Madge has to bring in Simpkin off the bench Liddle made 50 tackles service was abysmal. It was terrible even after 1 tackle though. Slower than Farah was at the end of his career.

Crap - no one is slower than that, unless they are dead.

:joy: :joy: :joy:

Liddle didnt have anything organised from dummy half, most times there was noone there to pass to hence the delay

I've never seen a player who has done so little have so many excuses made for him. He was behind the pace today, which is nota surprise given how long it has been since he played, but still.

Have you heard of Luke Brooks?

Yeah he kicked out on the full not once but damn twice.. His 5th tackle kicking options was poor. ?

Look the way the game has sped up since last year, I think it’s silly for Jacob to be playing 80 ( just yet)

There is no way I would drop Liddle but I would definitely have someone on the bench who can give him a break.

I didn’t think Liddle was as bad as some are making out, wasn’t perfect but geez it’s round 1. Like many I had high hopes for the start of the season buts let’s put things into perspective....

- Brooks is the only regular player left from last years spine
- Our 5/8 that has trained in the position all pre-season was unavailable
- Forward pack has been completely changed and half of them have never played together

For those calling for Simpkin to be brought straight in to replace Liddle or even having him on the bench, take a breath and consider what that really means. Simpkin playing CC gives him the chance to play 80mins every week against hardened men to hone his skills and learn how to lead a team around the park.

You put him into first grade now without that prior-learning and you stifle his development, especially after being off the park all of last season.

Liddle deserves the chance to work into the first few rounds in what’s essentially a new team and Simpkin needs the opportunity in CC to develop his skill and then push for a spot in the top grade.

Both scenarios are a positive for our team moving forward.

:+1:

So… Josh Hodgson is out for a year, comes back and plays 80 minutes, the same as Liddle.

Who played better?

Hodgson seemed to be a little grub

I say we need to give Liddle a few games to get match fit before passing judgement on his ability. When was the last time he played 80 at nrl level? Would have been a few years ago if ever? He did some work out there.

Does anyone actually believe Liddle will play 80 mins at hooker this week? God I hope not, and i'd be very surprised if Madge doesn't learn from his mistake. Even if Liddle plays 80 mins he may take a 'breather' at lock, where he doesn't have to run around the field to be at every ruck.

The question is it then better for Simpkin to play 80 mins in nsw cup, or play 20-30 in NRL. Are we focusing on winning games or solely on player development?

Every game is a chance to get 2 premiership points and having the best team available only increases our chances.
We're not writing Jacob off but rather suggesting in order to maximise his input, and therefore help the team performance, we simply need to be using two hookers (especially against the top teams) to counter against the possibility of fatigue.
We aren't gonna be winning too many games if one of our key players isn't as effective with his service due to this.

The opportunity was there for the coach, at some stage, to move Mbye to hooker and Talau to five eight, to rest Liddle. Maybe we should be examining our bench rotations, where we leave two of our subs until the game is over.

a few games our season might be gone think we need simokin on the bench

Liddle's asset is his speed from dummy half hopefully half way in to season Simpkin starts and they bring Liddle on to scoot from DH and give Simpkin a breather

Also Hodgson scored very low in Super Coach

These must be measured in short bursts because I’m sure I saw JAC in full flight and there’s no way he’s only 0.4km faster than Liddle

JAC is handicapped they use an alarm clock to time him??????

Looking forward to Jacob ripping in this week. I imagine it will be quiet in here if he plays well.

and likewise defenders coming out of the woodwork if he plays badly

It will, cause its a WESTS TIGERS forum dummy.

Lauren,in my honest opinion, when Madge has Liddle,Douhi,Brooks and Laurie all on the paddock together regularly,we will see how different the team and gameplans will be,,,stay strong have faith in Madge for at least 6/7 games then we can judge ...He has new recruits older and younger to get to GEL for 80 mins.not an easy task to get right overnight...

Yeah it's not like they been playing rugby league since they were 6..
