Jake Simpkin #242

Finally.... the club is finally getting our roster management in order.

While I wish all the best for the young bloke, it's great to see we didn't wait 10 years for him to come good like we did with Luke Brooks.
Hardly a comparable situation.
Brooks wasted 10 years in first grade. Jake has barely played firsts.

Not even close to the same situation.

For the doom & gloomers, again- isn't there a clause in the salary cap where money not spent THIS season can go toward the cap NEXT season?

Could releasing Simpkin simply be a case of creating more cap room for next season?

Yes… who is saying otherwise ?

We're obviously talking subjective opinions here when it comes to "barely", but the bloke has close to 50 games. It's more than long enough to know whether we should keep him or not.

I mean, it was plain to see that Harry Grant was a star after around 10 games.....

Seems to be quite a few people saying the release makes no sense.

Just saying that I think this actually adds dollars to the available cap for next season as a result of the Tigers not spending their whole cap in 2024.

That could be the reason for the release.

ok … some may say that the money they save by letting him leave early ( about $150k ) isnt a significant factor …regardless of it being available next year… it’s just opinions anyway and not going to change anything …

Personally i hope Richo makes another signing for next year soon… squad going backwards over the past week …

Incorrect
- It's well documented that you can't stockpile left over cap money,
Furthermore, You have to spend like 95% of it at a minimum, Each year...

What you can do, Is spear Simpkin - And give someone you're looking to re-sign the money you save for Simpkin this year - To help get them at a lower rate moving forward....

I thought there was a carry-over?

Oh well, so be it.

Why release him? Are we signing someone? Getting something in return? Nope.

He's a good player who I think could have been used more effectively in relief of Api. Now we're shooting our depth in the one position we have it seemingly only to the benefit of another club.

I thought, and still think, it was great letting talau and brooks go to Manly, but this one baffles me. Simpkin isn't a world better but he's a very decent hooker.
Totally agree

Still holding the grudge. Good to see. Never let it go.
"never let it go" Buttface 👊 😀 💯.

There's nothing better than a bit of pretend hate 😡 or a genuine dislike 😏 from Rugba Leeg followers towards other Teams.

I can tell Yuh for sure and certain the Mighty Magpies should have won the 1963 Grand Final.
The try Wests had disallowed Was A Definite try...without any doubt.

I saw it with my own two eyes 🤓, even though I was on the other side of the S.C.G and there were 10,000 umbrellas ☔🏖️☔in front of me 😀.
WESTS were robbed by the ref. 😈 for sure and certain.......I think 🤔.
And I still pretend I Hate St. George to this day.

But...Manly 😡😈...that's another story.

Jake Simpkin was off contract 2025 so releasing him now would only he to free up a roster spot

Still not comparable, Harry was a starter and had done his time in lower grades.
Jake is still doing his time and has had sporadic appearances of first grade...7minutess here, 15minutes there then a month in reggies, then another 9 minutes in top grade...ect, etc. he may have played 40 odd games, but most were cameo appearances only.
