In my opinion presenting a HOA for signatures is what happens when player says he wants to be at WT and no other club. Can’t stop telling us how much love he has for the club. We are all afraid to question it so we skip asking and then we’ve gone too far after he refuses to sign a contract. So we produce the HOA to get some kind of commitment.?
People are using hindsight to state we did the wrong thing. Hindsight is a backwards looking indicator. You can't really draw much from that.
We did our due diligence. We went through the process for the right player. We then changed our approach when it was clear it wasn't going to work. You can't do any better than that in real time.
I don't want to be like a lot of guys who think they understand management and make it out to be simplistic but I have worked in big corporate in IT and there are certain principles when negotiating that work really well. Hindsight isn't a useful technique.
There are some useful techniques though in IT management. One of those is go for low cost options and try and learn from that. That is exactly what you are doing trying to get Latrell and JAC.
You can't state well we didn't get those guys and it was obvious at the time because it wasn't. I think it shows we are smart in that we had a shot and we didn't win but we learnt from it.
