Jahream Bula #269

You been there?
The place is a toilet….a crime ridden toilet.
I’d want $1.2M at a min and a house in a gated community.
And they’re saying that players would have nothing to fear cos they’d be treated like Gods over there. To me, they’d just seem like bigger targets. Very shady that they are offering tax free incentives. Even then, I don’t see what would compel players to want to leave their Sydney and Brisbane lifestyles to live in Port Moresby.

Lucky Bula aint going this week...by the time he does, if he does ...Attard will have another off season or two

Hes not very poor
Did u watch the nsw cup game his defence is pathetic, he has trouble with the high ball , yes he can run with the ball , but he will never get that room in the NRL

Nah, but if I was early 20s without a family, for $1mill a year (tax free) id give it a go. Even if it didn't work out id be $1mill in hand.
Last year my female collegue was working on a deal with one of the big mining companies out of PNG, when it came time for a few of them to go over, the company wouldnt let her.

There is gunna be 100s of Aussies going to PNG to watch their NRL teams play when they come into the comp….i might head over there for a look when the Tigers are over there …probably the NRL will be offering Vegas like deals …
Isn't Feledy playing for Manly now?

I mean we couldn't move them on early. Nor could we move on Bird that easily.

Heck coaches should own their signings. It's always a risk but when you buy a player and it's just a flop, it's on them. (unless ofcourse the board/GM/recruitment overrule them).

Matamua showed potential initially, no idea why he just tanked. But both Matamua and Tumeth were min contracts I understand... Risk on a cheapie is different.

So how do the Dogs manage it with much better players ?

You'd have to pay me 10k plus to go watch a game there

Laundy laundering...

I really hope we extend him. He is very consistent. Looked great lurking around KPP waiting for the offload. His ball playing needs a bit of work but that will come.
How will his ball playing improve, he’s had over 3 years to work on it and it’s still clunky and premeditated.
It stifles our attack, I would prefer him to be a ball hog and run the ball much more often.
If he could not destroy that Eels team yesterday with half of them injured or playing busted and gassed for long periods, then he is simply nowhere near elite and not likely to ever become elite.
An elite fullback would have made multiple line breaks and scored 3 or 4 tries against that Eels team begging for mercy yesterday.

I don't think we take advantage of his skillset. We know he is good under the high ball however Madden became way too predictable kicking to Tino, a nice high kick down the middle from 30 out set up for jahream to run through and contest 1 on 1 with the FB was never attempted. We also rarely went for a grubber kick behind moses to exploit his groin injury by making him turn and chase. We are really missing Luai's variety in attack. We are very one dimensional and made Parra's defense look Panthers grade. The good thing is we still won through grit and determination however we really should have torn them apart and I feel like we would have with Taylan May and Luai out there. Yes Jahream needs to do more, however I don't know if we are playing the type of attack that suits his game at the moment.
AD was a handbrake in attack on the right in the red zone and on the left we had very little variety without Luai, the one chance we created and Luke bombed it, otherwise our left edge looked pedestrian in attack, throw Taylan and Luai in the and both attack and defense significantly improve.

I’m still fine either way. I’m yet to come away from one of our wins thinking “My God, we need to retain this guy at all costs”. He’s been fine, but he’s been in the support cast. Doueihi, Twal, KPP, Sam and Api are the ones leading us.
He's above average. Still needs to work on things but he is safe and always supports. Hope. They resign on him on decent money but not overs.

He is not re-signing with Wests Tigers for anything less than 900k
Is he worth that money ?
Wests Tigers are now at the stage where we have a dominant forward pack, some good quality options in the halves, but lack class within our 1-5.
We are currently in a good forward trajectory, but cannot take the next step and be a genuine premiership threat without an elite fullback who is capable of dominating games and taking advantage when our opponents are tired, battered and bruised.
The more I watch him play the more I’m convinced Bula simply does not have the game to take him to the next level, he will always be a good fast, tall, athletic and safe fullback who backs up well, but does not have the class and x-factor like all the elite fullbacks do.
If we had a dynamic 2-5 with two or three of them that are explosive match winners, we could get away with a more simplistic fullback, but we don’t have that luxury.
It’s no secret that the Cowboys will highly likely need to lose either Purdue or Drinkwater, we should be targeting either one of them if we are serious about going to the next level.

I like Bula but, I agree with you, I can't see 900 k to 1 mil worth of value in him. To me, he doesn't run with enough commitment and physicality, doesn't get involved enough and often throws wayward passes when trying to set up his supports. I also wonder, whether we're seeing his ceiling already which is only worth 600k to be honest. Does he lack confidence?

An elite fullback isnt an elite fullback behind a pack full of plodders.

We finally have a good pack.

Bula can finally do his thing.

"He had 3 years"... not to work on his attack, becsuse we had no attack. He worked on his talk at the back though, and so far so good.

He had plenty of opportunity to be much more dominant yesterday and done very little.
Any reserve grade fullback with a bit of pace could have scored the try and scored, it was nothing special and that type of game will not cause any problems to good defensive teams.
