James Tamou - missing in action

So few minutes in a devastating 1st half.
No return to the field in the 2nd half.
No appearance at the post match press conference, as captain.
No explanation at all by Madge.
What's the story.

Captain's don't go to post match press conferences any more and they screwed up the subs in the second half.

No it hasn’t. He is a leader. Even from the sidelines in the second half on Sunday he was actively motivating the team.

i said this in another post, a mate who has pretty good intel said Madge and Tamoa had a blow up in the shed at half time due to the game plan being all wrong, hence why he wasnt brought back on in the second half.

Maybe Madge told him he wouldn't go back on and then Tamou got upset. As I said, Madge kept both Garner and Mikaele back quite some period and finished the game with them, also he had to use a permanent sub for BJ, which meant I don't think Liddle got a break.

I saw Tamou on the sidelines shouting at the players at the start of the second half, then I stopped paying any attention to the sidelines.

Why is that? Didn’t BJ or Mbye swap as an HIA interchange?

I have never rated Tamou, and I dont know what anyone sees in him. But I certainly admit that when we signed him, I thought he might be the leader that we needed.

Now leaders aren't always those leading by example in the tackle and run stakes. Some of the best leaders stand back and encourage, direct, and spray when necessary. Cooper Cronk in the GF a few years back didnt do a single thing physically, but he steered everything like a coach on the field in the Under 6's.

I was hoping Tamou was going to be that person.

People can carry on about all these young blokes, Blore this, Musgrove that, Twal this, Stefano did that, this dudes a beast blah blah blah.

Not a single player in that team holds anyone else to account. Not one. As a consequence, 17 blokes are out there going in their own direction and doing their own thing. If Madge's game plan is crap, we follow it to the letter, that way he is accountable. We cant just go around doing our own thing. Each player tries as much as he wants to and thats all, nothing more. I dont think I have ever seen a team of players, from any team, that look like they are all wearing Stevie Wonder glasses and have no clue if someone is there right next to them, or 20 metres away.

Someone on this forum mentioned something about we only had 13 missed tackles on the weekend. Probably fact, but you cant have a missed tackle if there is a 10m gap between players who are not even close enough to touch the opposition as they walk briskly through the line. No one is gang tackling and bending backs and grinding their face in the dirt. No one. Its a game of OzTag and we stand there looking.....at something shiny outside the fence.

This team is full of complete wankers, to a man, that think they are not accountable.

I would not pay a single player in this current team. Even Daine Laurie who has shown glimpses of special, doesnt blow up and get angry like his life depends on it. He just hangs his head.

No one is showing leadership for players like Laurie to get a hold of. This is why, rightly or wrongly I suggested Josh McGuire in a recent post. That wont happen of course, but at least he blows up deluxe when things are going crap.

At the moment, no one is showing any passion.

Spot on

I'll be watching him very closely this time round.

Line speed should be the big word on the whiteboard this week. Especially, close to our line, let's see if Simpkin and Laurie get isolated. It would be a big failure on the part of the middle forwards if they do.

I think Tamou is a good signing at his salary. Expecting the output of a top prop for his coin would be asking a fair bit. I think he's there to show guys like Uto, Musgrove, Blore etc. what level of preparation is required to be a champion and how to carry yourself moreso than anything.

I am not sure I'd have made him captain tho. I think our captain should be Douehi and have thought as much since mid last year. This really looks like Adam Douehi's team to me.

There are definitely a lot of blokes this applies to but I think Adam Douehi is definitely not one. I also have seen Brooks blow up deluxe quite a lot. Noffa also to a degree.

I thought his first half was excellent. The misread in the defensive line to concede the second half try was horrible. Really wish it wasn't the captain missing those reads. I think for him to be valuable in the team he has to be better than that. If he's not doing the basic stuff right and he's not a game changing forward then what is his value? Feel Twal is currently a better version of him.

I thought he was key in our increased line speed tonight.

Agreed - being at the game live you get a different appreciation - he was not our worst forward tonight and had good defensive line speed.

The team as whole plays too flat in attack which needs to change - it just doesn't suit us.

Tamou has asked for this message to be posted on behalf of himself and the squad.

Line speed is more than just one person. There were points where he led the line speed, but they still struggle to do it as a team.

They're far up the ladder so no comparison but Melb disinintegrates their line speed a little. They figure out who's going to get the ball and form a mini C around them.

Obviously Tamou can't do all on his own but his marker defence and second efforts are still pretty bad. He still gets a quick PTB with landing on his knees but isn't doing the tough hard carries that are required of any prop.

We are only 6 games into the season but he hasn't impressed me too much yet on the field. Hope he can change my mind soon!
