Momo, as you know you’re only clever in hindsight if you learn from the experience mate.
In my opinion presenting a HOA for signatures is what happens when player says he wants to be at WT and no other club. Can’t stop telling us how much love he has for the club. We are all afraid to question it so we skip asking and then we’ve gone too far after he refuses to sign a contract. So we produce the HOA to get some kind of commitment.?

People are using hindsight to state we did the wrong thing. Hindsight is a backwards looking indicator. You can't really draw much from that.

We did our due diligence. We went through the process for the right player. We then changed our approach when it was clear it wasn't going to work. You can't do any better than that in real time.

I don't want to be like a lot of guys who think they understand management and make it out to be simplistic but I have worked in big corporate in IT and there are certain principles when negotiating that work really well. Hindsight isn't a useful technique.

There are some useful techniques though in IT management. One of those is go for low cost options and try and learn from that. That is exactly what you are doing trying to get Latrell and JAC.

You can't state well we didn't get those guys and it was obvious at the time because it wasn't. I think it shows we are smart in that we had a shot and we didn't win but we learnt from it.

I know that It’s great to be clever in hindsight but in my opinion WT should have seen the writing on the wall with JAC and his management when they would only settle on signing heads of agreement which was dependent on his release in 2021.
From that point they held all the high ground and had many options for a way out of the contract.
So I’m afraid that was a poor choice on our part.
Lesson to be learnt by our recruitment team ..... we should have bypassed 2021 and insisted that they commit and sign for 2022 onwards. Then again it could be that WT were less interested in that outcome .... so I suppose, that plays either way.

They couldn’t sign a contract for 2022 until November. It would have been against NRL rules and the contract would have been void. They also couldn’t force him to sign a contact for 2021 as he already had one with the Storm.

I can understand him picking South over us and Dogs and even if its for less money because he will get the money in other forms etc.. (we won't go into that)...
What blows my mind is the media are talking up the Dogs like they will be top 8 next year and heading into a long period of success... For me we are in better shape then them hands downs and with all the talented juniors we have recruited, Quality players we signed plus the salary cap space coming after next year we are heading upwards..
The Dogs have been on the bottom for a few years now and there recruitment is off the money to me with big money on Backs when they need halves / hooker and forwards... Adding JAC would be another big contract for a back and Burton is on big cash in 2022 for a guy with only a few games to his belt.. Barrett had a great team at Manly and chocked but the media love him and his recruitment... Anyway time will tell but for me if I was JAC i would pick Tigers over Dogs with the foundations we have put in place. I think he will end up at South's though.

So we are fine that managers don't wanna talk to us but they'll talk to other clubs

Something wrong here

I’ve been happy with Lee sticking up for the club in the media lately despite a few gaffs, next I think we need to do some work on our relationship with player managers. Feels like they just see us as a vehicle to drive up offers elsewhere.

Yeah... I'm not supporting a sign JAC at all costs, but this just looks like us trying to save face somewhat.
We can't be happy with being a first stop in the recruitment bargaining journey... We need to be better and be in the race at the finish

True but I want JAC on elite winger money not fullback money. It will take 1-2 years to get up to speed even if they do well. Look at Holmes. 1mill a year and he's still a better winger than fullback. Alex Johnstone the same. Just because they want to play at fullback doesn't mean they will be great at it.

I'd prefer tO develop Laurie and go hard for Angus chrighton or Tohu Harris to fill the 2nd row spot myself

What you need to do is during your preliminary discussions, let’s call them discovery discussions because that’s what they are, each party is discovering what each other hopes to get from the relationship, is to be upfront and honest .
Tell the player and his agent that we are very interested and will talk more after they’ve explored other options on their list.
Nofa is doing that to us now. Gould did that with Mansour. It’s not rocket surgery.

It's not hard... Other clubs do it... All our staff have been at other clubs... We dictate terms from the get go... If the target is not interested we don't come out in the media with wishy washy excuses... We shut our traps and move on

Honestly, anyone that would prefer Laurie to Jac has rocks in their head and exhibits the loser mentality that's plagued this club for a decade. One is one of the best players in the world, the other is a 21 year old who's played 2games. One signing is a player who can help team's win the comp, the other might help them in a few years. What do we want to be competitive now or in a few years?

While Laurie does look very talented, we've been relying on talented youngsters to lead us to glory for 15 years now. Talented kids is only part of the journey for us, we also need some elite talent to help the kids develop into future stars, us make the finals and be more desirable and successful

We are a tortured lot who find ways to cope with disappointment. I doubt there is a fan at this club who wouldn't be ecstatic if JAC signed.

I would be over the moon if JAC was to join Us at the start of next year being 2021.
But at the start of 2022 may just be a year to late as he aint getting any younger as far a speedy wingers go.
He would also need to come to Us on greatly reduced $$$ for that reason.

Please close the thread guys,no point shining more light on this flop, really disappointed in how he has treated the club

Winger has become a crucial position.
Nowadays a strong winger makes a team.
Hit ups, line breaks, speed, spectacular finishes- wingers are bludgers no more.

IMO outside of the spine, it is the most important position in today’s game.

And JAC is hands down the best winger I have seen in many years.

In Origin I couldn’t believe that he didn’t get more ball - he was incredibly penetrating, always dangerous.

Anyone suggesting that he isn’t worth top dollar please reconsider. JAC absolutely is top top drawer.
Throw the chequebook at him.

They did throw the cheque book..

It bounced

So don’t negotiate with anyone unless they plan to sign with us 100%? We negotiate in good faith and hope that we are in with a shot. We can’t lose them if we don’t throw our hat in the ring. And for me I’m happy for them to keep chasing superstars until we eventually get one.

Zero tackle has come up with a scoop....

JAC has a Club of Choice to go to SOUTHS... Didn’t see that
