Jake Simpkin #242

I thought he went ok - not sensational as most seem t think.

He needs to stop being a ball hog, learn to be aware of the options at the play the ball,
several times he seemed to take the wrong one. One especially cost us a try.

His defence was average - one cost us a try.

If he keeps working on his deficient areas I'm sure Madge will give him a go towards the
end of the season. Patience is a virtue.

Russ you love Liddle so you always down play Simpkin, his service was better than Liddle has dished up all year

Straight in next week off the bench at Leichhardt against the cowboys. We have a softer draw coming up after the Eels game.

Watching him today I was very disappointed, his strength is normally his defence but he seems a bit off the pace, even his decisions to run from dummy half off a slow play were out of character, his time will come but he needs to build his craft without outside noise.

Agree with this. I was out there. A little bit predictable. Like many others in his side barring maybe BJ, he needs more time.

I think you are the other way around 851.

Liddle is a much better DH than Simpkin NOW, whether it continues or for how long I don't know.

Simpkin has lots to work on - especially taking the right option at the PTB. Yesterday he took the wrong option on several occasions, one of those cost us a certain try. He also needs to work on his defence (it is not good enough to just have legs like tree trunks), pretty pathetic attempt to stop that guy scoring the try at the post.

At this stage, still loves hanging onto the ball and trying to win the game himself.

Quite a lot of posters here want to put him into the NRL side this week. Personally disagree. He is not ready (still too young in my opinion for a few reasons). Still has a lot to learn, I'm a believer that his body at 19 is still not ready, it should not be forgotten that we want to win games and the last reason imo is that he has a better DH in front of him.

What is the rush - has big wraps, I didn't see he was anywhere near close to NRL yesterday. Take that as you will 851, if you think I am not being objective, unfortunately I can't do much about that.

No need to bring him in and break up more combinations.

There is not much between him and Liddle at this stage.

This team needs some spark ..Jacob played ok today but with Mbye at 9 it just makes things worse ... Good game to blood him next week on the bench for mine .

Mbye when he came on the team had spark and scored points...so I dont see how he makes things worse...once again Moses isnt a specialist hooker, but is the best we have to give Liddle a break....Simpkin isnt near ready yet and Madge knows it,thats why he is in reggies to build his game and body for the rigours of fg...
Madge in the presser gave Mbye a big wrap and said he did well for the TEAM when he came on....

?% in agreement with your assessment.

Jake Simpkin fronts the media and discusses the teams performance.

Jake Simpkin’s stats from yesterday’s win:
80 minutes
1 try
16 runs for 110 metres
2 line breaks
36 tackles and 2 missed

Good young player Simpkin. He will carve up when given the opportunity. Mbye moving on hopefully this year will give him his opportunity off the bench. Inevitable he will out play liddle in my view. We need two hookers in today’s game.

Played ok, gets out of dummyhalf well and not afraid of contact in the middle. I think we would be served well by using him off the bench in FG to give Liddle a spell. He's a lot sharper off the ground with his passing and footwork than Mbye.

I think Madge needs to take a gamble - i thought Mbye went ok in the middle - i would like to see him start at 13, Twal back to starting prop musgrove to the bench and Simpkin at 14 - Mikaele back to reggies.

Agree
Mmbye was good yesterday and Liddle and simokin sharing hooker would work well
Twal is a front rower and he can replace Mikaele in the rotation.

Its the first time I have watched him closely in a full game.

He had a great game, but is not ready for firsts. He is a kid, he would get monstered and pounded in the top grade.

Having said that, i think the coach is very wise holding him back for the first four rounds at least. if I was going to throw him in, it would be again st some of the weaker teams of course.

For those who think throwing him in will change anything, I think you are jumping the gun. Whatever attack he has after the big boys run at him all day and smash him into the ground will be negated by the fact that we dont have anyone to take advantage of it. So what's the point? Let him learn his trade in the lower grades.

Same goes for Cini, the halfback, and any of the the others. They are not top grade ready. I saw one big forward that took them on and that was it. And his motor wasn't very big. Out of puff after two runs. With a bit of work though.....

Hope the kid gets an opportunity to prove himself this week. Leading try-scorer and top-tackler in NSW cup.

Get him in now.

I dont care if he hogs the ball and runs an additional 10 - 20 meters for a quick scoop out of DH and hogs it.. I believe he'll give a quick PTB and then someone else swoops in and does the same.

All I see is the slow PTB's from people... get over it and play quick..

Great summation champion @Swordy - a bit of promise with some, but none ready yet for the top grade.
I still want Allan Fitzgibbon to come on, but he is still very raw, though he is energetic - even in his mistakes!

Allan's showboating swan dive for his try bothered me on Sunday. Great try but no need for that level of arrogance especially playing reggies. His landing seemed rather awkward too and lucky he didn't injure himself.

Not very “west’s tigers” but I like his confidence. No way I would trust him in first grade until he get the errors out of his game but he looks as big and athletic as Ferguson, we don’t have anyone with that potential that I can see for the vacant wing spot

If you look at his highlights... that’s just something he does and I don’t have a problem with it.

I think you will see him in the 9 jersey Saturday

I thought we in the business of winning football games perhaps we would of won if coach picked him last dark Sunday.
