Ivan Cleary - THREAD..

Obviously we don’t know what is going to happen.
The catalyst will be the N Cleary signing but the confirmation of an agreement can most likely be discussed once Panthers are out of the finals.
Paul Gallen makes a good point. In every comment he has mentioned his contract, as in it is his requirement. It doesn’t appear to be an emotional statement just one of fact.

How do we however know whether the club has something planned otherwise. We may already have Madge in line to start and plan on telling Ivan that before Preseason commences his free to go and look for another job?.
Being that Pascoe and Ivan are were supposedly good friends. Maybe that’s been arranged already.
I wouldn’t mind that.
I guess by Ivan stating that he intends to see out his contract, his making the option of moving him on after securing another coach a real legal battle.
His honouring his, so the club needs to as well.
His kind of got the club in tender hooks at the moment.
Say he does announce his going to sign with Panthers end of 2020 season and we think why wait? What legal right do we have to move him on just because it appears to be the smarter choice???
None.

Good point re the emotional statement, or lack thereof. I remember when Taylor dropped Farah, as unpopular as that was, he fronted up and faced the media, and was a sharp as a tack when pressed. No prepared statements. Not saying its a sign that he's gone, but reading from a prepared statement, in a monotone voice, then taking no questions isn't wearing his heart on his sleeve.

Knowing how the media operate…. I'd suggest taking emotion out of any responses to them is a smart move

Im not fussed if he goes he goes if he stays so be it... I'm not into body language or any of that other BS... time will tell

Yep. Could be a few reasons why he didn't initially front up. Could be a few reasons why he looks withdrawn at the moment.

Just need to let it play out now. The arguments are cyclic now, repeating the same old facts and opinions.

Penrith will have to make a call on their coaching position for 2019 in the next few weeks. That will put all this speculation to bed.

As for Cleary there is no doubt where he would prefer to be in 2019 and it is not at Concord, but he knows he has a legal binding contract that he will honour. Pascoe and the board now have to make the big call, do they hold IC to his contract or do they get someone who really wants the gig. If it was my call I would keep IC and spend the next two years finding a great replacement.

I don't think anything will be known until November with the drama queen's decision on who he has signed with. He cant have extended with Penrith yet otherwise they would have made an announcement leading in to the finals. I think if he extends with Penrith, which is the most likely outcome, we will release Ivan if he asks. I wouldn't be surprised that the different scenarios are already being discussed and sorted behind the scenes.

He's too smart of a guy to burn a bridge. Why would you turn down an offer from the panthers when the Tigers haven't got a counter on the table?

That's all it is. Ivan keeping his options open. Anyone else would do the same, particularly if the panthers were offering well above his current salary.

I do not understand Cleary has a contract for the next 2 seasons why would the club offer anything .. the team could get the next 2 wooden spoons , it is Clearys business if he wants to clarify things but in doing so would give clear water to all concerned .. the club should put this to bed ASAP.

I think thats an accurate guess as to what is happening. I dont care too much either way, as long as we are smart enough to have an informal chat with the likes of Mcguire if this is whats playing out behind closed doors.

At the end of the day we want a coach who is committed and focused on building this club. We have a lot of work still to do.

Absolutely. The club needs to keep their options open in the event he does want out, and should be safeguarding themselves against being left out in the cold and being desperate enough to take on someone like Barrett.

I'm talking about that the panthers deal was an open ended 4 year deal. So he's not going to say he's committed or anything to the tigers until they can match something. Whether that happens now or in a year is the question.

Tigers management are the only ones who can shut this down with a contract topup/extension. Or we can let him drift at his current salary, save some cash and make it more likely for him to jump to the panthers in 2021.

I say we need to top up his remaining 2 years and then offer him 2 more. He's shown enough this year for me to re-sign him.

Who's Breen…?

Neil Breen footy journo on 100% footy, also said Penrith will sign Cleary for 2021 if needed, but he believes the Wests Tigers won’t have a “lame duck coach for 2 years”.
Gus refused to deny or even answer question, at the end of segment he jokingly said you have a lot of conspiracy theories

x3 stability is needed.

Twitter suggesting tension in the air last night between pascoe and ivan. No mention of each other in speeches wives kept well away from each other.

I don't understand how people can be upset when they think Ivan has been talking to the Panthers whilst contracted with us but then in the same conversation say that we should be going after Madge!!

With how things get leaked in the NRL, how unprofessional would our club look if there were rumours about us talking to Madge when we have come out so strongly in response to the Panthers talking to Ivan?

No one thinks Ivan has spoken to the Panthers, he has spoken to the Panthers. I don't have an issue with that either. The only issue for me is Ivan enquiring about going next year, not in 2021\. Anyway, we've been over it and over it and over it. By Christmas this year we will know either way.
