Ivan Cleary - THREAD..

Whether or not you hold that his intentions were honourable, it was meeting with Penrith on the sly that was so un-cool. Come on!

If he cared about the club, the fans and his legacy here, surely he would have tried desperately to endear himself back to the fans - especially in the aftermath of the speculation and now that the season is over. He could easily say that "I will do my damn best to get this club to the finals" or " I love being here" or "please, I am the man for the job here and I am working bloody hard to get this team winning consistently" or (if we was being completely honourable) "I regret that I met with Penrith".

Such a bad look meeting with Penrith, it had consequences.
Who does he think he is that he can just read a statement that says "I intend to honour my contract"?
Where is his empathy? Who responds like that? It was cold-blooded!
No coach/motivator who has true intentions to stay and build a dynasty acts like this to the fans who adored him.

Well said bigsiro. I think he has been quite cold about this whole affair, which makes me wonder what his true motives are  I am not feeling that confident that he will stay at WT. He doesn't have the gleam in his eye anymore that he had when he first started at WT.
However we could all be wrong, but unless his heart is totally in being here, he should leave, and we will have to acquire yet another coach :brick:

Go back and see who started it with the less than 100 IQ comments.

before that it was just people offering up their opinions and a bit of debate.

Plenty of insinuation from people arguing both sides of the issue that the other are fools, almost from the inception of the topic.

Spot on, to say that there hasn't is just plain wrong.
I have no inside info, but from what I have seen and read does not fill me with confidence regarding Ivan's real intentions.
So I suppose I am seeing things that are not there, whilst wearing my tin foil hat and being dumber than the average forum member.
Whilst I like Ivan, and have no problem with the people who are comfortable with his responses to the issue.
Everyone has their own opinion, and that is to be expected, people will see things differently, so what pleases some will not please others.
This does not mean some are stupid because they don't agree with others.
Won't be long til we all know some answers, but we will probably never know the whole story, so we can only speculate.

The one word that really fits the Ivan situation as it is …...''.SPECULATION''....atm...no more no less...

That's fair enough. People are within their right to extrapolate from his demeanour and delayed response to squash the rumours. But for all we know the club may have gagged him and asked him to focus on preparing the team, and he's had the cats arse with the media since.

Cleary is not renowned for being an underhanded individual, so I am prepared to give him benefit of the doubt until he gives reason to think otherwise. Do I know anything that anyone else doesn't? No, but I won't call people fools for thinking otherwise. I will call out people trying to pass their opinion is fact though. Because none of us mugs know what is happening.

Hopefully it is all done and dusted shortly. I would like to see Ivan stay and finish what he started.

Beat me to it CQ.
From what I understand, Ivan meets with 'Penrith' 'on the sly' regularly. He has mates there. The only thing that made this particular 'sly' meeting so sly was that Ivan's great mate PG sacked Penrith's coach a week or so after Ivan's 'sly' meeting. The real message is, Ivan don't meet with your mates, ever.

Hopefully the message IC gets is, 'Don't trust Gus as he will manipulate you if he can'.
Even if IC wanted to go, after being treated so disrespectful by Gus, I don't see now how he now could go. Unless Gus stood down?

I cant see Gus standing down from the Panthers atm and even it he said he was, I wouldn't believe it for one second. Gus would still be in the background pulling the strings.

Seem to remember Woods suffering from a similar reaction after a catch up with good mates when Klemmers young child was sick in hospital.
Some saw it as no issue, others were appalled.
Their is a disparity between what expectations fans adopt when pledging loyalty to a club compared to players and coaches who have relationships with people across all clubs.

Exactly cq - they are good friends meeting up for a cafe'.

Suddenly it became he met up with Penfiff!

The whole thing is ridiculous and I think he is doing the right thing in not answering anymore questions about it.

That's because he is a "fibber"

Ivan could have put this whole saga to bed weeks ago by actually answering a few questions at his press conference instead of reading out a 30 second prepared statement.

It let the media to come up with their own interpretation of events and ever since than IC has being playing the victim. The trouble is nobody other than Ivan seem to know what is bugging him.

Anyway one thing he has said, is he will see out his current contract, of course that current contract could be dissolved if both parties agreed, but as it stands one would think he is here for two more years. He will have a big target on his head, because the minute we slip everyone will be questioning if his heart is in the job

We might not make finals, but it’s never dull in Tigertown

Ivan’s been shackled, that’s why he’s edgy. Put away your party poppers, this is no victory for the ‘cordial & biscuits’ brigade.

Breen just said he believes Cleary will be at Penrith after the season is finished. They asked Gus, he never denied it, didn’t answer it.
Gallen said the I intend to stay was far from convincing from Cleary.
The story is far from finished as far as the media is concerned.

But, but, but, isn't it only the media and some forum loonies …...........

What the media are saying is pretty much what most people outside the Tigers think. Of course without a release from his contract he is going nowhere and the club has made their position pretty clear on what they think of a release. Anyway everything you could say on the matter has been said ten times, so it’s time to sit back and see what happens
