OFFICIAL Jahream Bula #269

[Snidest 0]

I hope he becomes the match winner we desperately need, but I won’t hold my breath waiting for it to happen.
The inexperienced excuse is wearing thin when you watch the many other NRL fill in fullbacks come into their team and dominate from game one. Watch Kini from the Titans as an example, it’s chalk and cheese.

Kini now.....

You were talking up Jayden Campbell as a supposed star fullback a couple of months ago....

We did beat the Titans with Jahream outplaying both of them by the way!

And also trying to ressurect Daine Laurie as a better option too when he was proven to be garbage there - you are shameless!!

[The Chad]

You don't seem to realise that making metres isn't always a good thing. The same way that if your opponent keeps kicking off to Twals side of the field, doesn't make him a metre water, merely that the other team don't see him as a threat. Same with Bula, opposing teams are comfortable kicking to him because he doesn't break the line, 2 line breaks all season...

Well, that'll explain the guys in front of him then...

5th highest run metres by a fullback (2,102m) in 2024 behind Edwards, Tedesco, Kiraz, Nicoll-Klokstad

I'm assuming your argument doesn't include powder puff fullbacks like Edwards & Tedesco, yeah?

[The Chad]

It's pretty interesting that the "he doesn't get involved enough" crowd don't have a lot to say.

Actually no, Kini absolutely annihilated us, was one of the top three players on the field. Made more breaks in one match than Bula has made all season.

The sad fact is we've overpaid Bula, he may yet develop into an elite player, but currently nearly all clubs have better fullbacks than him

No, those players are elite. They make metres but also make breaks, get try assists, score tries, save tries etc

You're not actually trying to compare Bula to those players are you? They're not in the same postcode. Though there was a time when Penrith were looking to offload Edwards but he worked hard and is now the Blues fullback.

No.

But it completely messes up your previous reason as to why Bula touches the ball so often. He's either the anomoly, or your point that Bula touches it so often is only because he's no threat has to stand for Tedesco & Edwards touching it so often as well.

He’s not aggressive enough in his running style (just because he’s a good athlete) which doesn’t translate to making line breaks and clearly results in our lower than average PPG numbers… how you can even use Tedesco and Edwards in the same sentence as a reference point is just beyond me as they’re both also equally aggressive enough in attack and ‘D’.

Besides, it’s clear that most good fullbacks in the comp are enough of a threat that points of attack revolve around and flow from their mere presence.

Have you even seen Bula throw a cutout pass this yr? You also clearly aren’t listening to reason in above posts.

[king_sirro]

The team you follow are running 16th and you are happy to continue with a team full of players who can’t bust a tackle.
I can’t wait see how many games we win 10-4 next season.

I guess we put Toa back there then. He can't bust tackles better then anyone in the game at his best.

You don't seem to realise how blessed we are Bula landed on our doorstep through pure luck. A QLD kid who gave the game away. He just happened to land in Sydney and one day had a run around which resulted in us somehow securing a very good athlete at a young age. It's pure luck he is here, and it's up to us to bring him along and bring the best out of him.

Yes of course he has areas of his game that need improving. The kid played centre all his life then had a year off and basically went into being a first grade fullback off the back of a single pre season.

It doesn't worry me if he plays fullback or centre, but if Benji wants him at 1 we need to give him a break here and there. Dylan Edwards took years before he was even half decent.

Some of the tackles Bula makes are ones that not many players can do, yet he makes it look easy. There is something athletically gifted there and we are lucky to have that rough diamond.
I have seen some improvement this year in how he injects himself into the backline. Sezer has helped him there I think. Im baffled that a young humble kid who has been given a task not many would succeed at under his circumstances is copping grief from supporters. It's really unfair and shows a distinct lack of class from some.

Your relentless in your criticism of the kid. Leave him alone.

His game has changed though. Possibly because coach wants him to play a more supportive role in attack while he settles into stride. We did see him being more creative in his early games. But then again same could be said of most of our players.

