No sure if anyone heard Moses on the rush hour but when asked about idris he said

'I'm stoked we're bringing Jamal to the club. He's a quality player and big body. Even better he'll be defending next to me!'

Lock him in for right center

I hope his defence has improved then, he was like a wooden post against anyone with good footwork.
Maybe he'l be ok in attack, and his size could help,
But it's been a long time, and unless his lazy attitude has had a miraculous u turn,
We may be glad that it was a 1 year signing.
It would be different if he had a record of putting everything into his game, but so far he hasn't wanted to make the effort that a first grader needs to, let alone to do it on a regular
Basis.
Hope he has had enough navel gazing amd wants to play

The length of the contract and no doubt his salary would reflect the perceived risks. People change and mature. I think it's fair to give the bloke a chance to show this. We all know he has football in him.

We need a big body in the centres. Here's hoping he has the fitness to start in round one.

By the sound of it Mitchell Moses is hoping the same.

Well he has a whole off season to get fit. So definitly if injury free he will be ready to go. The only thing though, has Idris signing been confirmed??

I think this makes it official!

Woods backs Benji move
Tigers
Jason Taylor on replacing Robbie Farah and the future of Mitch Moses and James Tedesco

JASON Taylor says he never contemplated quitting. Not once over the past two seasons.

“I just love the game so much,” the Wests Tigers coach told The Saturday Telegraph.

“I understand that there are parts to it that you might not love.

“But I never want to walk away from the game because of the passion I have for it.

“It is just a matter of getting on with it.”

Which is exactly what Taylor is now planning to do ahead of preseason training, which kicks off on November 3.

In his first interview since Robbie Farah’s departure, Taylor opened up about:

* His plans to give even greater power to young guns Mitchell Moses, Luke Brooks and James Tedesco;

* Jamal Idris’s comeback, and the conversation that has Taylor convinced the wayward star is ready to make amends;

* How he will use veteran Matt Ballin to help usher in rising star Jacob Liddle at hooker; and

* Taylor’s own future at the club.

THE BIG THREE

With Farah gone, the last thing the Tigers need is more speculation about the futures of Tedesco, Moses and Brooks.

But come November 1, the gloves come off.

That is when rival clubs will be allowed to start negotiating with the Tigers’ star trio.

“I think it is important that it is not the headline for every second story around our club for however long it takes to finalise that,” Taylor said.

“The most important thing is that we all understand that it will be going on behind the scenes.

“And as a club we will let people know when there are developments. Otherwise we just need to get on with our preseason.”
\
\
Can the Tigers keep their stars?
Taylor said all the players had gained great confidence from the way they finished this season.

“The biggest mistake we could make is just to assume that the fact we played well in the back half of the season and got ourselves in contention, that is just going to continue,” Taylor said.

“We have to make sure that we take another step.”

While he doesn’t want to take away the flair and natural exuberance, the job for Moses, Brooks and Tedesco is to show greater game management from their 50-plus games of NRL experience.

“It is that mindset that has changed for us which is great,” Taylor explained.

“And it means that we will go into every game next year confident that we can win it.

“Not just on the back of because we can do some freaky things.

“But on the back of we can play with more control and hopefully make better decisions when those opportunities come along.

“We don’t want to coach that out of them at all.

“We want to continue to build on that skill and ability.

“It is just about the decision making around it.”

JAMAL’S RETURN
\
\
After debuting at Canterbury in 2008 and representing NSW and Australia before his 21st birthday, Idris is now at his fourth NRL club.

And at 26, he arrives at the Tigers on his last chance.

Still to fully recover from a knee injury and not yet officially signed, Taylor revealed Idris had already started training.

“He is really committed,” Taylor said.
\
\
Jamal Idris will try to make a comeback with the Tigers.
“He took a break and travelled around the world and got completely away from rugby league and the pressures of it.

“Now he is coming back on his terms because he wants to play rugby league.

“And the big thing about Jamal is that he believes that there is so much more to do.

”We had one really good conversation in particular, just talking about what he wants to do with his career between now and the end of it.

“A lot of things came really easily to him in the first part of it.

“Now he has taken a break and appreciates the opportunity he has got. We are really hopeful we can tap into that.”

WHO WEARS NO. 9?

With Dene Halatua retired and Farah at Souths, the prized No. 9 jumper is up for grabs.

After coming across from Manly last year, 32-year-old Ballin had to undergo a full knee reconstruction, while 20-year-old Liddle only played one NRL game off the bench but is regarded as an exceptional talent.

“There is excitement around Jacob but I don’t want to overstate that because he has only had the one first grade game,” Taylor said.

