Johnston drops certain try
NRL: Alex Johnston dropped the ball on what would have been a certain try for South Sydney.
The South Sydney Rabbitohs were in secret negotiations to sign champion Melbourne Storm winger Josh Addo-Carr before backflipping to keep Alex Johnston.
The club’s head of football, Mark Ellison, had been in discussions with Addo Carr’s manager, Mario Tartak, for several weeks and made a verbal offer.

At the last moment the offer was withdrawn.
The Rabbitohs were concerned it would be a public relations nightmare.
That it would be wrong to tell Johnston there was no room in the salary cap then bring in another winger on more money. Not when fans were running an online petition to keep Johnston at Redfern.
A public relations nightmare prevented Josh Addo-Carr from joining Souths.

He is already looking for a home to buy in Sydney’s inner west.

Maybe we can do a player loan swap for next year
We get Addo-Carr
Melbourne get Mbye
Then we sign Addo-Carr for the start of the 2022 season
The same year Harry signs with us
That's the same year Paker and Reynolds come off contract
Ahhhhh
Its all starting to fall into place now

So we are unlikely to get JAC then. Will the Storm accept just anyone as a replacement? Somehow I doubt it. Who is available that the Storm would accept?

Given that Melbourne has given him Permission to move on. Are we able to Announce a deal from 22 with a pending update for 21 once Melbourne has received compensation and officially releases him for 2021 season?
