ago. So she trickingly took a deep puff on marijuana fag and began kissing me whilst blowing it into my mouth - so then I was smoking although no fire in my mouth.

Mate I think you are listening to much to unconfirmed rumours. The only thing both sides have confirmed was Ivan was courted in a meeting that as far as Ivan knew had nothing to do with an offer from Panthers.

Reports are Panthers have thrown a ridiculous amount(1.6mpa+) at Cleary but he hasn't spoken about a release to the club and has advised Go he is happy at the club. If Ivan wanted to really hit back at Gould he would string him along for as long as possible while all this plays out as Gould reputation is diminishing by the hour.

I don't know what will happen. I know I would do some crazy stuff for 1.6m. Keep your head up we have a big game this weekend and all that matters is what is happening behind the four walls of our club.

1.6mil for Ivan and then they can sign Nathan for 400k. Its thinking outside the square.
