Jackson Hastings #251

Just watched the highlights or should i say lowlights.Defensively it is below reggies standard here,i know it is edited to show why he got an award over in the UK but it would mean more if he actually had to penetrate a coordinated defensive line and not teams full of pathetic shirt grabbing defence and complete mistackles.

He would really bring Daine Lauirie into a game.Really nice touches and plays through the line with good hands and well timed passes.

That defense ? ?

The defence is pretty ordinary, but do you not think he'd be a step up on Brooks? He has an excellent kicking game and seems to be a competitor, two things Brooks is completely devoid of.

I’m all for finding a replacement but I just really don’t think he’s the one, so no

Better than Madden at this stage sure

Wow i'm not sure about that. By all reports Madden is struggling in reserve grade, Hastings is one of the best players in SL. I'm not saying he's the solution to our problems, but he's a much better option than Brooks and Madden.

Why has no other club in the NRL expressed interest in him then?

From all reports he’s been dying to come back...he was even back in Australia for a month wasn’t he?

I know Barrett had a super tight relationship with him coaching him in his junior days. Bulldogs were looking at a half for 2022. They opted for a rookie (Burton) over him?

Barrett literally took DCE's side and sacked Hastings to reserve grade. They don't have a good relationship at all.

Why weren't all the other clubs after Daine Laurie? Why weren't all the other clubs after Joe O and Tamou? Hastings fills a need for us as a club because we need a half.

I’m talking sg ball, Harold matthews etc when Barrett coached him. Why do you think he was the only one to give Hastings a life line when he failed miserably at Roosters?

Probably because we offered him a starting fullback role?

I think it’s probably because Hastings has a difficult personality and isn’t really liked. But I couldn’t care less about that. I’d rather that than a nice bloke that can’t play.

Having expressed such when the initial reports began, not surprised that they wrote about Hastings being looked primarily for the lock role as despite most other's opinions, for mine we have not been going great guns in the middle and Twal has always been a prop.

100% agree. Twal is not a lock and the way NRL is played this year his physique and (lack of) speed is much more suited to a prop position.

Laurie looks like he is a Gem
Tamou and Ofahengaue will do their jobs
I hope
Hastings well that is yet to be determined
Going off what we saw of Burton last night, he is a dynamic player and would have been a great pick up for us

Hastings.... I hope I'm wrong. I dont rate him. Too much of a hot head without self control. Can't ignore being baited.

This is going to be the issue for some fans when it comes to looking at a replacement for Brooks.

A higher than his true value opinion of Luke Brooks will only see them want the best halves in the game as replacements.

Never mind his position and influence on the team is bordering on toxic and unfixiable.

Can you elaborate on toxic ? Do you mean toxic to results or the culture ? I think the toxicity is more around fans and him being toxic to their mental health , rather than the guys on the field

Think the stumbling block with Hastings was a 200000 quid transfer fee to break his contract, which gets counted against our cap and is essentially dead money
But were a dead and buried club in 2021 unless we get a defence coach AND an organising half, and neither Brooks nor Douhi nor Mbye are the latter
Madge has to roll the dice on Hastings to save his own coaching career IMO...he's bought more deadwood than Ivan tbh, with only Lucy and Laurie having a crack and looking like NRL contenders.
Joffa/Tamou/Douhi/JoeyL and Koepa either underperforming or just dont have sufficient skills to make it,and JtJ too early to tell whether he still has it
I like Madge, but so far Im VERY underwhelmed.Needs stronger recruitment and retention plus player indivudual skill development (most are going backwards),and new approaches to fire up motivation and ownership
Were heading for the Broncos spoon unless something changes..fast

I think you are being too critical of Joffa and Tamou.

AND AD after one game and AJ playing injured.

Most Manly supporters my age tell me that DCE is the most disliked Manly player since Fulton and they have also told me Hastings is a tosser but not quite as bad

Is he worth paying 100k to play him for half a season? Not sure about that.

At lock sounds doubtful. He has the build of a half, if he were going to play hooker/lock he'd need to bulk up a bit more.

I doubt if it would be a 100k transfer fee their season has not even started yet.Judging by other transfer fees in the past it would be more like 200k+ and i dont think any have been a success

Spot on Russell. I don't want Hastings anywhere near the WTs.

You two happy to see us struggle every week because we have a dud halfback?
Oh, he’s a local junior... that changes everything.?

If you believe Hastings is the answer, the wrong question is being asked to the wrong inidivdual.

I rewatched his “highlights” in the super league

Seriously he’s as slow as a wet week and some of the defense he was up against reminded me of us on the weekend

Mitch Moses 2.0 with even less talent

Maybe what you should be looking at is why does Maguire want him in the team?

He is not an idiot.

Could it be the things that dont show up on highlight reels like game management and a good kicking game.

Things we desperately need and dont have in the building.

That must be why all the other clubs in the NRL were lining up for him

Let’s just stick with Brooks the proven match winner.

I didn't say that... But I guess you must think JH is a proven match winner, I haven't seen it tho and it must be why all the other clubs are after him too

I may be mistaken, but I thought I remembered Twal chasing one of the Roosters wingers along the touchline and nearly darn well catch him.

JH could be anything, and im happy for the club to take a risk on a man of steel winner. What I do know is that Brooks after 150 games hasn’t got it and changes to our number 7 need to be made sooner rather then later. If it is AR, JH or gun junior like volkman then I’m happy to take any of the above over Brooks.

Wigan don't want to release him apparently

That’s just them saying show us the money. They want a transfer fee which is fair enough.

Well that de-escalated quickly..

You reckon we’ll get him this year Geo?

Not sure..Hastings has been discussed for 6 months with a view to 2022..they hadn't approached Wigan for an early release at that stage at all

Chammas article is Sam Ayoub 101..timing is everything

Not sure apart from cash is in it for Wigan a pretty pivotal position they would need to find a replacement where halves are just as scarce in the ESL as they are in the NRL..

I don't get it and find it untimely news for us, it's honestly knocked me for six that we're already reworking our plans. I've only heard how on top of things the club are yet there's this sudden decision which could potentially destabilise two clubs and possibly impact another.
Add in the fact how much unwanted attention this will attract to the club/team.
Don't like how this looks at all.
Nothing against our target, as I don't even know who he is.
Poor Cowboys fans thought Ben Barba was the second coming of Jesus when signing him after his Man of Steel win. So think I'll reserve any judgement/opinion on how much a saviour he'll be.

Someone on here said we're in uncharted territory but I see the exact same storyline playing out.
It began with Scott Prince and Brett Hodgson and hasn't changed much at all since then - Tim Moltzen, Shannon McDonnell, Robert Lui, Luke Brooks, Jacob Liddle, James Tedesco, Tui Lolohea, Benjia Marshall, Robbie Farah, Moses Mbye, Adam Doueihi, Pita Godinet, Matt Ballin.
This club has a way of tempting fate.

Lauren,I dont know much about Hastings either, however something isnt right with Brooks...he has gotten worse since a bad year last year...people can blame the coach and any other reason,,,in my opinion and Johns and Fittler both agreed that the forwards did a heck of a lot of work in the lead up attack in the Roosters game and LUKE kicked the ball dead 3 times killing all momentum and giving them 7 tackle sets, no wonder the players were out on their feet come the last 15/20 mins...
BJ and AJ didnt help matters, but we have heard and said many times that Luke must guide and control this team....apparently Madge is at witts end about what to do,this is why the Hastings talk I would imagine....cheers mate...
