James Tedesco Signs with Roosters [Official]

I think Teddy knows first hand how loyalty from fans can turn in the blink of an eye.
Teddy seems like a great bloke but in the end his decision should be based soley on what's best for him and the club needs to address how they can be best option for him.

Why are people talking about 5 yr deals? The deal in question is for four yrs, which is a standard length for a player like Tedesco. He's this era's Benji Marshall.

That's right 4yrs. He is our best player. To keep him we will need to offer him security, other clubs will and he certainly deserves it. The last thing we need is to lose a local junior with amazing talent to another club because of our inability to offer a reasonable contract. 4yrs for Teddy at the rates talked about is reasonable considering his talent and the supposedly big rises coming up in the salary cap from 2018 onwards.get Teddy locked in than lock up our halves.

Best Wests Tiger player I have ever seen-period! We must do whatever is necessary to keep Teddy in WT colours for the rest of his career. If we have to pay big money to do it-as we surely will-then so be it. He is that important!

I get the risks involved, but it's what you need to do with marquee players. You don't see Thurston and Cronk only getting only 2 yr extensions. The greats get 4 yrs. I think it's a good idea to break up contracts so not everyone is coming off at the same time, but Tedesco needs the long one. Give Moses and Brooks 2 and 3 yrs respectively.

The only way we can ever be a force is through raising juniors and promoting loyalty, family and freindships over money.

Pascoe realises this and I think it's why he calmed down the RFarah situation.

I must be missing something - didn't we do that with Farah?
As soon as fans think they know what a player is earning and a few bad games the knives are out and usually does nothing for your career.
I am all for trying to secure Teddy - but would not be surprised abit if Teddy said thanks but no thanks for any long term deal offered by us.

It is different signing a 29 year old to a 4 year heavily backloaded deal who will be 33 at it's end than a 23 year old who will be in his prime with a contract that will evenly spread through this time…

15 other Clubs won't hesitate in offering Tedesco 3-4 years post 2017...

It ends 5 years from now (well 5 and half)

Im comfortable with it, it can work both ways, at the end of the contract, that money maybe considered great value for a player of his standard.

I find it interesting that people are happy signing him to 2020, but not 2021\. It not a great deal of difference as I see it.

The market will set the price and the term, so we're at the whim of others to a degree. I'm confident he'll stay, but it'll be big money and at least four years I imagine.

Tedesco could become Wests Tigers greatest player.

I agree. We have to sign him up. He should be paid as well relative to what we pay Woods for instance. If Woods has to lose money and he goes so be it.

It has to be a moneyball approach but Tedesco is worth big dollars in a moneyball approach.

I don't think you know what the term 'moneyball' means.

Exactly, the market place will set the price and the length of the contract, okay if he is happy playing with his mate we might be able to offer a little less, but I am sure we would have to offset this with other conditions in the contract. Bottom line is, what ever we pay him and what ever the length of the contract is will be worth it. To have the best no1 in the game, who just happens to be a outstanding young kid is something you do not give away without a big fight

Teddy is the type of player you build a club around i have no problems with a 4 yr extension on his current deal, sometimes you have to take risks to secure talents such as his.

^^^^^^^^^^^^ x 2

Yes it's a risk but how often does a player like Tedesco come along? The bloke is in the top few fullbacks in the comp, if not the best and he is only 23 years of age.

It's a risk worth taking. The cap is $7.1 million in 2017 and 2018 on it will be going through the roof probably well in excess of $10 million.

When you look at what is being said he is being offered, yes it's is a substantial amount. It is being reported $1 million a year. More then likely $750,000 or so will be in the cap with $250,000 in a third party give or take.

In the scheme of things it isnt huge money. I believe he is worth every cent.

Imagine a mature spine of Teddy, Moses, Brooks and Liddle in about 2 years time… Players from other teams will be busting a nut to play alongside this spine!!!..add the New Centre of Excellence and we be such a different team/place than we are today... Just imagine ...I can see it hope others can too... Keep Teddy at all costs..$$$$

You are correct players like him dont happen too often and to have him with us is something we should do our utmost to keep.If you arent prepared to accept the risk that he could get injured why bother to get players?I would hate to see him play against us we need to have a quality roster and he certainly is quality.I have no doubt he will be a bargaining chip in getting decent players to the club.We need him to be here for the long term.

I hope it doesn't come down to that guy Farah having to keep him again.

Nasty piece of work that Robbie.

Like people have said 3-4 years would be ideal. However if we had to take 5 instead of 1 well with a player of Teddys ability you could live with it.

Problem is if he does another knee. However he has come back just as fast from the previous 2 injuries so thats a good sign.

I listened to James on the radio this morning. Not only does he play well but he speaks well and seems to be a most humble person.
He has the potential to be the best Wests Tigers player ever and we need to do whatever it takes to keep him. Players will want to come to this club to play alongside him.

The only problem I see is his manager Ayoub. How such a well mannered and decent person could associate himself with such garbage like Ayoub I dont understand.
On second thoughts James has probably matured a fair bit since the last contract and hopefully he wont be swayed by Ayoub's agenda against Wests Tigers.
