Jacob Liddle #198

Remember when multiple people on here said we would be better with Liddle compared to Grant? 😂😂😂

There were a couple of real staunch Liddle fans who were looking through some real rose coloured glasses, Liddle is not a bad player, but he is no Grant, and I suspect Simpkin is already as good and getting better

Also do not agree been dropped, could see him dropping back to 14. His service has been a bit sloppy but has been having a dig

I don't think we can carry an extra Hooker on the bench
It's either Liddle or Simpkin in the team
It's Simpkin's chance
If we loose a winger centre half or fullback, we can't put Liddle in to cover
That's were Mbye comes in
If liddle is also on the bench then we only have two forwards on the bench
That won't work

Many of us want Simpkin to get a shot
This is his 1st shot
Let's see what he can do
We might just be pleasantly surprised
Next week Simpkins may get a shot
The week after maybe Amone
Don't forget Blore will be available soon
Who makes way for him
You can never please everyone
The rest may do Liddle good
If we don't see what Simpkin has got we may loose him to another club
So I am all for giving him a go

Just on Liddle
How do people think he wood go in the halves
He can tackle
He can run
He can pass
He is fast off the mark
Not sure if he can kick but can't be any worse then what we have dished up of late

Has anyone given that any thought
Shoot me down

Harry and Liddle worked okay last season for a limited time, I think it could work with Simpkin and Liddle for a 15-20 minute stint.

The trouble with dropping a player like Liddle is that he gives it every thing. That doesn't look the case with others who are only there because of limited options. In saying that his service has been poor and he is getting smashed defensively leaving him with no petrol left in the tank. I still think he has plenty of room for growth.

Maybe this is why Maguire is looking at Hastins
Having a lock who can play other positions in the back line would allow us to run with a second hooker and three forwards on the bench
Without that mobile lock in our team I believe that restricts us from doing so
I guess it highlights our need for a quality mobile lock
At the moment if we were to run with liddle on the bench then I think madge would need to try Talau or Mbye at lock

Dumped or rested it doesn't really matter at this stage
We need to find out what Simpkin can do before our season is un salvageable

I agree with this. It looks more like he's been rested than dropped as he's not named for Reggies. I suspect he might be carrying a few niggles.

Having said that, I'm really keen to see what Simpkin can offer. My preference would have been a different game but if the kid produces against Souths it will say a lot about his character. I hope he has a blinder.

Same as always. Teams have up until an hour before kick off to confirm an 18th man.

Terrific news. He's finding his feet now and you can see that he's a first-grade player.

Also good news that Tuilagi has been promoted to squad for next season.

Seyfarth and Mikaele next.

Wests Tigers are pleased to announce that hooker Jacob Liddle has signed a contract extension with the club.

The two-year deal will see Liddle remain in Wests Tigers colours until at least the end of the 2023 NRL season.

A Wyong Roos junior, Liddle joined Wests Tigers in 2015 after earning selection in the New South Wales junior Origin and Australian Schoolboys sides. He would quickly make his first grade debut the following year, before permanently moving into the full-time squad for the 2017 season — playing 13 games and winning the club’s Rookie of the Year Award.

The talented rake has overcome several injuries throughout his career — including a serious knee injury in 2019 that sidelined him for part of the 2020 season also — but has since made a strong return and featured prominently for the club this year.

Liddle surpassed 50 NRL games earlier this year in his side’s win over Newcastle, and said he was very pleased to continue his playing career at Wests Tigers.

“I’m really excited to be able to stay on with the club,” Liddle enthused.

“It’s been a bit of an up-and-down ride for myself personally, but I’ve loved being at Wests Tigers and really feel a part of what we’re building here.

“I’m determined now to make sure I continue to deliver my best footy each and every week and help bring success to the club, its Members and its fans.”

Wests Tigers Coach Michael Maguire praised Liddle for his work ethic and said he was pleased to see the hooker remain with the club.

“Jacob has had to work really hard over the past few years,” Maguire said, “but he’s got himself now to a point where he has grown a lot as a footballer.

“He also knows where he wants to get to as a player and where he wants this club to be, and I’m looking forward to watching him continue to grow and achieve more in the years to come.”

Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe congratulated Liddle on his new deal with the club.

“On behalf of all at Wests Tigers, I’d like to say how pleased we are to see Jacob extend his playing future with the club,” Pascoe said.

“Not only is Jacob a clearly talented footballer but he is an exceptional young man away from the field who genuinely lives out the values of what we want to be known for as a club.

“Jacob has a great attitude towards his football and the club and is determined to deliver success to Wests Tigers. He is a fantastic ambassador for what we are building here and we’re all looking forward to watching him develop further in a Wests Tigers jersey.”

In addition to Liddle’s two-year deal, Wests Tigers are also pleased to confirm that Development Player Kelma Tuilagi will move into the NRL squad for the start of the 2022 campaign on a one-year deal. A Glenora Bears junior, Tuilagi featured for the Junior Kiwis in 2018 while part of the Melbourne Storm system and has featured prominently for the club’s Knock-On Effect NSW Cup side, Western Suburbs Magpies, throughout the year so far.

“Kelma has settled really well into Wests Tigers and has certainly grown a lot already in his time with the club,” Maguire said.

“Being in the full-time NRL squad next season will only benefit his development and we’re looking forward to watching that progress in the years to come.”
