Wait until November 1 and sign him for 2022.
Then negotiate with the Storm.

Don't think that makes a difference? Storm already know JAC wants to leave now. Usually you sign the player in advance to put pressure on the incumbent club getting performance / spending money on what has now becomes their definite last year at the club. But with JAC, they already know 2021 is his last year no matter what.

The real question for Storm is do they think they can have JAC perform to his best in 2021 if they force him to stay?

And in Tigers' position, we need to have our own deadline for when our deal lapses, so we can spend the money elsewhere ourselves. Storm can figure out the swap / replacement position on their own.

Melbourne are not in a position of power because nobody want to give an easy trade on a "comparable" footballer to JAC when they all know for sure JAC wants to go back to Sydney.

I agree. Love how their CEO is trying to pass the buck onto us, suggesting it rests on whatever decision we make and that JAC's future is in our hands.

Hopefully Tigers hold strong on this, which it appears they are. It's completely up to Melbourne - we're not obligated to provide them a replacement. It's simple, we're in a position to sign JAC now if he wants to come, and if Melbourne will release him. If they don't then that's on them.

whether JAC signs with us or not, we need to sign Charlie Staines because regardless of who is at the back, we will have a pacy, decent finisher on the wing.

that said with all this I think it's just the storm trying to make us do something stupid. there's many of you that have doubts about Talau, but we all said the same things about Koro, Papi and JAC himself. the kid is still learning and we can't let it happen again. fingers crossed Melbourne find a replacement within the next few weeks and the signing is confirmed.

Melbourne might have to realise they won’t find a good replacement for JAC in the NRL at the moment. Not really any top quality winters available for them to sign.

Melbourne doesn’t have to realise anything. JAC is contracted to Melbourne for 2021, they can do nothing and he plays there next year.

Give up talau for JAC we fet Mommo back if we can sign Staines and JAC who cares about talau.
Forget pinning hopes on unproven talent and sign a current SOO and rep winger in JAC

Give them Jennings along with his souffs stats !!

if we lose JAC we are a dumb club, the only way we shoukd pass on JAC is if Harry can stay and we can put money towards Harry but we woukd need to sign Staines then as a fb

I know they could easily just refuse to let him go, that’s why we shouldn’t play hardball too much with them. They just can’t expect some top quality winger in return because it seems very unlikely

They mentioned his favored club. That means the club he wants to go too. If the rumors are correct we also got Tamou for less than Saints offered him because we are a preferred club.

He is not our most important signing in a decade, he's a winger. Our most important/heralded was Josh Reynolds and now we are making him feel bad*, trying to offload him at every turn. Spine players and forward leaders are the important ones. The rest are window dressing.

* didn't want to get "joshed", so self edited 🙂

He would be the first current Australian player we’ve ever signed and the first current origin player since Hodgson. He would easily be the best player we’ve signed in at least a decade and would indicate that we’ve turned a corner and that good players want to be here without us paying crazy overs.

It’s an extremely important signing and wingers are one of the most important positions in the modern game. If we play tough and lose him it would be absolutely terrible

Life would go on.

It sure would, another year of rebuildin

Another year of mediocrity and missing out on good players. This signing is more than just what he brings on the field it’s about changing the culture of the club as a whole and if we miss out on him because we didn’t want to trade them some half average outside back when it’s the stupidest thing we’ve ever done.

JAC is not going to be the difference between mediocrity and us being an NRL force.

He is a fast winger, that is all. (We at this stage do not have the players to make use of him).

We would be better getting those players first, by the time we get them JAC will be retired.

Honestly, as long as you have identified your areas of need, you fill them as they become available. Yes we have other areas of need but there are not players available for those areas now, so you fill the ones that are.

Exactly there no quick fix you improve the team whenever you can and he’s a major improvement. He’s the best player on the market at the moment, we can’t sign any halves and we’ve already snagged a decent prop. Signing him makes so much sense

We don't have the prop yet, don't believe it until you hear it from the club.

‘Within 48 hours’ they reckon ? it seems very likely that we’ve got him, even Gould tweeted that he’s coming here. Hopefully there’s something offical soon

Gould tweeting it doesn't make it so, it is close so hopefully there will be an announcement soon.

We've got Tamou mate.

None of this is in our control so it definitely wouldn't make us a dumb club. Grant is going back to the storm at this point. If he doesn't I expect we will try and sign him.

Hopefully we get JAC as well but we shouldn't be stupid about it.

Of course but what is the relevance of this comment. This can happen with every single signing the club makes. Should we go and recruit a winger for the Storm on the same dollars and with the same ability as JAC ? Why would we do that ? What player would agree to that ?

He ran the place for a decade, and probably still has lots of connections there. I’d say he has an idea of what goes on there

The relevance of this comment is that people on here are happy to either wait a year to sign JAC or refuse to give them ANY player. If we do either of those there’s a good chance roosters or Souths can make him an offer and our best chance of signing JAC goes down the drain.

Right now we're in the box seat for JAC. I had info from one of his relatives during the Latrell circus that if he came back to Sydney, he'd be happy at the WT. Nothing has changed in that regard. If something were to go amiss, it's not the end of the world, I'm confident we'll end up with someone decent, ala Staines, Hetherington.

I don't think they have the upper hand at all. They have a player who wants out with 1 year left. No club is going to be silly enough to swap an up and coming player long term, for 1 extra year of JAC.

They won't go into 2021 with a disgruntled player.
