James Tedesco’s dad slams NRL for not doing enough to protect its star players

Careless or he was falling into the tackle, don't care Ryan James needs to pay longer than one week and to think his contesting it. Absolute Bollox.

What about 1st half when he tried to take out Moses in mid air?

Loosing quashed any hope of semi final footy IMO. Tedesco brings that X-factor and the week to week consistency that he brings.

I agree with others that, whether accidental or intentional, a strike to the head should bring a severe penalty. Rugby and AFL have it right and the NRL needs to catch up. Also, taking the father factor out, which makes him look biased, John Tedesco is exactly right when he states that our star players should be protected from deliberate foul play. It''s the star players who entertain and bring more fans to the game, not the tradesmen such as James.

All players need to be protected, not just the stars. It might of been the emotion, but it was very arrogant of him to imply his son was worth more to the game than Ryan James.

well, that was a stupid thing to say.

but i agree, stay away from the head, at all times. the rest of the body is 1.5m

As I said before, accidental or intentional, the bottom line is the onus is on the defender not to make contact with the head. Its pretty simple really and the NRL has to protect its players, a week ban will not change the way James plays the game,a season ending ban would make him think twice

Players are getting hit in the head in every game , every week .
Admittedly, the injury this week to Teddy is a high price to pay , and should have a bigger punishment( nomatter who it was that got hit.)
We need a tougher penalty for Any contact with the head at all. James tackle didn't seem any worse than most of the others that we see all the time. , the result wasn't good though.
I agree , it's simple, if Jim Comans (years ago) could eradicate head shots, there's no reason that the NRL can't do the same now. I don't care how long they sit on the sideline,
The NRL are too scared of teams being a player down to get Serious about it.
One of our own players, can't remember which one now, earlier in the year should have had been sent off for the same thing , , it's not just one team, it's right through the NRL.
The same thing applies to spear tackles like Parkers earlier this year, they're send off offences. This accidental and careless crap is a load of codswallop.
It's up to the tackler to make sure he goes nowhere the head.
And that includes the choke hold around the neck which is getting common in the tackles these days

John will need to get used to seeing his son targeted most weeks… Every opposition Forward Pack will be looking to knock him out of the game his whole career.

Been happening for years to 6's & 7's... Now its the Fullbacks turn to enjoy the fun.

Well that makes it OK then… :unamused:

John is 100% correct....The NRL need to act rather than react...Or will it take someting more serious than a broken Jaw...?

yep… They should dress them all in pink panties each week too

Look I know you're stuck in the late 70's early 80's…so you will probably remember Jim Comans and the lengths he went to in stamping out thuggery from the Game...Long suspensions soon got the message across...

I'm not saying there is a need to go to that extreme either here...The whole grading system for charges needs to be revamped especially when contact to the head is involved....something like 5 weeks minimum ..

Not also saying to wrap the fullbacks/wingers catching ball in cotton wool either...I cheered very loudly the other day when Nofoaluma smashed Coote into next week...It was a great shot..totally legal ...the issue is get it wrong and contact the head..you do the time...

The NRL's in action on this issue will just end up with more open slather on un protected players catching the ball......

P.S.. As for your panties comment..I'll get the jillaroos to invite you down as their tackle bag...

If that is your thing seeing men run around in pink panties, well so be it but something needs to happen.
They've tried to protect the kicker now they need to do something about protecting the person receiving the kick.

Oh, and good luck with the pink panty thing !

The NRL did get tough on head contact over the last couple of years too, but this season it seems to have disappeared.

Yes, Tedesco was down low, but that in no way excuses the clenched fist and swinging arm brought into the tackle.

Corey Parker said exactly this when asked about it. And as much as I dislike quoting him he is absolutely right - and this from a player, not a commentator, journo, father or forumer!

A season ending ban wont have any effect in the way James thinks. He was doing his job and obviously succeeded in the eyes of his employers.

The only time James is going to adjust how hard he attempts to play, is when he gets the tap on the shoulder from his Coach to tone it down.

Cant see that happening any time soon.

I am afraid we are now living in 2016,the NRL has put rules and regulations in place to protect them from potential legal problems in regards to head knocks and concussion. So I say they are taking a massive risk by having such weak rules in place that basically condone a so called head knock if it is deemed accidental. Any hit to the head must be a no tolerance zone with a minimum penalty.

There are 100'a of mothers out there who after seeing the footage of the incident would now be thinking league is not the game for their kids.

Once again I stress if the rule makers come out and send a clear message that the head is out of bounds and back it up with strong penalties the players will soon get the message. In Rugby there is no such thing as accidental contact to the head and I think AFL also are the same.

I come from a era where coat hangers and stiff arms were common place in every game and have seen the damage caused by them that is still haunting players long after they retired. The NRL has to move with the times

Finally a sensible post.
Thank you Supercoach

Well done John for sticking up for your son and having the balls to say something pity someone from the club didn't think to do the same

Why does him speaking him for his son take balls?

I reckon Teddy should start wearing headgear. If it saves only 1 concussion a year it will be worth it in terms of the extra time he spends on the field. If it's good enough for JT, it's good enough for JT!

Simona .. 3 weeks for next to nothing. Say no more as we all know where our club stands in comparison to others :frowning: . Just wait and see what Josh Hodgson gets for his intentional neck twist/hold to understand how we always get screwed.

what a post :master:

agree with everything you said.

>NRL ban shoulder charge in an attempt to protect players from receiving contact at the head.
>Allow thugs to go around smashing whoever they like, only punishing them with one or two weeks.
