OFFICIAL Jack Bird #299

He's been ineffective. Not terrible tbh, just not suited to what they got him for. Good freakin luck finding someone to take him...although he does kind of seem like a terrible Manly or Souths signing.

BIRD ON THE WAY OUT OF LEICHHARDT

Jack Bird is looking for his third club in as many seasons with the Wests Tigers giving him permission to test his value on the open market.

The Daily Telegraph reported Bird has been given permission to negotiate with rivals clubs after falling out of favour with Benji Marshall in 2025.

Bird is free to leave the Tigers at the end of the season if he is able to find a deal elsewhere despite having 12 months left on his contract.

The 30-year-old has played 17 games for the Tigers in his first season of a two year deal at the club after he was released by the Dragons at the end of the 2024 season.

He has played 17 games for the Tigers this year largely off the bench and has only played 80 minutes twice.

Bird is on a deal worth $400,000 a season and it remains to be seen if the Tigers would be willing to chip in a chunk of his salary to play elsewhere next season.

He may be forced to move to the Super League in a bid to secure a multi-year deal.

Bird has scored 36 tries in 173 games for the Sharks, Broncos, Dragons and Tigers since his debut in 2015 and won a premiership in 2016.

He has also played five Origins for the Blues in 2016 and 2017, but has struggled to reach the heights of his early career at Cronulla after a brutal run with injuries at the Broncos.

The Tigers have made key re-signings in recent weeks including Starford To’a and Adam Doueihi while they have also signed Jock Madden (Broncos), Kai Pearce-Paul (Knights), Javon Andrews (Titans), Mavrik Geyer (Panthers), and Ethan Roberts (Roosters) for next season, while they also want to extend Taylan May after giving him an NRL lifeline.

Good. I hope Twal is next. It doesn't make sense to re-sign a player because he's a nice bloke. I know Benji has said "when he talks everyone listens" but seriously, do we need another orator or an enforcer?
It’s all well and good for the club to tap so and so on the shoulder, but some other club has got to be willing to take them. I don’t see too many clubs queuing up to give Twal a two or three year contract. Same applies to Hunt and Seyfatrth. Just have to accept they are bad contracts in Hunt’s case. In Seyfarth’s, a product of three consecutive spoons.

That's still better than hanging on to him if he makes 1st grade again, I'll go rock hopping in the nude.
If, and or when this happens RHS you had better let me know. If you intend fishing nude off the stones at Caves Beach I will make sure that I set a northerly bearing once I cruise through Swansea bar. I will definitely be heading for Redhead. At my age I can't afford anything to put me off my fishing.

we used to go to the local footy in the 90;s . Esky to sit on and a rug for the Ladies , Bucket of kfc ,the last 3 pieces were for the brave ,or dished out as punishment for the largest faux par of the day. Swimming in grease that the skin fell off
Used to have the KFC Cup for golf. Take 2 slabs and a bucket to the course. Whoever won a hole had to skull a beer and eat a piece. As the bucket got colder and the beer warmer it was a penalty not a reward.

As their value drops they hopefully become more attractive to either clubs in the bottom or middle 8, or SL?
The point is, as we’ve all been saying we should be trading up. Hiring skills that we don’t have to suit our playing style.
We shouldn’t be re-signing players because they have some obscure talent that doesn’t win games such as being good for morale or being a great family man etc. surely we can find these qualities in a player who has speed to burn, or has a Fittler sidestep?

I reckon Twal has had his best season this year ..if he sees out his deal that’s fine by me ..

Don't worry BT it won't happen I think Bird is looking like he's on the way out or at the very least has buckleys chance of ever getting back into 1st grade with the depth we are building.

Besides can you imagine the dangers involved, there could be a hungry tuna/ barracuda desperate enough to leap out of the water looking for a meal.
