Its the first time I have watched him closely in a full game.

He had a great game, but is not ready for firsts. He is a kid, he would get monstered and pounded in the top grade.

Having said that, i think the coach is very wise holding him back for the first four rounds at least. if I was going to throw him in, it would be again st some of the weaker teams of course.

For those who think throwing him in will change anything, I think you are jumping the gun. Whatever attack he has after the big boys run at him all day and smash him into the ground will be negated by the fact that we dont have anyone to take advantage of it. So what's the point? Let him learn his trade in the lower grades.

Same goes for Cini, the halfback, and any of the the others. They are not top grade ready. I saw one big forward that took them on and that was it. And his motor wasn't very big. Out of puff after two runs. With a bit of work though.....

I think you will see him in the 9 jersey Saturday

I hope so, this kid is the future long term 9 of this club

Great summation champion @Swordy - a bit of promise with some, but none ready yet for the top grade.
I still want Allan Fitzgibbon to come on, but he is still very raw, though he is energetic - even in his mistakes!

Allan's showboating swan dive for his try bothered me on Sunday. Great try but no need for that level of arrogance especially playing reggies. His landing seemed rather awkward too and lucky he didn't injure himself.

If you look at his highlights... that’s just something he does and I don’t have a problem with it.

I don't have a problem with being over confident and backing your ability however carrying on like he did makes you look real stupid if on the next play you drop a clean ball or jam in when defending and offering the attacker and easy run to the line. Not at all saying he did either however there's varying degrees of confidence and arrogance and I feel on this occasion he took it too far.

If you were to ask any first grade coach if that sort of showboating impresses them I will put money on it that none say yes.

Not very “west’s tigers” but I like his confidence. No way I would trust him in first grade until he get the errors out of his game but he looks as big and athletic as Ferguson, we don’t have anyone with that potential that I can see for the vacant wing spot

It was said he needed to be disciplined a few times during pre season

Maybe that show boating is part of the parcel? Anyways I hope he comes good, he is so damn fast and that’s just unusual to say for a WT player

Just watched the highlights. I saw him beaten twice on the outside for tries. The last of which was a diabolical attempt given the attacking player had zero space against the sideline.

Not saying Simpkin doesnt deserve to be in the mix, but if you are blaming Liddle as to why we have been so **** this year, this is beyond me to comprehend. The only player punted is Liddle? Please.

A number of biased comments in this thread from pro-Liddle fans.

Jake has been the standout player of the comp in NSW Cup. Leader in tries, breaks, tackles. A far more complete game than Liddle, although Lidz being older has a bit more bulk on him, but only slightly.

Anyone that doesn't see the similarities between the likes of Simpkin and Grant are kidding themselves. Bit surprised to see him start but i;m sure he'll do well

Jake is in. Liddle dropped

About time.

Russells computer screen is broken

I fear Madge's legs might be broken after Russ sees the team list.

Inside centre doesn't exist in league.

But Kepaoa has played most of his footy at centre over the years

He’s the 19-year-old dummy-half who has been lighting it up in the Knock-On Effect NSW Cup this season, and now he gets his chance in the top grade after being selected by Coach Michael Maguire to make his NRL debut.

Promoted from the development squad to the Top 30 this season, the young gun hooker is still eligible to play in the Jersey Flegg competition for a couple of seasons, but his early career success has seen him rocket into the NRL team.

A highly rated junior representative hooker, Simpkin has already tasted success in his short career, having helped Wynnum-Manly reach the Grand Final in the Hastings Deering Colts competition in 2019.

He has also represented Queensland throughout the junior grades and featured in junior triumphs for the Maroons.

His career was put on hold last season with COVID-19 causing the reserve grade competition to be cancelled — meaning Simpkin played just one game in over 12 months — but that hasn’t stopped him from excelling in season 2021.

He has been the standout player for Western Suburbs Magpies in reserve grade so far this year, scoring six tries in five games — to sit atop the try-scoring chart.

He also leads the competition in linebreaks (seven), dummy-half runs (31), tackles (213) and total touches (460).

Now he gets his shot in the big time for Wests Tigers in Round 6 after being named to start against the Rabbitohs — and he can’t wait to get out there.

“I’ve always dreamt of playing in the NRL [and] I'd take the opportunity with both hands,” the Southern Suburbs junior said earlier in the pre-season.

“I played all the representative sides when I was growing up so I sort of know what it’s like to play in big games but the NRL is a much bigger step.

While focused on making an impact on field, the talented young rake is also applying his trade off it with his time in the books as he studies sports exercise science.

“I’ve been studying for a while now part-time," he said.

"I've been doing it when I'm not at training and it's enjoyable.

"It's been good to get my mind away from footy [and] I think it's pretty important to have something else to focus on."
Match: Rabbitohs v Wests Tigers

Im not suggesting Jake S doesnt deserve consideration, but are you suggesting Liddle deserved to be the only player dropped?

He is the only underperforming player with a ready made replacement ready to go.