[pawsandclaws1]

But he isn't a star. A star on our backline made up of NSW cup plodders, perhaps. He doesn't create opportunities, he doesn't facilitate breaks or offloads. If he was there yelling for the pass but our boys were incapable of offloading the ball to him then yes, being at WT could be used as an excuse. Currently other clubs regularly kick it to Bula because they know he might drop it, and if he doesn't he's unlikely to make a break or break a tackle.
If he was busting his ass and not reaping the rewards you'd have a point. But he's too carefree to throw himself into the match.

Listen to the commentators when he gets the ball, there is an air of excitement because they know he has the x factor. With a few additional backline stars like Luai and Turuva he will become an even better player. At present there are so few threats in the backline that defences can concentrate on him. It would assist also having a Luai/Fainu halves combination because both have that x factor we lack.

It’s not my fault he cannot bust a tackle, make a line break, create line break assists or try assists like every other NRL fullback does.

[Mccarry]

Maybe some deep breaths for few. No need to be so rude.

I support him, I want him to progress, I believe he is a lovely young man. I’m also happy for him to have another year or so to develop.

I also can be realistic about him right now.

Do defensive lines struggle to contain him - no (running fullback)

Does he make the likelihood of players around him making a line break increase - no (ball playing fullback)

Is he that fullback who shows up around the ruck as the always there support player - no (support fullback)

Does he organise our defensive line yelling from the back - no

Now everyone will blame the rest of the team. Sure they are part of it. But in the same way he is part of why our attack struggles. Part of.

Teddy had a period like this for us. Wasn’t it Teddy that the Leichhardt crowd had a cry that went up when the bomb went up and then everyone clapped and laughed when he actually caught it? Reece Walsh struggled early career. Edwards struggled mid career.

I hope Bula will get there. I can also see that natural athletic gift that he has. Go Bula!

But he needs to answer two of my four questions above or he won’t make it as an NRL fullback.

Meters, carries, tackles. They are not the primary factors that NRL club seek for a fullback.

You must love running last every season.
Fullbacks who cannot bust a tackle are the way of the future 🤣
Can someone please let the other 16 NRL coaches know.

[stephen]

how would u develop Bula

Tren, Anavar & massive calorie surplus!!

[king_sirro]

You must not watch our games.

He does all those things at times.

He gave Tino the biggest don't argue he has ever received. Put the top 3 front rower in the game on his ass. Yea but he can't break a tackle.

You must not understand that there are different styles of footballers. There are the James Tedesco, Dylan Edwards types who bustle and hustle their way through, and there are the David Peachey, Will Kennedy, Tyrell Sloane types that finesse their way through.

Once we have established high level halves and Bula learns to inject himself better you will have a star that will do things Tedesco could only dream of

It’s funny how these excuses are not made for the other 16 NRL fullbacks and the 10 or so fill ins who have all made a huge impact for their team, busting plenty of tackles and creating many try scoring opportunities for their respective teams this season.
The fullback is the most influential attacking player in an NRL team, if your fullback offers nothing in attack your team struggles to score points.
Where are we on the points scored list again ?
If fullback play is solely based on metres made stats and ability to catch the high ball, we might as well get Daine Laurie back for 200k per season and save ourselves 500k.

I hate to be that guy that blatantly labels someone's opinion as wrong, but you really leave no choice. Your harsh criticism of Bula without looking at the bigger picture of his journey, the team he is in and blatantly ignoring things he actually has done by saying he can't even do them is stupidity of the highest order.

All things you say he can't do he has shown before our very eyes he can do them. Your being like a school yard bulky picking on a young kid to be a hero.

I've backed you up at times on here Vicious when others have gone in on you, but picking on this kid so often shows both poor judgement and terrible character.

Go pick on the senior guys that are absolutely offering nothing and letting us down 100 times more than Bula is.

I’m not picking on him, I am stating facts.
I’m all for trying him as a centre or winger, but it’s plain and simple we will continue to be a bottom 2 team until we find or develop someone who can consistently ignite our attack from the back.
Many may be happy for us to remain a bottom 2 team, I am not.

Look up the definition of fact, because you absolutely don't know what it means if you think your talking facts