“There is still a few questions for Jacob to answer.
\
\
Matt Ballin will start the season at hooker.
“He trained the full preseason with us last year and he handled that well so getting another pre season under his belt will be massive for him.

“Matt Ballin obviously had a big setback last year but there is still extreme confidence that he is going to be right to start the season.

“He had a really big influence on the group even though he hardly played a game.

“The plan will be for Matt Ballin to start the season and Jacob to be coming off the bench. But we have also signed Matt McIlwrick who has played a lot of first grade.

“We are really comfortable with that position.”

TAYLOR’S FUTURE

After what he’s been through over the past two seasons, surely Taylor would be nervous.

If the Tigers don’t start well next year, you can bet the knives will come out. Again.

But right now, he says his only priority is to make sure the preseason starts well.

For that to happen, he needs to focus on now, not the future.

“Obviously I have another year to run and I am comfortable with that,” Taylor said.

“There is no doubt that the team is in better shape than it has been for a number of years in regards to the quality of players across the positions, the depth and then the biggest thing is experience.”

didnt even read the preceding posts, but i have to say, when i heard Idris was looking for an NRL return, my first thought was "how awesome would it be if the tigers were one of the teams in the hunt?".
turned out they were. turned out they got him.

i reckon he is exactly what the tiges need. a big solid centre who given the motivation (umm, can wayne bennett please come to the tiges?!) would be an absolute force.

hes exactly what the tigers need. naqaima is a winger in my opinion. man, how many times i watched games last couple of seasons and yelled at him for coming in too far!!!

We seem to take risks on players with huge upside on short term deals. If they come good they sign with the Storm.

Yep, bad decisions have been made over our last 3 or 4 years, was hoping this year would be different, the Idris signing is one good decision at least.

I am thinking Idris could be a bigger version of Konrad Hurrel for us. Konrad was booming for the Titans in the last half of the season.

Let's hope Idris can be the unstoppable force in th NRL.

Imagine a bloke that size running at you. he is a guy that would terrorise a defensive line.

When Mitch is through that line there will always be one man running up beside him, Tedesco. Once Tedesco gets the ball in open field it is try time

Jamal Idris joins Wests Tigers

Wests Tigers are pleased to announce that former Australian international and New South Wales representative Jamal Idris has joined the Club.

The 26-year-old has played a total of 131 first-grade games since making his debut for Canterbury-Bankstown in 2008 — playing four seasons for the Bulldogs before spending two years with the Titans from 2012 and with the Panthers from 2014.

The 2009 Dally M Rookie of the Year has agreed to join Wests Tigers in 2017 and will add plenty of experience, size and skill to the Club’s first-grade squad.

After spending 18 months away from rugby league, the Forster Hawks junior said he was excited to be making his return to the NRL with Wests Tigers.

“For me, it’s so exciting as there are a lot of up-and-coming young players here,” said Idris. “The average age is really young, and they’re only going to get better and more experienced. If they do that together, then they’re going to gel well as a team and that’s really exciting.

“I’ve learned a lot over the last year, and the biggest thing was that I was playing rugby league for others. This time, I’m playing rugby league for myself,” he said.

“There’s no better way to get back into it then to get stuck into training, and I’m improving a lot every week. I’m just hoping to do it now week in and week out.

“I can’t wait to meet all the new fans and Members of Wests Tigers,” said Idris. “This Club has a great history and supporter base, and I can’t wait to meet and get to know so many more fans.”

Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe said that the signing of Idris was an exciting one for all Members and fans following on from a strong 2016 season.

“As a Club, we are really pleased to have Jamal at Wests Tigers next year,” Pascoe said.

“We’re thrilled that he’s decided to embark on the next stage of his playing career with us.

“We all know what he can do on the field and we look forward to seeing him do it in a Wests Tigers jersey next season,” he said. “Jamal’s been a fan favourite everywhere that he’s played and I’m sure that Wests Tigers Members and fans are excited to have him with us.

“We had a lot of positive signs both on and off the field in 2016 and Jamal’s signing is another step in the right direction for this organisation,” said Pascoe.

Wests Tigers Head Coach Jason Taylor said that having a player of Idris’ experience and natural ability would be a great addition to the Club’s first-grade squad in 2017.

“We’re really looking forward to having Jamal join us ahead of the 2017 season,” said Taylor.

“He brings a lot of size and strength to our outside backs which is something that we identified that needed to be improved on for the coming year.

“Jamal has played the game at the highest level and comes to Wests Tigers with a lot to prove,” he said. “He's been working hard over the last couple of weeks to ensure that he’s ready for the start of pre-season and he’s incredibly motivated to get back into the game and we’re really happy that he’s decided to do it with us.”
