Ivan Cleary - THREAD..

Been reading all of this and the one thing that has and will happen is what Cleary has to SAY! Everything else is just noise he said she said ,facts is where the truth is.
IMO Cleary has been thrown under the bus by Penrith as there seems to be a power struggle happening there , he had a meeting with a friend at the club big deal ! Are we that naive coaches do not get expressions of interests all the time while contracted to clubs. Why was this even made public?
If Cleary wants out that is fine no drama a good time to walk as the club has time to find one of the very well credentialed coaches on the market it will come with a 2 million price a million a season . Penrith have the money and if the need is so great they will pay it .
I want to hear from Cleary as the rest is just noise! Just remember we are talking about a coach with a 45% win ratio let’s not get to carried away with the emotional reaction here.

Yeah, its getting beyond a joke.
Pretty disrespectful to WTs members to continue to say nothing
I dont care what Go & Pascoe have said, I appreciate what theyve said, but I want to hear and watch the body language of the man in question himself.
Any lame excuse for his silence such as he has game on Sunday to prepare his team for wont cut it.
He should make a statement today

I don't think he'll say anything, later based on the reasoning that he "wanted to be focused on a must-win game" and he didn't want to take attention away from that.

He needs to go. We have bent over backwards to give him everything and.spent a heap of money on players that have been questionable at best, and as soon as he gets another offer he listens - whether he has committed to Penrith next year or in two years is irrelevant - he is not committed to us and we are not his priority, or his families. We cant compete with what Nathan wants, and or the resources of what is on offer at the Panthers

Is he really worth us enforcing the contract just to spite Penrith at our own detriment?
Id rather go after Penrith and name our price and kick him out as soon as we can.

I was prepared to listen to him but I do believe he is a man who would struggle to be ingenuine and facing the media about his intentions and future with Tigers will put him in that predicament. His reluctance to speak - speaks volumes in itself.
Beyond disappointing but Penrith can have him as far as Im concerned and the sooner the better.

The mood is certainly changing as more and more people wake up to what it would be like to have this guy around for he next 2 years while his heart and future are at another club.

I said it yesterday it was check mate from Penrith, its a very clever move by them to sign him for 2021 and beyond. It puts us in a awkward situation.

We either release him and grab a McGuire as suggested or we roll one huge set of dice and keep him around for 2 years and work out some way that situation can be productive.

As others have said if he stays put a high profile coaching director over the top of him to take care of recruitment and the future pathways and just leave Nathans dad to coach the day to days.

Brian Fletcher's comments are unbelievable.

"We could wait a year and a half. It wouldn't worry us," Fletcher said.
>
""Knowing Ivan's qualities, he will honour the contract but, then again, Wests Tigers might think that if Ivan wants to coach his son and his son is going to play at Penrith, they might let him go.

So, according to them - they are willing to have a caretaker coach in Ciraldo stay on for the next 2 years while Cleary's contract plays out with us. Yet they believe they are in a so-called 'premiership-window' with their current squad. If they are to be believed, they are willing to potentially throw that away without an experienced coach for the next 2 seasons. And then say this:

"But that's up to them. We're not there to pinch Ivan off Wests Tigers."

Load of crap.

Pretty simple why we have not heard a word from the bus driver. I would imagine his legal advice is to say nothing. You would think a deal or a settlement is being put together behind the scenes. Everyone knows that sticking around for another two years will not work for us and the unwanted media attention will only harm our brand name

Three days too late, as he should have made a statement on Tuesday. Hell, we've even heard from his brother in law.

So you guys think that when Ivan had a meeting with the Panthers 2 weeks ago it was nothing to do with the possibility of him returning to the Panthers ?
So why did Ivan tell Pascoe and Go on Monday night just before the Griffin sacking ? could it be that the truth might come out that he did have a meeting with the Panthers ?

Anyway i have my views of how things have transpired you guys make your own mind up.

It MAY be very true or NOT ….. too early to call. All paper talk at present.
No doubt meeting took place but Cleary attended on understanding that it would be a private meeting with a long time friend Panthers chairman to discuss sale of his house. Then it turned into something else. What Cleary said about the contract offer, which followed is at dispute.
But really what would you do if you’re offered twice the money you’re getting now for 4 years and possibility to coach your son? No brainer you would think about it and discuss it with your family. No brainer. You would not run to you’re employer before you considered it properly. Griffin sacking forced his hand. Panthers manipulated the situation and destroyed the integrity and reputation of very good coach, man and father and also put a spear through West Tigers. They are at fault here as it seems there is a power play going on there and we and Cleary are the meat in the sandwich.

I think we can all agree that the NRL will let this play out, then step in AFTER Penrith get their man, and put in place an anti tampering rule for coaches. Kind of like the cripple fight in South Park where everyone stands back and watches Timmy and Jimmy beat the crap out of each other, then when their done, someone says “ok boys, that’s enough.” That’s the NRL.

All this talk of not knowing the facts, so we shouldn’t be too hard on Cleary ends with these quotes. Cleary here is guilty by association. If he really intended on not going anywhere, he’d retort to this, because his name would be getting dragged through the mud for no reason. He hasn’t responded because it’s true. Anyone at this point who doesn’t believe Cleary is up to his eye balls in this is in denial.

I love that comparison 😂

Club may have told him to say nothing , they may be looking at a deal with penrith for cash and a couple of players and our new coach could be suggesting who he wants from penrith , nobody Really knows but come monday I think we will know exactly what's going to happen , if he is released I think Maguire may get the job

This is a logical fallacy:
“Lack of evidence does not equate to evidence”

The situation is severely damaging to the WT and has been for days. Do you really think that the club would not have had Cleary in front of the media to state that he is staying if he was?

Well to be fair, No, I don't believe the club would trot their coach out to become media fodder in the midst of the frenzy. It's their job to wear the impact of the media and shield staff that have done no wrong.
Go on, keep sharpening your pitchfork.

No, it is their job to protect the club as a whole, including it's players, members and supporters. At footy training tonight it was the main topic of discussion and EVERYBODY had a similar opinion, that being, if Cleary is staying it should have been put to bed by him on Tuesday. Unless it comes from the mouths of the Penrith chair or Cleary, it is hearsay, even the statements from our CEO and chair.

You only have to look on here to see the effect that it is having and the current strategy Is utterly ridiculous if nothing is happening.

I agree that Management should be protecting the Club as a whole.
Many "FANS" have been totally absorbed by a bunch of media speculation and are ready to lynch the coach based on fluff. Some of those same "FANS" have forgotten that there is an important game this weekend. Given that the club has a commitment to try to make the finals, the best way management can look after the club is to ensure the coach can focus on his very important job. (By the way, this is something the Panthers seem to have forgotten.)
Therefore I disagree that they should push our coach out into the media spotlight just to satisfy people that jump at shadows.

We all are entitled to our conclusions on this matter.
I just find it rather strange that people are passing judgement before all the facts are known.
And critisizing Clearys reaction to the offer where they would very likely do the same thing. Consider the offer, discuss it with their family and only then advise their current employer.
Now if you would do anything different then you would be telling me there a fairies living at bottom of your garden.

If it was Broncos, storm or east it'd be different.

Think that may be how it plays out.
But my preference would be that he demonstrates long term commitment to the club by accepting 2 year extension to his contract. Then it’s back to normal business.
Only speculation but whatever approach is currently being taken by our club I believe that he has been told not to comment to the media until this thing is resolved. Him speaking on the subject can only do damage to whatever is being negotiated.
