Lara Pitt said yesterday on NRL 360 that the Tigers have offered an initial $550k salary, which would increase through bonuses based on his appearances at fullback. So, either he plays really well at fullback and keeps his spot resulting in a salary around $800k (which is fullback money), or he returns to the wing and is being paid $550k. I'm happy with both scenarios.

I cant imagine that that would be correct. I cant imagine a player or agent would allow a contract like that where you can reduce a players salary merely by picking him in a particular position. How would it be administered, what stops the club from rorting it? What happens if he gets moved mid game? How would the club budget for salary cap?

So you think if JAC is playing well at fullback the club will intentionally move him back to wing just so they can pay him less? Really??

An incentive based contract is exactly what we should be offering him. The exact details of which are for his agent and the club to determine.

If he is smashing it, no they wouldnt. What if he was kinda ok? Like about the standard that Douiehi has been and you stood to save $150K if you moved him and could replace him with someone about the same?

Sounds like a good contract. Madge isn't the type who would drop him from a position to save money. Either way we get a good deal. If he is a revelation at fullback, then he would easily be worth $800K. Same goes if he ends up having to go back to the wing ($550k is great value for us).

I have a feeling this is going to take a few months to sort out as melb won't release him until they get there man. Fingers cross it actually happens and happens soon..

Yep it’ll take months to sort out, meanwhile one of the Big clubs big name players will get in trouble during the off season they’ll de-register the player and then swoop on JAC.
That’s how it goes doesn’t it?

Why do you not have confidence in WTs' capacity to get this done? Hartigan from what we know is highly capable. Just my view but the Storm may want this news released after the finals.

Josh Addo-Carr will get the chance to earn "fullback money" at Wests Tigers, but he’s going to have to play in the No.1 jumper to get it.

The Tigers have tabled Addo-Carr a four-year, multimillion-dollar deal, which the parties have agreed to in principle, but remains contingent on Melbourne granting him a release. The offer is unique, given it contains a clause that dictates how much Addo-Carr will be paid based on which position he plays.

The Storm star has made no secret of his desire to switch to the No.1 jersey after establishing himself as one of the world’s best wingers. In doing so, he is seeking remuneration befitting a fullback, a role that usually attracts a higher salary than that of a winger.

Emotional Gus reflects on time with Mansour

An emotional Phil Gould has reflected on his time at the Panthers with Josh Mansour.

The Tigers haven’t been able to settle on a custodian since James Tedesco left, with Corey Thompson, Moses Mbye and Adam Doueihi among the options rotated through the role. They are prepared to give Addo-Carr a chance to own the role and pay him a commensurate salary, but have inserted protections in the contract in case the experiment doesn’t work.

The Sun-Herald can reveal Addo-Carr will trigger bonus payments if he plays more than half the season in the No.1 jersey, believed to be the first clause of its kind in NRL history. The compromise will give the 25-year-old the "fullback money" he is chasing if he can make a successful switch, while also preventing the Tigers from paying "overs" if he reverts back to his customary wing spot.

Cynics will suggest the clause could be manipulated by shifting Addo-Carr back to the wing before bonuses are triggered to save salary cap funds. In 2007, Newcastle forward Kirk Reynoldson would have activated a contract extension if he played 15 games, but then coach Brian Smith refused to pick him once he had reached 14. The matter was settled out of court after Reynoldson threatened legal action.

However, Addo-Carr and the Tigers have entered into negotiations in good faith and the parties are confident they can make the situation work.

Addo-Carr and the Storm will need a win over the Cowboys on Sunday on the Sunshine Coast to keep their minor premiership hopes alive as they look to keep pace with the Panthers at the top of the ladder.

Speaking to the Herald last month, Addo-Carr predicted he could match it with the top fullbacks in the game from 2021.

“If I have a full pre-season and work extremely hard, I think I can be up there,” Addo-Carr said at the time.

The development comes as Warrington emerge as a potential destination for Benji Marshall next season if the English club allows Gareth Widdop to return to the NRL.

Marshall's future, beyond his last two NRL appearances this season, is in doubt after the joint-venture outfit decided not to offer the veteran playmaker another contract. The 35-year-old hasn’t made a definitive call on his future and will wait until the end of the season before deciding whether to extend his illustrious playing career into an 18th season.

Marshall did his chances of picking up a new club no harm in Thursday night’s loss to South Sydney. The former Kiwi international produced one of his best displays of the season, producing two try assists and three line-break assists to orchestrate a stunning comeback that fell just short

I think this is a fantastic idea for both parties involved. If he's good enough he'll get there...if not then nothing lost. It's up to him and that is a breath of fresh air.

Sounds very smart from the Tigers which is new. They’ve been very innovative this year with getting Harry on loan and now this deal

Sounds like we’re just waiting for Melbourne to release him

I like the idea, but it would be even better if we also sign Charlie Stains with the same incentive.
It would help us balance out our cap and ensure we have a ready made fullback to cover, and or a speedster on the wing at all times.

Would be another savvy / innovative bit of work from the Tigers if they land him. This deal and the Harry Grant loan are worlds away from the shocking contracts we have come up with in years previous.

I like this and would love to give him a shot at FB. With all the experience he would of gained from Slater and Belly plus a full of season training he will be good.
But no holding my breath on this actually happening solely because it could take months for Storm to get a replacement and by that time other clubs will jump into the bidding war.. As you know we don't have a lot of money to spend..

Yeah i agree quite smart seeing as though we've been burnt by "fullback money" so many times now, if he wants it come and get it. Also think Benji will be better off going to England could possibly play at least 2 more seasons if not 3,
