Jackson Hastings #251

With Sheen keeping him at 13 even with Brooks out says Sheen wants him there long term. I think it's just up to Hasting and if he wants to play there long term or not.
I was very concerned about this move but TBH I think its been a master stroke and has opened our game up plus Hastings has been very impressive with this efforts without the ball.
Please Please keep this guy.
Hastings had Payne Haas running at him all night and he took care of him. He can read kicks so well. He must have cleaned up 2-3 dangerous kicks.

…and considering they had 4 current origin players that’s a big commitment on top of his playmaking duties and 155m in attack.

I actually think his runs mixed with his ball playing / control opens the middle up somewhat for our props to get an extra few mtrs per run as he is closer to the line now rather than an extra 5mtrs back.

He has been massive at lock considering he hasn’t trained for it. Very impressed with Hastings atm.

I think the only reason he played lock tonight is because we have no forwards. Assuming he is out next week if Garner is not back, expect to see Peachey, Tumeth, Mata or (god forbid) Dias starting at lock

Look its 2 games but on current form I doubt he will be moved unless Brooks/Madden are both injured or leave.

He is making meters, he is ball playing, support middles and getting infront of the big boppers making tackles. I think the last 2 games have actually been his best games for us & is actually more effective for us at lock

It might also come down to can his body handle it.

Sheens said a couple of weeks ago that Hastings will be at lock for the rest of the year. That was before Brookes got injured

I don’t think we have ever seen the structure by any club that the Tigers are playing before. Hastings is playing like a lock in defence but a organising halfback in attack. It’s a revolutionary position. He is more than a ball playing lock . It allows us to have 2 5/8s in attack . . It is brilliant & I hope the Tigers persist with it . That being said, I think only very few if any can play that 1/2 lock position that Hastings is currently playing. Hope that injury is not to bad

Yeah it’s been great having him dig into the line and pass which has compressed the middle and created space for Madden and Doueihi. They’re also getting more ball at speed.
I like the look of it and Hastings has been up to the defensive load so far, but it’s going to be a punish for him to keep it up.
