Jahream Bula #269

Because Fulton said something doesn’t make it true… I doubt anyone is going to publicly take ownership for that decision…I’ll bet he didn’t admit to wanting to pay Schuster $1.2m a year either, which we are led to believe Benji actually prevented …also…who was the final decision maker on how much to pay for Sullivan ? I’m going to say that was ultimately Pascoe as he had the responsibility of the salary cap…
Id say it didn't help his relationship with Benji as soon as he tried to get Schuster over - exactly what we didn't need

So she was pushed because of the salary cap? 🤔

What does 'no cap' mean?

"No cap" means "no lie" or "for real", according to Dictionary.com. "Cap" is another word for lie, so "no cap" emphasizes when someone is being truthful. If someone is "capping," they are lying.

The phrase is rooted in African American Vernacular English (AAVE), or Black speech separate from standard English. As early as the 1900s, "to cap" meant to brag, exaggerate or lie about something, according to Dictionary.com.

Taking this into account, he is saying that it's a lie, total bullshit if you like.

as much as we have had it tough, imagine the ansgt if we had signed Schuster on elite level money....no disrespect to the man himself but clearly NRL doesn't seem to be for him at this point.

Agree Fulton could well have been talking rubbish but that was said before Sullivan proved to not work out here.
He also said Schuster could have been signed for less than he was on at Manly (seems plausible given his mates were leaving Manly and he ended up at Souths for much less) but again who knows how much truth to the statement. Schuster was reportedly on 800K at Manly so not sure why the forum likes to push the 1.2mil narrative. History suggests Benji was most probably right but again who knows? The talent is there.

Like a lot of things with this club ..we’ll never know the full story about Bud …reminds me of what went on this year at Souths regarding Lewis Dodd…. Success has many fathers, but failure is an orphan so they say…

I’ll say that Benji likely ticked off on Bud , but the contract negotiations ( number of years and amount) were probably with Fulton and or Pascoe …i don’t see Benji on the blower haggling with his manager ….there is plenty of blame to go around with such a terrible decision that will probably end up costing them well over seven figures on the cap… and here other people are maximum handwringing over whether to pay Bula an extra $100k for 1 year

Both Marshall and Fulton were at the club when Sullivan was recruited. After Fulton was sacked he said that he wasn't responsible for Sullivan's signing as it was Marshall pushing him to bring him to the club and part of their issues is Marshall had his own ideas about whom he wanted to recruit which didn't fit in with the roster he was trying to build.
I think it's fair to say that Sullivan's recruitment was on Marshall but also Fulton is probably a dumbass if he isn't liaising with the coach about recruiting a roster to fit the coach's vision.
Fulton was also pushing for big dollars for the bloke that dropped out of manly then wasn’t interested at Souths

That's fine i say. So many good fullbacks will be stuck behind first choice fullbacks for 75% of clubs. Spoilt for choices.

To be honest for $900k you expect a Edwards, Tedesco, Turbo, Papenhuzen

Big clubs dont over pay for potential.
If Bula wants to stay then ok, but i think we are wanting to stick with him then we should setup a new contract thats much longer but for less. Maybe a contract where he gets 750k for 2 years and every year after that it goes up by 50k.

The reality is even if the bulldogs have "unlimited" cap space no one is stupid enough to overpay for a player that only a handful of clubs want.

Its a really shitty year to be an off contract FB
Tedesco is elite in the 1.1-1.2m range.

I honestly would take Bula over Paps at this stage of their careers.

Edwards is taking a paycut to win premierships and probably around the 800-900 mark as well.

Turbo is agreeing to a deal between 700-800k because of the times missed.

The point I'm making is that there is no pattern to any of this and it all depends on whether they're in the open market, who they wanna play with, injury risks, club ladder position etc.

For us 800-900k for Bula is worth it. Let's say Turuva as his Fijian teammate is more likely to re-sign when his contract is up.

Luai, Api etc already have a connection with Bula.

It was our stupidity for putting in a mutual option like that where he is essentially on the market Nov 1, 2025 and disguising that he's signed with us till end of 2027.

Get rid of all these options. Bula is certainly not worth 900k but paying him a 100k or so extra is worth the stability and lack of BS that will go around if this drags on until the start of the year.

S Fulton is lucky to have mates in the media
There is a lot of muck buried out at St Marys
if he stayed with us it would have blown up in every bodies faces
Showed how far Pasco n Fiasco were off the pulse of the game

I like Bula but without checking each fullback in the nrl’s stats I think he probably has the least try assists for a fullback in 2025 .

He had 7

In an era when fullbacks play as a 2nd 5/8 that’s really poor .

Scott Drinkwater had 24

Reece Walsh had 26

Connor Tracey is poor & he had 12

Iongi in his rookie year had 12

Ponga only played 13 games & had 9 in a team with the worst attack in the comp .

I doubt any other team is bashing down the door to sign him with those numbers .

That's my thoughts also. Try to negotiate a longer deal at lesser money but if that doesn't eventuate (with money his only sticking point) give hime The 100k extra for 1 year. It won't bust our cap and tell him once his form justifies the extra dollars we can revisit the extension discussions.

Facts are that Tyran Smith actively steers his players away from the Tigers!

We have had and continue to have multiple Cove Agency/Moses players on our books - including Brooks who was here for 10 years with Moses as his agent!

The Moses issue is overstated!
How many what 3 players Phoenix, Sukkar, Bula?”??
